To be fair, when siblings hate each other, they'd say the worst things about the other... It doesn't necessarily mean that the writers think that about the actress, but that Tony thinks that about the character.

This is why the show deserves rewatching. I had no idea Phil was in prison - I guess it goes some way to explain his character. Real old school - not a peep. Still, it’s subtle stuff from the writers, you’d think they’d at least drop some hints.
It was a shocking surprise for me. I mean 20 years and no f´n clue.
Sopranos fans are always trying to see way more than what the writers intended. If Phil had ever been in the can, they would have let you know. Enough with the speculation.
