Love all Rapid Set. I use it and swear by it. Folks, this will NOT make your house a boat. Insane is the all of human existence that ignore downspouts properly running away from the house. All roof water needs to be 10 feet away or piped away. I make my living in this concrete type work, but it’s always the ignorance of roof water gutters downspouts and gravity. Now top class builders run the downspout down to the foundation and walk away. Ignorant. The roofing and gutter guys run it right down to the side of the foundation and walk away as if it’s job complete. That is building with cancer. Never finished the job. New learning but it is stupidity. New fix boys like this, ignoring downspouts running the roofs water 10 feet away from the foundation. NEVER NEXT TO IT. This will not make you house a boat. Make sure your downspouts and your gutters are all properly working for the amount of square footage on your roof. I see so many houses the new next homeowners eliminate a downspout is if that would save them money yet three or five years later their entire concrete back porch is sinking 7 inches and they have no idea how it ever happened

Rapid set has a mortar/cement repair that uses hydraulic cement that I've been using when parge falls off and it's worked well. This is good if it works the same as hydraulic cement
@@jasonstefon With corporations in a hurry to get products out on the market with minimal testing I've seen many items that didn't quite live up to the hype. I would love to find out it worked and worked well over the long haul.
This is a really cool idea. So dont take this as me bashing in any way. This may work well with a wall that has a slight seep every now and again. But if your basement walls has visible moving water or pissing when it rains, you will be better off digging it up, setting rigid tile under floor level. Then seal and place a membrane between the wall and clean rock. Its the only method I've ever had success with a leaking basement. Got to get rid of the real issue, the hydraulic pressure. You dont patch a swimming pool from the outside! But this technique definitely has its uses for sure!
Well that was a fabulous video. And I know how much work you went to to Norder to put that together just great. I wish I’d seen that before I spent $14,000 waterproofing the walls of my house. The way you did it I probably would’ve spent a couple of hundred. Where were you when I needed you? Great job.
indeed it sucks that you spent 14k, well that is why i tell folks, spend time on educating yourself and you will be better off in life. However everyone's situation is different. In your case it's possible that you may have actually needed that 14k of repair.....
Hopefully you sealed the foundation from the outside by digging all the way around which is the proper way. This method will do more harm then anything else trapping water in the foundation deteriorating it until the pressure is able to get through which it will eventually. Never seal the interior unless the exterior is bulletproof or completely waterproof , or the bill to fix the damage will be much more then 14 grand.
Great video about what looks like an amazing product. Thanks for going thru the needed steps to prep & apply. Dryloc alone failed in my application after a few years. Now that I’ve addressed slope & exterior drainage issues, I’m gonna give this product a try. Like one of your other commenters, I’ll be applying Dryloc primer & topcoat on top of the two coats of mortar. Yep, it’s a belt & suspenders approach, but I’ve never regretted “overbuilding”. Your straightforward presentation style has made me your newest subscriber.
Very good to know. Might be useful in the future. It doesn't solve the problem in my basement, though, water comes in through the windows if it rains too hard.
Very good job !! At least will stop flooding in the garage , my garage have been flooded with heavy rain , it was leaking from the wall , I will try to this method !!!!!
I wonder how this would work as the initial coats when doing a concrete counter top pour using a mold. IE. line the mold with it before adding the rest of the concrete countertop mix and those coats would act as the top/edges of the finished countertop. Then you'd have a waterproof countertop.
Dude .. epic video like always .. you sir , have a gift for this ., thanks for always sharing your tips n tricks n fun rapid set projects .. plus damn love that music background .. 🔥
Michael, I understand all the negative comments. Water in the walls will expand and create new problems. Outside is the way to go. If you can't get outside my opinion is this may work for awhile. You're still my favorite on CZcams! Just did a firetable like yours. Combined 2 of your videos to get what I wanted
Great experiment & great video! And a little lol on the microfiber roll. I think it'd be a bad idea for the same reason you HAVE to wet the wall before applying. It absorbs and retains the water from the mix. ;)
Wow !!!!!!! Great video. Excellent attention to detail. Explanation clear and simple. Can't wait to try this product. 👍👍👍 Bravo. BTW.. Can u parge exterior walls with this product???
