- Hello everyone!!! Zuoya recently came out with their new keyboards (GMK87 & GMK81). I wanted the GMK87 because it comes with a knob and I really prefer ones with them these days. With the Akko V3 Silver Pros, this keyboard build sounds pretty good & at a decent price too... What do you think about this keyboard? Comment your thoughts in the comments 😁

Amazing sounds ! I’ll try to repeat everything I saw on your video ! Bought everything .
I found my favorite keyboard channel :)
Really like how you show everything
Thank you!!! 😊
Thank you for showing how easy it is to open that thing :) Was afraid I would break something and got bit scared after seeing other ppl struggling with it 👍
the first video I have seen on any of the GMK boards that hasn't freaked about how to open it and you're definitely the first to say it's simple (because it is)
I have a gmk67 as my first custom keyboard and it was pretty easy to open so don’t know what people complain about. But if you have had a easier experience with better keyboards I get why it can be hard in comparison
Thanks for showing everything! Will be building my first keeb too soon 😎
👍👍👍
I just got mine and I felt dumb because I thought my switches wouldn't fit as I couldn't see any holes for the pins (I'm new at this lol). I'm so glad I found this video, honestly.
awesome sound! i just got mine and it is sound SO GOOD, this keyboard is a killer.
Thank you!!!
Solid video! Although I think I missed the part where you actually express an opinion on the board (likes, dislikes, comparison to other models you've tried).
A bit of unsolicited feedback: It's hard to determine the effect of your mods if you don't provide a "before" sound test. You should also provide a reference sound (such as a mouse click or a common phone notification sound) to allow us as viewers to compare the volume level of the keys with your ambient sound in relation to your mic. All I've learned from your video is what's involved in modding it and what it sounds modded. Keep at it!
If it was a pre-built I would understand the need for a before and after sound test but this is a barebone kit that you build yourself. The stabs are dry from factory on this one so why do a sound test of dry stabs? As for likes and dislikes, this isn't a review so there isn't really a need for an opinion. It's just a build video meant to show the building aspect/"modding".
I love it❤
I fell in love with the sound of your keyboard
Awesome 😂😂
I'll do the same mods but with the Gateron Milky Yellow Pro and Rome Keycaps. Thx for the video, I was wondering if I would need to take the Foam that goes under the PCB but I saw that you kept it =)
I saw these gmk boards when they were $55. Now they raised the price to like $70 now, I should've bought :/
Update: They went back on sale and I bought one. Building it rn but the whole switch and stab lubing process is tiring but its a new experience :D
I ordered a gmk81 on aliexpress yesterday for around 46 euroes. They are still cheap with some sellers :)
I just ordered gmk87 like a couple days ago for something like 37$ or smth I just look around for some cheap seller with pretty good rating especially with the summer sale recently
If only it was aluminum and had underglow or side light 😢
I have one of these coming in the next few week - ive never actually opened a keyboard up before, but ive heard a few mentions of supporting the PCB from behind when putting switches in, so will have to open it up so as not to risk it.
As its my first time, i probably wont be doing any mods - installing outemu silent tactile toms in it with some purple magical cat cherry profile keycaps as this is a build to replace my partners dead membrane keyboard.
Yeah no need to worry with opening it up, I've never had any problems like that with the gmk87 or gmk67.
supporting the back is definitely needed if you open it but if you don't it should just clip right in you can test one switch to make sure it works before installing the rest! If you really want to open it just unhook the keyboard from the bottom and then use a card to slide through the gaps to unhook the other latches.
@@anitaatechhi, how do you disconnect the cable from the mini screen connecting the pcb? I do not want to force it out since it is quite tight.
Theres 2 black connectors(? Not sure what they’re called) on both sides of the cable you have to unhook by pulling it out a little (they don’t come out). They act like locks when they’re pushed in and unlocks when you pull them out. The cable should come out then. Try pulling it straight, do not bend it, maybe use anti static tweezers! Putting it back is just the same but reverse, make sure to push the cable all the way in before locking it. Good luck! Work slower on this part as it’s easily damaged (I broke my Nintendo switch controllers trying to repair them my first time)
@@anitaatechworks like a charm! Very good information! I almost forced it out since I had watched another video that the YTer just pulled it out without showing unlocking the lock. He must have pulled the clips out without filming it .
