However, their weight difference is completely irrelevant. Hafthor is 7 inches taller than Eddie. If anything Eddie actually has more mass than Hafthor relative to height. The whole thing is bogus as hell.

    • @klokar21
      @klokar21 Před rokem +1

      Eddies points are so fucking dumb, it was on video you can easily disprove all of this. Thors dad put the plates on the scale, Magnus approved the weights and signed them which you can see on film, Magnus is an official who officiated hundred of Eddies lifts. The point about a home gym is bullshit, home turf has never been a factor, it is still 501 kilos whether you are in your grandmas bedroom or in front of every official who has ever lived, only people who have never lifted and Eddie Hall care about this point because every other strongman including Eddie Halls best friend Brian Shaw says the lift was legit. ESPN livestreamed the event, they can get sued for lying about this, The lift was performed under competition rules with the same breaks and time limits between lifts as any other competition. Which this point actually works in favor for Thor because for Eddies lift there was a significant break in his 500kg lift as host for the event spent ages hyping up the crowd and doing an interview with Eddie Hall before his lift, so Thor got LESS time inbetween his lifts than Eddie did.

    Eddie's lift is more significant because it was a leap of 35 kilos and an amount of weight that was previously thought to be beyond human capabilities. Hathathor's 501 is a product of the confidence that Eddie created in the 500 and adding a kilo. As far as their arguments against one another I think it's a lot of BS from both of them. Eddie shouldn't care about the 501 because although more than 500, it didn't break new ground. Eddie's 500 shattered ideas about human capabilities, whereas the 501 is more or less saying fuck you Eddie I can do it to, but he would have probably never worked towards or attempted 501 had Eddie not pulled 500. If Eddie pulls 485, breaks the record by 20 kilos Hathor works his way up the 486 or 490.. The internet does not have a long memory, but if you look back at some of the strongmen competitions that they did with each other team Thor has a really dodgy history with trying to overturn good lifts through complaints to the referee. This is a big reason why Eddie first began disliking Thor so much. It's also interesting that Thor would attempt to lie about his event being "live". Idk if it makes any difference, but boy did Thor get emotional when he was called out on it

Pritchett said he tore a hamstring because in contrast to Eddie, he couldn't choose the pause times - which is true if you watch the live stream.
      Second example would be at 0:45 _"Who sanctioned it?"_ After Thor answers with "WUS" (which is correct), Eddie asked if anybody from WUS was there. Of course there weren't officials from WUS directly. The whole world was in lockdown mode. However, Magnus ver Magnusson, one of the most dignified official refs of WSM, ASC *and* WUS, was there to sign up everything.
      Third example at 1:05 is just a straight up lie, which Magnus himself already denied.
      Fourth example at 1:38 _"Who weighed the plates?"_ is a question that doesn't matter at all, since Thor's dad laid the plated onto an *industrially calibrated scale.* There is no room to cheat there.
      Fifth example at 1:55 _"Rogue, Rogue, Rogue"_ ... yeah, so what? Rogue also sponsors WUS in general, as well as ASC. Also, Eddie's Giant Live deadlift literally had his own bar and floor mats on stage.
      Sixth example at 3:20 _"It even says out of competition!"_ Well, if you call that farce that was Giants Live 2016 a "competition", you're lost anyway. That said, there are record breaker events in strongman for an eternity now - Brian Shaw's atlas stone record was also set at an event just like Thor's was.

One year later, when Thor broke the record, he suddenly says they invent lighter bars to pull to finally beat his 500 kg record. Looking at Thor's *and* Eddie's respective records, it's safe to assume the elephant bar is harder to pull because of the swing.

    Thor's deadlift was a great EXHIBITION lift. Amazing strength effort that shouldn't go unappreciated. Having said that, there are many many exhibition lifts on CZcams that are the same weight or heavier than what Thor pulled. I don't think there would be anyone who has competed in strength sports that wouldn't say Eddie's 500kg deadlift is far more impressive and mind blowing than Thor's 501kg. Competition lifts such as Eddie's are on another level when compared to home gym lifts. The factors involved such as not getting to choose when you lift, the order the competitors lift in, timing warm up sets back stage to coincide with your lift while everyone else is getting in the way doing the same thing, the amount of strength events you have already competed in that day that have depleted your energy store.. The list really goes on and on. For a world record in the strength world to count, it MUST be done in competition. That's the long and short of it. Eddie wanted to break the record for log press and asked the powers that be to stage an event so he could do it, and he was told "no, if you want to break a record, you do it in competition like everyone else". I don't see why Thor's "record" should even count considering he didn't follow the processes every other strength athlete before and after him has to follow.

