    Super useful bit of CPD :) The whitegoods one is really nice. I think one thing these are all struggling with is defects and subsequent replacement. Not sure whether any of them can be pulled out without having to re-plaster the ceiling. Thanks!

      I’m glad it was useful. I agree about the difficulty replacing them. That’s why I now prefer GU10 lamps over light engines as at least you can easily replace the lamp.

      @@eleanorbell - We are going for Mr. Resistor down lights. Hopefully we can find some which aren’t glary, has a wide beam angle and are dimmable.

      @@pmanu21 Shouldn’t be a problem, it is down to which light bulb you choose. I hope you are pleased with the result!

    Soft knee dimmers are a pain. Ditch the dimmers and have a couple of bulbs in colour and out put.

    Thanks for this. Really good video. Glad I found it as I'm looking at getting this type of light fighting installed. For the extention it will go straight onto plasterboard before skimming. But in the other rooms it will go into an existing celeing that's already plasterboard and skimmed/painted. My plans are to get the celeing reskimmed anyway.
    Do you think these will be OK for that purpose. Thanks and I really enjoyed your other videos as well.

    • @eleanorbell
      @eleanorbell  Před rokem +1

      Yes that would be fine if you are reskimming the ceiling.

    Hi, lots of good into. I was wondering if you've ever heard of and/or used Lucent Lighting trimless downlights?

      Hi Logan, I haven’t used their lights before so don’t have an opinion on what they are like. Glad the video helped and good luck with your project.

    hi Eleanor, thanks so much for your useful video!
    Unfortunately we have very bad experience with our existing trimless downlights now.
    The GU10 bulbs are burning out but we cannot take out the inner fitting to change bulb without damaging the finished plasterboard hole edges. Do you know if there is any special tool that we can use in order to get the bulb down? My home is becoming darker and darker now :(
    Thank you in advance and looking forward to your advice.

    • @eleanorbell
      @eleanorbell  Před rokem

      Hi Lau, yes you can buy rubber suction tools which attach to the GU10 bulb and enable you to twist and release them. If this is not possible with your lights I suggest contacting the manufacturer.

    Hi, great vid. I’d like to ask, can I retrofit these? Thinking of filing away to accommodate the perforated plate and then use filler instead of plaster to smooth over and paint

    • @eleanorbell
      @eleanorbell  Před rokem +1

      They are designed to be fitted onto plasterboard before you skim the ceiling. Peeling off existing plaster might damage the ceiling so it may be better to get someone to reskim the whole ceiling afterwards.

    Hi Eleanor, I was thinking about going for these rimless lights. but I was concerned the light dispersion would be reduced due to the deep recess etc.
    Is this something that is a problem?

    • @eleanorbell
      @eleanorbell  Před 3 lety

      I haven’t found it to be a problem in the installations I’ve done. There is still a good wide pool of light beneath each fitting. If you go for a downlight which has a GU10 bulb, you can always change it for one with a wider beam angle or higher lumen output.

    Great video! What size downlight would you choose for a 12 by 12 foot room I want 4 in the corners only. I was looking at Astro but they are 85mm diameter or more. So confused.

    • @eleanorbell
      @eleanorbell  Před rokem

      The size / look of the downlight is down to personal preference. What makes a difference to the light output is the brightness and beam angle of the light bulb.

    75 -90 £ PER UNIT plus bulb...insanity!
    Lovely presentation though.
    Sounds like you have clients with bottomless pockets!