I wish I knew how it sounded without the mods and lube I would be scared to do it for my first time 😅
If you’re too worried about opening the keyboard just try to mod the stabilizers! I didn’t do much to the keyboard after opening it, I don’t think you would see much difference if you skipped that part ☺️
does it support pcb-mount stabs?
Hi, your video helped me decide to buy this board (my first custom keyboard build). Do you think that the stock stabilizers are good enough or it is better if i buy better ones?
the stock ones are fine! I kept them and they sound great!
Love the vid, just got my very own. I was wondering if you knew how to turn off the light bar/turn (the RGB below page down) it in to a solid colour? Thank you
Not that I know of! Mine stays on
ah okay thank you@@anitaatech
Anybody knows if i can pop Gateron KS-33 low profile switches in ???
The regular V3 Gaterons in my GMK 67 with regular caps is way toooooo high 🥺
You can't, apart from Outemu half height switches, normal low profile switches have a different Pin layout at the bottom, so they cant be inserted in normal PCB's
I don’t even bother tape modding the pcb. It sounds better with the pre-installed foam. Great build and awesome video!
Thank's for mentioning. Just receieved my GMK87 so I think I'll just remove the screws and loob the switches.
So the tape mod was the only mod you made to it? Aside from the keycaps and switches you chose, ofc. Thanks
Tape mod, removed the screws, & stabilizer mods! I also lubed the switches I purchased.
Check out the new GMK81, I ordered that since the price of GMK87's went up before I could place my order.
Yes!! I saw it, it actually looks pretty nice but I’ve gotten hooked onto using my knobs for volume a lot. Congrats on your new keyboard!
@@anitaatechthank you! Can you make a tutorial on how to add gifs to the LCD screen?
Did it go up on Ali? Because after I ordered mine a couple days ago they shot the price up immediately like $10😭
@@Victussin The price went back down today on the GMK87's!
@@anitaatech I just got my GMK81 and did the tape mod to it, do I need to unscrew the PCB in order to access the stabilizers?
Hi Anita, how does the sound compare between tape mod vs. no tape mod?
Probably a more softer sound, less “poppy” most people describe it as.
is the holee mod neccesary on the stabs or are they good enough with just a generous coating of lube?
Up to you! I think it is because I think I tried to not holee mod the enter key and I heard a slight tick even with a lot of lube. But maybe that’s just me being picky! Plus maybe it was just mine, maybe yours are perfect! 👍🏻
hi, by the way really nice video, what do you use for holee modding stabs, like what tape, because I use a medical fabric based tape and the sound at the end is sandy( and what lube do you use for lubbing wires of stabs?
I just use band aid brand fabric band aids! I find you have to let the lube soak into the holee mod for a day or so for the sandy sound to go away, if not add a little more lube everyday until it is to your liking. The lube i use is linked in the description!
@@anitaatech thank you!
what is the resolution of gif?
Does silicon, eva or poron sheet help mitigate the case hollowness? Does the case creaky and thin?
yes those materials help, I would suggest to keep them in the board & no the case doesn't creak for me it's pretty solid
hi there may i know where you download the gifs TQ
I just search them on google, you can save them from there 😁
how would you be able upload the 2nd gif without losing the first one?
There's an option to add the second one in the application, you wont lose your first one
did u remove the piece of plastic film in between the pcb and the plate form
No I kept it
I use GMK81, I really like it. The sound is very pleasant, and 87 is also very beautiful. Can you share the music you used in your video? Very nice to hear, thank you
Hey thank you! The music is from Epidemic Sound!
Feels like i'm reading a novel
What was the option name to upload the 2nd GIF? it kept overwriting my 1st GIF in the Image Custom Tool
in the application if you click where it says "mode" you can upload a "custom1" and a "custom2" but there's a max amount of frames total for both combined (maybe 110ish) not sure the exact number right now but if you find you can't preview the entire gif it's probably too many frames
@@anitaatech Perfect, that explains it, there must be a total frame cap. Thank you!
did u replace the silicon back after tape modding? also, do u think it would be nice to tape mod on the silicon, that way i wouldn't need to take the silicon off
You probably wouldn't get as much of a poppy sound if you tape the case instead of the PCB so I would suggest tape modding the PCB instead but tape at your own risk (as always 😊) also the silicone isn't stuck on or anything, it was just a piece put in the case (so it's not difficult to remove) & yes I put it back!
@@anitaatech thank you, i'll try it when the keyboard arrive
have you ever tried tape modding the foam that sticks to the pcb? not taping it directly to pcb
how did you turn off the rgb strip above the arrow keys?