      Pretty much everything you said was false. According to gym vault there is one person who has deadliftet 501 or higher in a gym.
      Eddie got to chose when he lifted. Eddie wasn't in the competition, he was just doing the deadlift, and thus didn't do any other events before that would fatigue him. It wasn't a coincidence that he was the first lifter, the event was for him and Jerry Pritchet talks about how he got injured due to it.
      For a world record to count it must not be in a competition, no such rule exists and would void a lot of records.

    All of Eddie’s points are valid. There’s a massive difference between a competition with fans and doing it on your own turf. I mean there. Statistically in major sports a home field advantage is legit. It’s not massive but anywhere between 53-60% of home games in the NHL, basketball, football, etc are WON by home teams. That’s a significant statistic in the long run. His DAD weighed his plates…not a neutral 3rd party. He set his own timeline for it, and the JUDGE he used for the event was the SAME JUDGE who he said was incompetent and had no idea how to judge (because he got pinged for a blatant violation during a SM event and lost the event). Cool, he looked like he struggled less than eddie BUT as a S&C coach for over a decade I’ve had clients that make every lift from 90% of their max to a PR look insanely hard…and I’ve had clients who make their max look effortless (but add another kilo and they can’t move it at all) so the “look” of the lift is irrelevant. A kilo is a kilo and beating the record by 1 kilo or 20 kilos or half a kilo is still a record breaking lift but Thor is a notorious cry baby and has been called out for his poor sportsmanship by competitors in the past so he can whine all he wants about his lift being valid, he would have found excuses if he blew the lift anyways.

      and on top of that, Thor didn't have to create a disturbing scene in his mind to generate adrenaline, where his family is dying like Eddie had to. Eddie even admits on videos how he with sober mind couldn't lift the weight.
      Thor did with pure strength.
      Eddie did it with weaker strength and dark mind hypnosis.

    Think anyone who's done sport or competitions at national level or above know that there's a big difference doing something essentially in 'training/home' compared to doing in a competition, sitting around doing heats/rounds/ prepping waiting around/having competition nerves. Everything being measured, all the pressure, it's just not the same.

    • @joeridestrijcker445
      @joeridestrijcker445 Před rokem +1

      each medal has two sides; my gf literally always had her best lifts in competition, never in training; something about ego, adrenaline boosts, crowds cheering, healthy 'pressure' to move above and beyond; and other people would 'choke' under pressure... it's not the same for everyone. Like NBA players who are KNOWN to shine (or choke) at buzzer beaters...

    • @RealBazman

      Except Eddie's lift wasn't like a proper competion lift. It was more of a doing my own thing in frint of big audience. The whole event was built around him. He got exactly the rest times he needed, he did no other lifts or events prior to that, he could warm up the way he wanted and his lift was the first of the competition.

    • @RealBazman
      @RealBazman Před rokem

      That said, I think Eddie's achievement cannot be swept under the rug just because someone lifted heavier, but Thor's lift was just as hard imo as his, he should have gone 5kg heavier just so naysayers could shut up

    • @borisbolshoi7317
      @borisbolshoi7317 Před rokem +1

      I think I sort of need to clarify this more. Most athletes when they do a record in competition they've already done it in training, most of the time they need to have done near their pb just to qualify they don't get an invite otherwise. Athletes don't just rock up out of the blue and do WRs. Most team sports are different as they're usually championships not knock out. Competitions are better because there are other individuals, they're not just there to win but also to validate another competitors results. Also to Thor if there was an official weighing with official measuring equipment it may have been the case that he did above 501.

      @rg5312 Před rokem +1

      He didn't have a choice though. It was during covid with lockdowns. He was already training for it for a long time prior to covid, its not like he wanted to do it in his home gym.

    This is very simple. Every single aspect should be third party verified. (Weighing weights and such)
    And it should all be done in the same controlled environment. That's how science is done and that's how this should be done.