The pressure at the bottom of the tube is the same regardless of diameter. A 6' tall drinking straw will have the same pressure at the bottom as a 6' tall 6" diameter tube. Looks like a great product. Thanks for the video.
I’m going to try this on my aging concrete rock water feature/fall which has cracks. Then maybe I will paint it to make it look like real rock again. The issue is the hydraulic cement is very brittle and cracks again and is expensive and flashes dry too fast
This stuff is probably slower to apply than Behr deckover. It's like pushing pudding or cottage cheese with a roller😓. I'm sure it is a great product. Thanks to you and your videos I have been able to convince my tightwad boss to spend a few extra bucks and have had great results. Thank you for your content.
I wonder, if you have a leaky basement, will this only delay the inevitable -- will the wall being saturated begin to deteriorate? If you have a block wall, will the concrete blocks begin to fail. I was always taught waterproofing the exterior is the only way to maintain a dry basement. 🤔
This doesn't work well on interior walls. the pressure of the water is pushing the compound away from the wall. It will eventually fail. The best way to stop this is to landscape your yard so the water runs away from the structure.
Great vid! Highly skeptical of the product. I think most are going to have high expectations without understanding what thre product will actually do. Water must be managed, you'll never be able to control its penetration 100%. Relying on a single approach, especially an applied on product, is a recipe for failure
the test should have been tested with all sides sealed. water will always find the path of least resistance. paint would have given the same results but im going to try this product on exterior cracks in a wall going into a bedroom
Heeeeyyyy! Michael!!! 😘 Dude! I want that Micheal Builds 5 gallon Bucket!!! Are you gonna add it to merch? Lol 🙏😁 I wonder if you could use this stuff to waterproof a shower wall before tiling it?
My neighbor with his million dollar house had a complementary shed made from the same materials as the house in his back yard. He would never touch a tool if you held his feet to the fire. He tore the shed down to put in a play set. I think his kid played on it maybe twice.
Great video. My basement walls are not as nice as your in-laws. Can I put this over previously drylock covered walls? I assume I will have to scrape and prepare them. The walls are very crumbly. Any advice for that? Thanks again.
I am assuming that since you did this on your in-laws' basement, you used the best you knew to use (you mentioned Drylok at some point in the video). How did it last? I am rehabbing a 120 yo theater in a small town and...there's a lot of stuff to do. I have a cellar that needs some waterproofing love. Next video watch: Water Stop! Thanks for putting these out and don't forget to tell me how that basement wall is holding up!
Very cool. Can you use it on floors? Also, if there is paint on the walls do you have to remove it? We have a very wet basement and I can't tell if it's coming up from the floor or through the walls.
Michael I'm going to build a kitchen counter top with concrete and I would like to know what I can use to seal the top of the counter top that is food safe
Love it, I wonder if you coated the whole of the test block if the water would remain in the cylinder. Since water follows the path of least resistance, blah, blah, blah.
Four about 18 years I’ve been using acrylic add mix( milk looking product) Mixed with Phoenix cement in like a thin milk shake consistency. This is for artificial waterfalls And ponds built with concrete and mortar. Have yet to ever have any water escape from a pond Coated with this. I think for a gallon of acrylic add mix it’s about $20 but it goes a really long ways. I just brush it on Using cheap $1 3inch brushes. I say cheap brushes because you cannot clean this mix out of the paint brush.
@@MichaelBuilds I spent hundreds of dollars on DryLok and other brands. Best choice was just to sell the house and move to Charleston South Carolina with no basement!
Tilt-Up basic concept: frame, reinforce and pour a foundation on top of your recently poured foundation. Then stand it up with a crane and now it is a wall. repeat 4X.
