What was your favorite part of our drive on the Road to Hana? Thanks for watching!
Honestly, Hwy 1 in CA puts this to shame. Big Sur, Pebble Beach, etc. I am glad I got to see this. Thanks!
Ok. Sounds like you really like HWY 1 a lot, and I believe you. They. both have their beauties to them! CK
We went 22 years ago. We were not able to finish the Road to Hana but it was beautiful. Thank you for bringing back memories
Mr. Camera Guy, you rocked that driving, WOW! Thank you for taking us along, such beautiful country, God bless you both!
Thank you for sharing. Almost five years ago my husband I were there, but we couldn't go all the way in because of the fog and that was in November. But few years back we got to go all the way in. This brings back memories. I love Maui! I could live there when I win the lottery.
Love this. My husband and I were married on Makkena Surf beach and drove the road to Hana as part of our honeymoon. Great to see this again 15 years later. Being on that road headed back at dusk was the first time I ever experienced motion sickness lol
Interesting and entertaining video, but now I will pass on driving myself.
That beach is amazing! The water is so blue because of the black volcanic sand. We swam in it even though the jellies were everywhere! Thank God we didn’t get stung. Lol
My grandparents made a great living towing people on that road!! I want to commend you on driving so carefully and courteously!
MOST beautiful drive in all the world! Loved it! My grandma was born in Hana!
Oh WOW! I went to Maui & Kauai for my honeymoon 18 years ago! I recognize the sights...so beautiful. Thanks for the video.
So glad you enjoyed it, LJC and it brought back happy memories. Thanks for watching!
That bridge at the "canyon" used to get washed out a lot in the 80s and a few of my classmates couldn't get to school for days at a time!
I've always wanted to go to Maui. Thank you so very much for sharing this adventure. It's so incredible! The majesty of the falls and huge trees.
Wait..did u move to Hawaii? I'm here now researching The Road tin Hana and came across this video. Awesome! Thanks for sharing
What a great road trip! Thanks for taking us along.
This video reminds me of what got me to following CaliKim in the first place.................
What a great video keepsake. Great job!!!
Volcanic rock is just rocking beautiful stuff!!! Nice vid...
Absolutely stunning and breathtaking!!! Camera Guy was so polite with his alert honking on the winding, narrow roads.. when we explored Jamaica..honking lasted for almost 30 sec!! Thanks for sharing your adventure!🍃⚘🍃
Hi Oriana, lol, I bet that is an adventure too! Thankfully everyone(for the most part) drives very slowly, and we did hit it early so that traffic was only backed up in a few spots. Thanks for enjoying the views with us!
Going there soon so we are doing this looks amazing!
Wainapanapa St Park is absolutely gorgeous. I've stayed in the cabins and fished off the cliffs. Picking fruit along the way, the waterfalls, Charles Lindberg's grave, the opihi, Hana Bay and the winding roads all bring back memories. We hiked thru Haleakala down to Kaupo Gap the camped along the cliffs. Great vid!
Wow so beautiful 🌺me and my family did our trip to the big island 🌴 in 2013 for 2 weeks and it was unforgettable
Wow! Thanks for sharing this experience! Just majestic ❤❤❤
It was so beautiful, sometimes we just couldn't say anything. Thanks for enjoying it with us!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey of Hawaii 🤣 I've lived in California my entire life and I am sitting here saying to myself, " Why have I not been to Hawaii yet?! Have a blessed trip you guys 😀 Renee from Winchester, California
Hi Renee - You have got to go - watch for air fare deals. Southwest started flying to Hawaii, so the prices dropped in the spring and we got super cheap fares. Hope you can go soon, thanks for enjoying it with us!
Nice job you surviving ..i went with my boyfriend last may and is amaysing i love it and the flowers over there are two times bigger ,i am glad you guys have a very good time .!!
I clicked "like" before the video started! This has been on our wish list for many years. Thank you for bringing it to us! If we ever go I'm getting a Jeep, and I never realized that way of using of the horn before, but it makes perfect sense.
Hey Cliff - You've got to go! We are sooo glad we rented the jeep, it brought us closer to nature as we drove, besides the benefit of being able to film out the roof, ha, ha. Some hairy moments, as we did see a car off the road in the rain (for some reason, I hit the stop button on the camera, so we did not get it on video), but worth every nerve wracking moment! Thanks for enjoying it with us!
