These guys are all champs in my books. Look at those bike. Sizes L and XL, weak suspension/ no rear shock, seat post raised way up, tires small and so on but they are the ones who brought the sport to where it is today. Thanks dudes

Catcrumbs back in the 90's they might have thought something like "HEY, high saddle is a GREAT idea!" xD Jeeez, also the down the stairs ... even i managed them better with a woman bike back in the 90's as 12 yr old child xD Must have been funny times for them :D
+Catcrumbs In the 90's there where a lot of tracks with long pedaling sections. Sometimes even uphill sections. So it has always been a descision how much you will lose on the downhill with a high seat post or loose at the pedaling section with a low seat post.
Vintage riding style. No one did knew better at this times… All todays riding techniques developed during 1990-ties… ;) And in XC/Olympic they still ride hardtail without dropper seat post.
20 years ago, these were probably top technology in bikes. Crazy to think that in another 20, we will probably be looking at mountain bikes from today thinking how ridiculously lowbrow the technology is too.
Damn, so many neon spills! This must be wildly steeper than it looks, I've never seen so many tacod wheels before. I remember riding Whistler in the early '90s with a 1 inch travel fork and all 4 fingers pulling on those damn canti brakes, forearms so sore...
If a modern downhill rider were to go back in time with todays gear and bikes these guys would call him a pussy and they would have all the right to do it. This is hardcore!
they would think he's a god since he'd be doing lines that they thought were impossible, a mediocre downhill rider would look like hes riding Redbull Rampage to them
Those white tires some of the drivers drove were white Onza Porcupines. These tires go on ebay for 300 Euro each (often much more). I remember these tires well. On rain wet streets it always laid me down when I had these tires on my bike. Many scars and scratches on myself and my bike were a result of these slippery white onza tires ;)
Could be, but it's a combination of speed and terrain. These guys appear to be riding completely rigid frames, so at 20mph+ and roots/rocks/ruts are going to be flying at you pretty fast with nothing to absorb the impact, which makes for some pretty spectacular endos and whatnot.
Wow, I never thought about them having clampers only. What they are doing resembles cross biking but there is no downhill cross biking and for very good reasons.
omg they look like they don't know the track at all :)) Also having the saddle a little bit lower would definitelly help against those ridiculous falls :)
Have you ever ridden a Mid 90's frame? The geometry has advanced so far alone in the past 20 years its unbelievable. Don't believe me? I have a Proflex hanging on the wall you can come ride whenever you want.
Tja stimmt. Bist schon mal in Kaprun gefahren .

I am so thankful for all the advancements in MTB technology and techniques looking at this. Salute to the pioneers and innovators.
4:23 a true downhiller, no brakes basically LOL
Those Magnificent Men And Their Flying Machines !!! True Heroes. True Bikes!
How is it possible to sent 100 guys racing down a hill without any of them figuring out that dropping their saddle might be a good idea?
That's what I thought to

There was a lot of pedaling sections back in the day. No dropper posts, no quick release clamp, no time to change the height in a race.

Respect to all of them. Low quality brakes, frame, components, no sprung fork, lower quality equipment...ahhh, real adventure.

Not really 1995 already first rockshox boxxer were out... But they done funny shit here

Better than stamp brake 😂

@@jalubo420id say an xc bike or downcountry would be more suited to this, you can still beat all of them easily and be able to pedal.
I only laughed all throughout the video because they looked so pissed after crashing. Haha. Those guys were hardcore though and that trail was scary!
That and all the a-holes in the crowd were openly laughing at them.

rewelacyjne ujęcia, ten klimat :)
best bike edit i ever seen from 90s! :D
Ein sehr unterhaltsames Stück Zeitgeschichte.
this is hardcore, today riders are so spoiled.
Watching this makes you understand modern MTB geometry.
that one leg trick at 1:12 was awesome
sooo geil !!!
Thank god tyre/suspension/frame technology has improved since then!
LMFAO.....FUN as Hell too much speed BRO
Pure crazy. I love the video :)
Nowadays, race like these are called XC.
And thank god they dont look that dumb anymore
it's too dry for CX, it needs more mud.
Even for XC way to easy!
Gravel race.
Sehr fein. :)
OMG, these are some of the GNARLIEST crashes i've ever seen...all in one place haha!
Wow, I never knew a fire road could be so tough, but I guess with the technology of the time it makes sense 😆
really shows how far mountain bikes have progressed.
Bestes Downhill Video auf CZcams
lol this is hypnotic, can´t stop watching
True... lowering down the gravity axis would definitely help. But i actually wonder that some of them were able to stand up and continue :)
absoluter burner!!!
das isses man !!! WIIIIEEE GEIL ^^
I used to own one of those Trek 930s bike. I may still have it in storage somewhere.
Respekt.

It just comes to show how the sport has changed in the last 20 years. You could do all of this track on a unicycle if you wanted to!