I didn't! It's still on
hey!! how has the gmk87 held up after 2 months? I heard there may be pcb issues and I want to get this boarddd
Really good for me! The same as when I purchased it :)
does keeping the PE foam result in a more thocky or less thocky sound
it helps with dampening like the quietness of the keyboard when you type. I guess, if you're looking for more of a thockier sound I would look into your switches & maybe lubing them too if you're up for it!
does the tape mod matter if there is the sillicon in the first place?
Personal preference!
Anyone who bought this keyboard have problem with F1-F12 keys? mine works only while pressing FN and its really annoying.
Did not find a fix for it i looked everywhere.
I'm not 100% sure this will work but have you tried remapping your keys with the VIA software? Otherwise I'd message them for some help with your board!
I'm trying to decide between GMK 87 and Ajazz AK820 pro. Is GMK 87 better then AK820 pro out of the box? I don't mod keyboard much.
They're both great out of the box, I like the GMK87 a little more for the fact that it has more RGB options, you can add 2 gifs which you can which between, if you like the deeper sound profile the GMK87 offers that where as the AK820 Pro sounds creamier naturally. BUT the GMK87 is much longer because of the layout & extra keys so if you don't like a wider set up then the Ajazz AK820 Pro is better for that! All preferences 😊
@@anitaatech thanks 🙂 I'm going for GMK 87
i found this board on a website and it was 24 USD. also what was the lube you used for your stabilizer wires?
I've seen it on sale a few times too but never that low! Lucky! The lube is the one in the lube kit linked in the description except I bought the lube only (same seller) since I finished the original bottle.
will the gmk87 break easily
@@anitaatechoh and how do you do a tape mod? what part of the pcb do you not cover with tape?
Where can I get this?
It doesnt have any offical website right =[ ?
I got mine from the official Zuoya store on AliExpress!
can you show us how to download the software? ive gotten it but i cant put anything on it
are you talking about the VIA or the image custom tool?
@@anitaatechthe image customtool tool
Just ordered this board in black with the same switches, but different keycaps :) love how it sounds
did opening and lubing the switches make a big difference you think?
I personally could tell a difference in sound and feel but it’s very subtle. I have a CZcams short showing the sound difference of stock vs lubed! They’re different keycaps so it’ll sound different in that aspect but it’ll still work for the comparison!
Hello, I am coolcat who runs a small CZcams channel in Korea.
Recently, I became interested in gmk67 and 87 and while doing research, I saw the video.
I think it's a barebone kit with much better performance than I thought. It seems to take advantage of the advantages of the switch.
The keycaps are pretty, too.
Do you also use a slightly high-pressure switch?
If so, I also recommend trying Groovestone's Milky v2 55g switch on that keyboard.
Anyway! I enjoyed the video.
I'm not good at English, but fortunately, the translation of Korean subtitles came out well, so I watched the video until the end. (LOL)
I subscribe. Thank you.
hey coolcat!! thank you for your kind comment!! I like heavier switches for gaming!! I'll look into it 😊 Thanks fellow keyboard enjoyer!
wait, what the hell? mine didn't come with any poron installed... did I get ripped of?
Mmm maybe it’s a qc issue… if you bought it from the official Zuoya store, they answered my questions pretty fast when I contacted them.
Does the top board have any plastic "squeeks", or anything that sounds like an old TV remote (if that makes sense lol) :D
Uh also! How much does it weigh after assembling it!
Not for me! I just squeezed mine. My kitchen scale reads 920 grams!
@@anitaatech Thanks a ton! I was hoping for it to be on the + side of 800, so that's so good to hear :)
hi can i ask how do u change the gifs?
On the keyboard it’s Fn + enter! Otherwise if you mean how to upload the gifs then there is software linked in my description (download at own risk)
How do I remove the ribon that connects the display?
there's either 2 black notches beside the cable locking mechanism or 1 black locking flap, unhook those and then the cable comes right out without any pressure. do the same but in reverse to put it back. If you're still unsure my 2 newer keyboard videos show this zoomed in, sorry I lost the footage from this one! (CMK75 & INFI75)
@@anitaatech Thank you!
hey uh how many layers of tape did you use? I'm thinking of getting this with gateron oil kings, by the way if I want to tape mod only I just open it up, then take out the foam and the thing under the pcb and then after I take those 2 off I will get the pcb. But then i need to take out the 2 cables? then i tape mod 5 layers and then plug it back and and put those 2 layers or something back right? Idk what it is called foam and the thingy that u pulled off the pcb
I used 3 layers of tape! you can tape mod around the cables if you don't want to take them apart! no biggie in my opinion. but it would be easier if you do take them off so you can lay it down on a flat surface! & yes, just put everything back in reverse!