Hi.. do you need to create an edge ( concrete triangle) between wall and floor as extra protection since this is a weak point for water to penetrate inside.. then apply the product

Unfortunately, I have not had a great outcome with this product applying it to a below-grade interior block wall, I have had to reapply to several areas due to the block being sour porous. Differently recommend mixing in small batches, the 30-minute working time will leave you with a bucket of wasted material. I plan to apply Blue Max over the top of it.

indeed it sucks that you spent 14k, well that is why i tell folks, spend time on educating yourself and you will be better off in life.
Gorilla patch and seal patches and spray
I'm going to try this on my restroom drywall to get that concrete wall effect and see how that goes 😅 👌
Very good job !! At least will stop flooding in the garage , my garage have been flooded with heavy rain , it was leaking from the wall , I will try to this method !!!!!
im glad i found your video. i built a tilt up house and am looking to waterproof the walls
Thank you so so much! 😊
He should definitely do some work on the land to minimize water hitting the foundation
If you had a show on HGTV I would watch every episode!
Awesome. I was just thinking about trying that out and I thought I’d check CZcams and here we are . Thank you
Thank you
I think this is what I need rigth now ! Thank you very much .
Very good presentation.
The pressure at the bottom of the tube is the same regardless of diameter. A 6' tall drinking straw will have the same pressure at the bottom as a 6' tall 6" diameter tube.
Looks like a great product. Thanks for the video.
i was looking for something to waterseal my son's basement. thank you
I’m going to try this on my aging concrete rock water feature/fall which has cracks. Then maybe I will paint it to make it look like real rock again. The issue is the hydraulic cement is very brittle and cracks again and is expensive and flashes dry too fast
This is incredibly useful info!!! Thanks!!! Can't wait to see the new shed!
nice demonstration
Do u have to do the outside around the house as well to keep water from coming inside the bricks and breaking them down from the outside?
this video deserves an award. the edit, explanation and presentation A+
You’re freaking awesome. Not only did you show us nut you proved it works.
More videos please! It’s been a month! Maybe you could do a video with Mark McCullough, from this old house. It’d be a blast!
I would love to see the test vs dry lok
This stuff is probably slower to apply than Behr deckover. It's like pushing pudding or cottage cheese with a roller😓. I'm sure it is a great product. Thanks to you and your videos I have been able to convince my tightwad boss to spend a few extra bucks and have had great results. Thank you for your content.
I have a broken water feature for my pool. This is just what I need. I hope the pool chemicals don’r eat through it.
The best way to stop this is to landscape your yard so the water runs away from the structure.
agreed, this will saturate the concrete form the outside in, it will crumble over time, faster than an untreated wall.
Michael finally sat down to catch up on your vids Great job, especially the test at the end
Love your video!
Not that it matters but Hydrostatic Pressure
Fluid weight (ppg) x 0.052 x height
8.33 x 0.052 x 5' = 2.16 psi
Awesome video!!!!! Great experiment at the end.
I thought you were going to put in flow control, but it didn’t look like you needed it.
He mentioned the flow control at 4:34.
@@probablynot1368 Ah - missed that. Thanks
OMG I SO NEED THIS PRODUCT
Great vid! Highly skeptical of the product. I think most are going to have high expectations without understanding what thre product will actually do. Water must be managed, you'll never be able to control its penetration 100%. Relying on a single approach, especially an applied on product, is a recipe for failure
Try adding color to the mix and flow control
Maybe it can be used as a resurfacer for out side stuff
Perfect perfect video
Work perfect for me
Thank you sir
You save me thousands of dollars
I wonder if this could be used on basement floors as well?
Good job...Im sold just got of the phone with homeowner
Test it by making a shower or other water feature
You say prep is very important, clean no paint but what do you do if your walls are painted???
the test should have been tested with all sides sealed. water will always find the path of least resistance. paint would have given the same results but im going to try this product on exterior cracks in a wall going into a bedroom
Heeeeyyyy! Michael!!! 😘
Dude! I want that Micheal Builds 5 gallon Bucket!!! Are you gonna add it to merch? Lol 🙏😁
I wonder if you could use this stuff to waterproof a shower wall before tiling it?