Summer of 2018 my dad and I went to Oahu and Maui. We checked out to Lahaina and did the road to Hana. Hawaii is such a magical place.
I agree, it reminded me of parts of Ethiopia. The hiking trails remind me of Kentucky.
Haven't been to Maui in years, it's worth the time and money.
Wow , thanks for the tour, that bamboo forest was unbelievable. My favorite.
so so so beautiful thank you for sharing...i have never been there and probably never will....it is just so gorgous and i hella love it....amazing place....your very Blessed
OMGosh! That road!!! 😬🙏
It's crazy, but the amazing scenery makes every nerve wracking moment worth it. I did get nervous when it started to rain, but thankfully it stopped before we got on the worst part of the road. Thanks for coming along for the ride, Sally!
Is that road part of the full road the first part was paved and looked safer.
We've been on the road to Hana several times but never went the full loop around. Thanks for taking us with you via video! Maui is our favorite island!!
Wow!!! Thanks for sharing this beautiful video. U guys look like u are having so much fun, keep safe.
I am paleontologist/geologist and I am soooo envious lol beautiful trip!
You'd love it - and I'm sure you could tell us tons about the rocks, history of the volcanoes, ect. I hope you get to go someday!
very beauitful Its so breath taking thanks for showing us
What a coincidence I have friends on vacation there the week it looks beautiful
This tripped we took a few years back was awesome. Wish we would of stop at the black sands beach..
Now how beautiful is that! You make me want to go! And the "Road"..... An absolute adrenaline rush..... Not in a good way! LOL! You Guys must have had such fun! Thank you for taking us along! :-) OH WOW That sunset!!!!!!
Hi Sharon, highly recommend Maui, and in spite of some hairy moments on the Road to Hana, it's well worth it! We did have a blast and can't wait to go back. Thanks so much for enjoying the sunset with us!
I love the Road to Hana! It’s breathtaking!
O wow! I wish we could go to that piece of paradise some day... You are truly blessed to be able to go there!
Thank you for sharing a little of your trip with us :D
Thank you both for sharing what here is a Saturday morning guided journey around Maui! While you are visiting a more tropical climate, back up this way there is a hint of fall in the air. Of course there is also much garden ripening under way too. Please have a wonderful vacation together :-) -Bob...
a l o h a, wow you made it to Hawaii, lots plants here huh? lol
I visit maui hawawwi 8 years ago and it look beautufil
Aloha. On my last trip over to Maui, I drove that route and as I came around a corner all of the sudden there was a huge cow laying in the middle of the one land dirt road that just did not want to move. Took almost half an hour to convince it to move off the road. lol.
Hello RC, lol, crazy cow- what an adventure! Glad you were able to experience this amazingly scenic drive as well. Thanks for watching!
Kids, thanks for the ride .....
Great video. Well done. What was the name of your second stop with the beautiful blue water.
Wow that was fantastic. You really captured the beauty of the surroundings.
I am bringing some of my top performers to Hawaii in 2020. I think I might have to take the same path you took. That was really cool.
I love love love that trip
Dude great video ! on 9/12/2019 I decided to do the same route. O man , I almost crap my pants. My wife 🙏 to the gods to make it to the pavement road. My idea was get a small n gas saver car. Wrong or good idea at the same time. If I would of get a wide body Jeep . I would of been freaking out on gas or can’t get pass narrow road or close call getting hit by another vehicle...i lost count how many time rocks fell on top of my roof.
All I can say is great road trip!!!
No way!!!
Love your video!! It inspired my trip to Maui/ my new Vlog! Thank you!
6:46 that tree!! I would love to see it up close. Beautiful island, some of the roads remind me of home here in the Virgin Islands😃
That is a banyan tree! They are amazing. There is a giant one (or many within one) in the center park of Lahaina, Maui.
Absolutely Beautiful!
Takes me back 😀 cool!
Glad you enjoyed it, Rocky. It is a drive to remember, when did you go?
@@CaliKim29 Hi. We were lucky to visit in 2008. Wow 11 years ago. I think we should plan to go again soon 😀
Wait whaaaaat . .nice video (1st btw 😂😂😂)
Awesome, thanks for being first! Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this. We are going next year!
You'll love it, Sally! Maui has so much to see and do - have a fantastic time!
Wowoowow! Amazing
We also made the mistake of driving back through the backside, but it was already dark and we could only hear the waves crashing below cliffs.
How many miles is it just dirt road?
