Pete flies under the radar. Only people that know who he is are the people in the pits. Cleet did a lot for his recognition but Pete was already well respected in this sport.
Love this 5 questions format. I am a subscriber of Pete’s channel that started with the first tune on Mullet. I have wondered what Pete’s past was In Motorsports. Thank you, loved the video.

My streetcar goes faster now lol I went 5.10 in the eighth two weekends ago in Louisiana and drove it back to Wisconsin a week later we always seem like we're on the edge of what's possible and then it just gets blown out of the water with the tech that keeps pushing forward
He used to tune nitrous cars with carbs back in the 90s he built and tuned two of my buddies ( brothers ) 347 powered mustangs & both cars ran 5.70s in the 1/8th at Mooresville dragstrip, both were full interior foxbody streetcars. I know for a fact he will not tune any of this new stuff because i asked him about tuning my brothers 2019 ss Camaro and it was a fast NO lol
Learned about Beer Money in the pits at one of MAK TV's Bangers. Been a fan ever since. There are some crazy hot rods doing back half no prep stuff on a budget. But most can't afford to travel to be seen live. And live at the track is what it's about. Keep sharing. Love the content.
Pete has to re-think the whole Cleetus question now that the engine has been upgraded to an SMX capable of 4k HP. Now the question/questions are "can they make it hook up and not blow the tires off on every run" or "how fast can you make a 3500# brick go down the track" or "how many parts can that engine break down stream of said engine". I see transmissions and drive shafts and rearends going boom in the near future. One thing is for sure that engine has no idea what it's in for, because it will be treated like a rented mule from now on. Mc Farland racing the ultimate in "Destructive Testing". Steve is laying in bed thinking "My God, what have I done". As a parent of 5 children and now a grandparent of 7 grand children one has to wonder on Christmas morning when little Cleeter opened a gift, just how long did it take said child to completely destroy it. Stay Tuned, because I think were about to find out.
love this series. Pete is a great mind in this sport. He certainly knows not to says something can't or won't happen. the technology in racing is hard to keep up with when it is so easy to make big horsepower numbers these days.
@@studdaman420 No I didn't see the video I am not a NUT RIDER of his 🧁 And no 5's Without chassie work and big tires 🧁 And what is this WE stuff are you a turd in his pocket🤦♂️😂😂
I was wanting to hear him talk about how it was tuning on a Motor built by Steve Morris and if they even talked about anything tuning wise...Pete did awesome with Garrett and Mullett but after i found out who he was, i wondered if that was a weird deal between the 3 of them.
That's the thing with pete he's not gonna step on someone else toes or bad mouth their engine builds unless you build junk. Back when i was building my 427 big block and took the NHRA super stock heads to him for a valve job he was chewing my ear off because i wouldn't put small stem valves in them lol, at the time i didn't have the money for it.
@@Brooks336 Oh no, i wasnt even thinking about any crap talking. I was just wondering about how these 2 big name guys in the engine building and tuning world are both involved with a very popular youtube racing channel at the same time. I wouldnt expect either of these guys to trash talk each other. Its like if some big popular channel bought a new Ford truck then had a GM Exec come work on it for that channel. Goofy analogy but its what o came up with lol
@@warrenmichael918 I wasn't thinking you was saying anything bad lol. Pete builds Doug's engine & tunes and builds a lot of radial cars engines so with garret liking to run radials Doug probably told him about pete and went from there is my guess.
@@warrenmichael918Cletus needs people with knowledge on running fast times and Cletus has a large fan base so can help drive traffic to these people. It’s a win-win. It wouldn’t have been hard for Cletus to find out who’s worth seeking out to get things done right.
I like the episode. You did kind of throw Pete under the bus with your last question though. So much of the answer to that lay in what engine upgrades Cleetus may or may not do while it is out of the car.
Refine the engine combo? As good a relationship as Cleetus seems to have with Steve and his engines. Does that mean Pete would rather put together his own engine for Mullet or actually "refine" Steve's combo?
I don't know that Pete really wants the headache of building an engine for drag n drive. Or maybe he has before. I dunno. I wonder if maybe we'll see a Pete powerplant in a different Cleetus vehicle. How about in that Holden Ute that's waiting in the wings?
With the right engine combo and Pete’s tuning I honestly think Mullet can go as fast as Cleetus is willing to push Mullet and himself. That said to get past the 6:30’s I think will require a transmission change to a Lenco 5 speed or Liberty 7 speed.
Definitely not to go 630 or even 620...maybe any faster but a th400 will take you just as fast with the right tuning that's why a couple guys are dropping them in NPK for the weight in favor of a th400 because they were able to go faster with the th400 the season before he went 647 @ 224 with a conventional big block on 45psi.. with an SMX he could go 630s right off rip with good prep he can literally go from topped at 45 to 90+ PSI now if he wanted.. according to Pete there still time there and I trust him.. it's just with how heavy mullet is its not easy... But he's not done yet

Someone's gotta get Pete a shirt that says saxy tuner now! 😂😂😂
Think that's one for Cleetus to do he has a shirtprinter
Pete is a legend.
He's one badass dude hard to find someone that can do it all , build motors, tune them, set up chassis & play good music 👍
With Pete this needed to be 5 videos of 5 questions each maybe he will go on Coopers podcast and talk for 3 hours
Pete is a bad dude !!!
Stevie is fast no doubt but watched this because Pete is humble in his vast knowledge.
Wish he was still in the building TKM is in it's a 15 minute drive from my house but i'll still travel the 40 minutes to go see HED.
He's pretty good at doin' stuff.

I'm curious what Pete thought of the drag-n-drive experience, and if he'll do it again...
well with the videos on his channel he looked like he was still having a good time after Mullet broke at the other tracks later in the week
great video! details. details. details.
The first time I went to Tulsa in the 70s I thought they will never go faster. They were running mid to high 6s in top fuel. Cars go faster now.
