Phone Controlled Elevator Indicator

- This project was a proof of concept for a future project to see if my idea would even work. A common issue I run into, especially for position indicators, is interfacing with the user. Parts with the indicators directly on the panel aren't an issue since the floor buttons are right there. However, indicators that are separate from the buttons can't be connected as easily. There are times when I only have the indicator, so connecting the buttons is not an option. Then for the ones I do have the car panel for, I would have to connect wires between the parts for communication. I wanted to come up with a way to solve these issues and make these parts usable.
This proof of concept is implementing a WiFi based control system for these indicators where your phone acts as the input controller. My indicator of choice for this test was my Long elevator PI. I had previously made a simple cycle up/down controller for this because I didn't have a good way to take in user inputs. Now, this part can be controlled from any device that connects to it! For being a proof of concept, this worked extremely well and it showed me that using this system will work. I plan on expanding this system to other projects in the future!

This is really cool!
Thanks!
Wow that is insane!
Thanks! I have some plans on how I want to expand this system in the future :)
That is such a cool project! I wonder how Andrew will react to it!
I already showed him
@@stlelevators How did he react?
@@stlelevators this is epic
Epic!
Thank you!
Awesome project Jason! Imagine if elevators were controlled thru a phone. Lol
I'm pretty sure that already exists.
@@stlelevators Yeah I think Schindler now does it.
@@MasterTechPaul Schindler does it with PORT.
I wish you can upgrade more parts in the elevaTOURS international elevator museum with this feature. And more of your existing parts too. Justin can do this with all his parts also.
That might be part of the plan ;)
This is so cool
Thanks!
@@stlelevators your welcome
Nice! Perhaps you could make a simple app for it with a template on one of those app creator things.
I'd rather learn to develop it myself instead of relying on some other software. Then I can put exactly what I want on it. The website based controller also makes it where anyone can use it without downloading an app.
@@stlelevators that is totally true! do you know how to develop apps for iOS or Android currently? I’m taking an app development course right now and it’s pretty tough but rewarding in the end. Also, you could leave the site as a limited option and have the app with extra features so you have the best of both worlds.
@@ShowMeStateElevators I've never tried, but I think the system I have in place will let me implement the system I eventually want to build. I wouldn't really need to add any more functionality on the site sides of things, so having the app just would add extra overhead in this case.
@@stlelevators yeah that is true. Looking forward to seeing the future of this thing!
Where did you get that controller from? I currently don’t have any PIs but I do have two lanterns
What controller? I programmed and wired it all myself.
@@stlelevators That microcontroller
nice what phones can do now.
This can be controlled by any device that has a web browser.
How much can I buy it for
Not for sale
HOW??????
Coding!
@@stlelevators magical, right? :P