Wow!!!
Thanks for enjoying the views with us, Johanna!
We plan to do the Full Loop from bottom and up. Plan is Sunrise Viewing at Haleakala, then head south so the passenger will be facing the Oceanside. Not sure if we could complete the Loop if we're descending Haleakala at 8-9am. We'll probably reach Twin Falls late in the afternoon.
Glad to see how much space actually at the dirt road portion. Specially with the tow truck and your Jeep.
Beautiful☺
Glad you enjoyed it, Shirley! Thanks for watching!
I always watch and enjoy your videos. I need your opinion and or advice on this....I'm getting ready to plant scarlett runner beans. Several websites and my own nursery says that they are poisonous. What is your opinion on this? I know you grow them and talk about them. Please and Thank you.
Hi Shirley, like most beans Scarlet Runner Bean contains small amounts of a toxic substance that when consumed in large quantities raw can be poisonous. I've eaten many, many cooked Scarlett Runner Beans with absolutely no issues, (they are sooo good). I always encourage viewers to do their own research before making a decision. If you are in doubt, just don't consume them raw. They are highly productive and my favorite bean, they'll always have a place in my garden.
Thank you very much Kim
Shirley, I've done a lot of research on them recently. Like many types of beans they have a toxin that you need to be aware of before consuming. They are fine to eat raw when they are small immature beans. But once the beans fill out and they are approaching about six inches in length they need to be cooked before eating to counteract the poison. If you eat them without deactivating the poison they can cause severe gastrointestinal distress.
Hey Kim!! I live in Halifax Nova Scotia as you know and I’m honestly scared for this hurricane! I’m dead centre of where it’s going to hit so that sucks!! Wish me luck!
Did you guys drive around the island? How long did it take with the stoppings and hiking? Do I have to bring a GPS?
a friend told of the time he and some drove to hana and it rained so they had roll up all the windows. all of a sudden one of his friends barfed. lol.
Thanks for sharing your trip. It’s even more beautiful than I remember it. We traveled that road in an Altima 😩. I knew less than 10 minutes in that I would definitely rent a 4x4 when I visited again. My poor sister was popping Dramamine like tic tacs. 😂
Just went to Maui and did all these road trips. WHY are the roads in Maui the best anywhere you will ever drive except for the 1% of super critical roads on both ends of the island that go from brand new fresh paved 2 lanes to this ATV path? Is no one else wondering why in the world they would do this? It is twilight zone super bizarre and mysterious.
Do you recommend this journey for a solo female traveler? I'm quite conflicted. Is it worth it if I shouldn't hike alone? Thanks. Theres no way I would take that back road especially alone, yikes. I'm also not into rushed tours.
Try the guri guri when you get back to Kihei.
We are home now, Corey, but will definitely be back. Thanks for the recommendation!
BE CAREFUL
We were very careful, Lucy. Jerry took it slowly, I was too nervous to drive, but did the filming in the car. Thanks for enjoying it with us!
I love the colors of the houses. Where I live it's all earth tones.
Yes, Judy, the bright colors are lovely. Thanks for enjoying it with us!
my bf and I are going next year but we are not experienced drivers in mountains lol tips?
Watching the last few minutes was enough for me to say NOPE.
Great video. We'll be visiting Maui for the first time next month and I have been trying to decide if doing the full loop was better than doubling back against traffic, when we reach Hana. After watching the last five minutes of the video, i'm still not sure if doing the full loop is more or less stressful?
Hello Chad - you’ll love Maui! The part of the road past the Pipiwa trail to the upcountry is where the road gets the most dicey and is mostly unpaved. As long as u take it slow and it’s not raining - it’s doable. I definitely wouldn’t suggest being on that portion of the road if it’s raining or on the road in either direction after dark. Have a great trip!
You were the smart ones leaving at 5:00am. Advised two sets of honeymooners but they ignored my suggestion. BTW, at one point “Road to Hana” was rated the second best scenic drive in the country.
Hmm this video did not do justice yo Road to Hana.
Amazing husband
Yes, he is, Diane. I am blessed! He did an amazing job driving on the windy Road to Hana. Thanks for enjoying it with us!
🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
And semtember 19 i will grow peas
Tell me the truth, are there scary places … cliff roads, on the road to Hana?
No need to honk your horn so much if you're here next, seen as very aggressive 🤙
he was honking the horn for blind corners on the road dum dummy! if you drive you should know what that means