@@anitaatech By the way, do you have any suggestions for switches? I want the keyboard to be clacky, and since this is a TKL or 87% key keyboard, it will suit me very well. But I want to get it clacky and I think all the mods I will ever do to it is just 5 layers of tape mod, but do you have any suggestions for clacky switches? (It will also be with 5 layers of tape soo yeah).
Can you please add the link to the keyboard as well ?
I bought mine from the Zuoya store on Aliexpress!
If only mine arrived lol.
😯
@@anitaatech it stuck on shipping for 37 days now
@@anitaatech it finally arrived and I got it for free lol
@@anitaatech I just realized that the inside of mine is missing the rubber piece at 2:10
Switch Otemu funcionam neste teclado?
sim, tanto de 3 pinos ou 5 pinos
how does it sound without any foam or dampening?
probably not great gonna be honest… most cases that aren’t super expensive won’t sound good foamless because removing foam pretty much makes it so the sound largely depends on your case construction (think material, how it’s machined, and the internal structure)
Probably lighter and more flat sound but I didn’t add any extra foams or filler! I just kept what it came with.
mafumafu number one
@@anitaatechhow's the flex on the keyboard? Can you maybe compare the flex to another keyboard?
How do you choose which gifs are shown on the screen?
you can scroll through your gifs with FN + Enter
@@anitaatech can you choose any gif that you want?
how is this board compared to ak820pro?
They're both great! I might like this one a little more though because of the extra features (adding a second gif, more RGB options, sound profile is a little deeper in my opinion too, I tested it with the same Akko silver pro switches) BUT the keyboard is much longer because of the layout & more keys so it makes my layout a little longer than I'm used to!
Popped all my switches in this board today and tons of the sockets don’t work. Suxxxxxxxxx
I would double check you didn’t bend any pins & make sure you’re on the right mode (bt, 2.4, or wired) otherwise I would suggest message them!
I@@anitaatech I swapped over switches from functioning sockets and checked pins for bending. About 15 keys don't register in via. I'll reach out. Thanks for your reply
@@anitaatech I figured it out. I think I wasn’t seating the switches with enough pressure in the board center due to the flex cuts in the pcb. All working now
nice glad to hear! I did put some pressure on the back of the board when installing my switches too!
akko 5075s or this gmk87? which one has the best quality
I'm not sure I haven't owned the first one, maybe someone else can chime in!
@@anitaatech thx s2
You removed the silicon layer and didn't put it back in right?
I put it back!
@@anitaatechI see thank you for clarifying! Do you just did the tape mod and lubed the stabs for your mods and left the rest as is?
Np 😊! I believe I holee modded the stabs too because of slight ticking but it's preference if you're fine with the original too!
what is the case made of?
Plastic!
did you like the rgb? they are strong??
Well i dont have gmk87 but i do have gmk67 and yes its very strong and u can control the brightness and theres lots of rgb settings you can choose
@@-Idonotknow sim mas tipo o gmk87 tem um novo tipo de rgb ( south ) é embaixo então acho que seja diferente, e nos vídeos que vi a maioria o rgb não destaca
the RGB is bright, you can customize different tones of colours too unlike the GMK67. I was confused at first why it wasn't changing colour but it was just different shades slightly each time. It doesn't show well in my video because I had it on the setting where it shows only on the key I type & my keycaps aren't shine through.
@@anitaatech do you think he is stronger than gmk67?
Could you provide the download link for the gmk87 software?@@anitaatech

What key caps are those?
They're in the description if you're interested~~~
@AnitaDer Ahahaha yeah I saw it like right after I commented, goodness me for not looking close enough but thanks for responding!
what type of alcohol r u using ?
99% isopropyl alcohol
I got the keyboard for $35, let’s see how much bang for the buck I can get.
i bought this keyboard to see that a lot of led are not workingk properly and now i need to wait to take my refund..
😢
These quite keyboards type like SHIT! I never make like any mistakes using clicky switches which is what is recommended for typing, but when I try any linear switch I constantly make typing mistakes...
