  • BMW is known for the high performance of their M branding of cars. This 2015 M235i might not be a full blown M car but it does have a nice balance of performance, style, and price. Check out more of what this 2015 BMW M235i has to offer.

Great review Joe, It's good to see BMW getting back in the game. The new M5 is a weapon, for awhile there in the early 2000's they got really boring but it looks like its changing. I would get a BMW but one of the main issues is depreciation, you loose almost half the worth of the car in the first year its crazy and the fact they don't budge on pricing and no trade-in seems to be worthy of a decent drop in price. They are real sticklers here in Australia lol, Thanks again. Cheers!

It has twin scroll turbo , meaning two scrolls in one turbo which helps suck in more air ... FYI

  • @ksull72487
    @ksull72487 Před 4 lety +8

Twin Scroll turbo. Two scrolls to reduce turbo lag. They’ve been doing this for awhile even on the Mini Cooper S. Second the car does have an M Adaptive Suspension and M Sport Breaks. Same as M2. Their are different options you can order on brakes but the brakes on this car are a huge step up from any other. Yes it’s not a M2 but it does deserve the M badge. Uses the same engine as an M2. M2 does step things up and yes it’s more of a track car. The M235i is more balanced.
You said a lot of things right about the car but got a few things wrong that should definitely be noted. It has more and common with the M2 then you let on.
But the M2 is tuned a bit different does have some differences and will be faster. The funny thing is that ZF8 Automatic in the M235i might beat a Manual M2. That ZF8 is an option on the M2 but it’s one hell of a transmission. It can definitely shift.
It’s also worth noting that the M235i came out before the M2. It was kinda the preview car of what the M2 was going to be like but it’s their to kinda replace the 135i that we all loved and missed.
It does get confusing. But BMW didn’t mess anything up. You can get M Parts or Packages on any BMW. But any car that has the M in front of the single number that’s the staple. Any car that has the M in front of the numbers that’s got enough in common with the staple and maybe some different options to be worthy of the M Badge.
If you buy a 435i with all the m packages the door sills will say M. Not M2 or M235i or M4. It denotes the fact this car has M packages but is not an M Car.
We also have a BMW M8 and an M850. It’s the same thing the M8 is the staple. 850 has enough in common to get the M badge but maybe ordered with different options.
The M850 is 20k cheaper than the M8 but you can package it differently.
Same went with M235i and M2 generally 5-10k less depending on used or new.
Long comment but any car that has an M in its model number is definitely worthy of the badge.
Typically the staple is the better car but certain options may be available on an M850 rather than an M8. Or maybe someone dosent want to go the full distance of the M8 or aggressiveness. Save some money get the m850i your close enough.
BMW started doing this awhile ago. It creates a different price point allows for more options and still gives the customer the satisfaction of owning an M Car. I’ll bet it does help their margins too. An M235i could produce the power of an M2. All you need is a tune and about $500.
So for short we have BMWs and then BMWs with M packages or parts and then we have the M cars , the M# always being the staple a and then the M### that is cheaper but close and may be able to be packaged differently. That’s kinda the way they do it.

Raiti's Rides they actually declare that twin scroll turbo is more efficient than having 2 turbos. I have that in my e89 and there is almost no lag and it has very linear acceleration. That’s where the twin scroll principle shines.

Go stage 2+ The difference between stage 1 -> stage 2+ is much bigger than from stock -> stage 1, at least on the butt dyno! You should already have upgraded charge pipes so all you will need to upgrade (besides preventative maintenance) is your FMIC and downpipe--I always buy from VRSF, super high quality and low prices. I also recommend changing your spark plugs and gapping them one step colder to account for the increased power--I like NGK. For your intake, the stock one is fine, only difference you'll get from aftermarket is the turbo noise. Good luck! :^)

The M235i is definitely worthy of the M badge, it's less than a second slower than the M2 0-60mph, so kinda makes buying an M2 a mugs game really.
The 228, 230 and diesel m badged 2 series are not worthy and are just a M-arketing ploy.

The 228i and 230i aren’t M badged. Those blue “upgraded” brakes are standard on the m235i and m240i. You can get them as an option on the 228i and 230i. Once again there is no M designation on the 228i and 230i.

@@scottl8416 I think he means the M line badged cars. However unless there is a big M Infront of the model number it's not an M car but a M-arketing ploy, like the Audi S Line, the Ford ST line etc....lower spec non-performence cars given some of the aggressive looks or just painted calipers of the real performance badges to sell them.

"is it worthy of the M badge" ... lol, ok...hey, why don't you go tell the BMW engineers that decided on the "M" in the name what your opinion is. I am sure they are just WAITING to hear what you think, mr. you-tuber. lol.

Correction: The BMW badge represents a Spinning Airplane Propeller. BMW has its roots in Aircraft manufacturing, it does not have anything to do with the German Flag...

actually no, that's a common misconception; BMW even says it on its website that it's taken from the Bavarian flag

The emblem is supposed to be an homage to BMW’s connection to the airplane industry. The logo is a propeller against a blue sky. 2. BMW uses twin power to market their Twin-Scroll turbo which is more efficient and is more tune-able than older pneumatic waste-gate variants. It’s not to “trick” anyone into anything because when they do make twin turbo cars (N54) they don’t make a big deal about marketing the turbos this was marketing new technology. It’s not their fault people don’t read the basic info. The brakes are from and some of the suspension parts are not standard their taken from M division and the M235 shares some suspension parts with the M3/4. Randy Pobst called it one of the best bmw’s in the past ten year when it came out. You don’t know what this car is… This was not a very good review it’s only good to people that don’t know anything so you can tell them anything.

There's only one way to go with this car and it has to have the x-Drive other than that it's not worth buying!

please do not do anymore BMW reviews until you educate yourself on BMW's, you made so many mistakes on this car.