Heck ya I’ll take one too ! 👍
I’m not sure but I don’t see why not. I would ask the Rapid Set guys first tho haha. I should totally sell Michael Builds Buckets!!! Lol
@@MichaelBuilds I would totally buy a MichaelBuilds bucket! 😁
My neighbor with his million dollar house had a complementary shed made from the same materials as the house in his back yard. He would never touch a tool if you held his feet to the fire. He tore the shed down to put in a play set. I think his kid played on it maybe twice.
Wow, great idea, great video and info. Thanks Michael!!
The waterproofing is holding up great. And it’s definitely had it’s fair share of bad weather tests to prove it haha
Very cool. Can you use it on floors? Also, if there is paint on the walls do you have to remove it? We have a very wet basement and I can't tell if it's coming up from the floor or through the walls.
Attach some wire lathe to the wall with tapcons or ramset fasteners then apply.
Michael I'm going to build a kitchen counter top with concrete and I would like to know what I can use to seal the top of the counter top that is food safe
Jerry, he has a sealer video that covers all of it! Just search though his videos and you will find it!
Love your videos. You should make a holloween special and make tombstones for yard decorations.
Love it, I wonder if you coated the whole of the test block if the water would remain in the cylinder. Since water follows the path of least resistance, blah, blah, blah.
Great content !
Good job, plus bonus points
….. with your in-laws!
Ok
Ols school ways, too bad that method won't pass inspection here in Cali
What is the best way to remove some surface mold before applying the product?
Might, and I stress "might" slow it down, but if it wants in, it will eventually come through the floor joint.
And that’s why products like these are only meant to by you more time until you can fix it the proper much more expensive way
@@MichaelBuilds I spent hundreds of dollars on DryLok and other brands. Best choice was just to sell the house and move to Charleston South Carolina with no basement!
@@MichaelBuilds You should have specified this.
@@Lotshman nobodies perfect I guess… it’s funny how someone people tell me I talk too much and some people tell me I don’t say enough….
@@Lotshman That is why you watch all viedos'you alsoneed to put a sealent on your basement floor
Cool test at the end.
How is this product working so far? Its raining like crazy in my area, and seepage coming in through basement. Thinking about trying this over Drylok
Is applying it only on the inside a problem if hydrostatic pressure is the cause of the leaks or dampness?
Nice Job Brother! I'm no scie... geologist either, but I think it's about 1lb/ft.
Awesome test.
Tilt-Up basic concept: frame, reinforce and pour a foundation on top of your recently poured foundation. Then stand it up with a crane and now it is a wall. repeat 4X.
👍🏻
Hi.. do you need to create an edge ( concrete triangle) between wall and floor as extra protection since this is a weak point for water to penetrate inside.. then apply the product
Looks like u could use a trowle and hawk to apply then roll in ..
Set and flow control are not allowed but what about cement or mortar colors?
I am digging this stuff !!
Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you! ❤
Thanks!
OMG! Orileclerc! I cannot tell you how SORRY I AM that I did not reply to your AMAZING contribution from a whole year ago! CZcams did not notify me about your SuperChat and I didn't see it until just now while I was stumbling around in my CZcams analytics. I am so embarrassed and so so sorry man. Please accept my very humbled THANK YOU! You have no idea how much I appreciate your support and I'm even more appreciative that you gave me a SuperChat on this particular video because I get ALOT of fellas Trollin' me on this one lol. Again, thank you so much man!
Before waterproofing do you have to clean the walls with etching material.
Can I top a concrete countertop with it to make it waterproof, then sand and polish it for a smooth finish? Can I add a color powder to it?
I'm going to be doing some stone work on my shower, could this be used as a moisture barrier on top of backer board?
I’ll be honest.., I’m not sure 🤔. That would be a better question for the Rapid Set guys haha
Probably better off using RedGard as that is exactly what it is made for. Made to be "painted" onto backer board as a moisture barrier before tiling.
@@MichaelBuilds According to a "Rapid Set Product Expert" answering a Home Depot question:
A: You can use this product to waterproof backer board, whether it's full coverage or in the seams.
