I was hoping you did a video on the spark plug change as well. Thanks for the video

The slow/hard starting trouble you are having can be fixed very easily and it is a common issue on the Maruader. It is NOT due to the battery. It is due to a module called an MMM and you simply need to bypass it. It is THE solution to your problem and poses no other issues. Search for "MMM Bypass on 1999 Suzuki Marauder" on youtube.

The MMM module can often be a problem, but not always the problem. Right now my VZ 800 is waiting for parts which is most definitely a stator/rectifier problem. It died while riding and the battery was dead. Suzuki's are notorious for bad charging systems. It's not always the Mitsuba Mystery Module.

Thanks so much for posting this comment Brian. I've been struggling with this issue for years. I've spent far too much money on this and three mechanics couldn't figure it out.
Now my bike starts every time, even on cold days. Thanks bro! 👍🏻

And Buck, what you've described is correct. There are two issues involved here. The MMM failure causes hard starting, the charging system failing is another. You can test your charging output with a multi meter. If the volts increase when you rev the engine it's working.
At the moment, there's no voltage increase on my bike so a new stator and rectifier on are my bench waiting to be installed. But bypassing the MMM was a necessary first step.
Thanks to both of you for your comments. 👍🏻

I must say I appreciate all your comments cause i recently purchased one and it died the other day when riding after putting a new lithium battery in. I haven’t done the mmm by pass and it does have rough starting. I don’t think it’s getting a charge either

ty for the video .. that dent in your tank triggers my ocd haha .. ty for that, it needed a good jolt to get my preasure up :D .. please use gloves next time .. used motor oil is highly carsinogenic, so please stay safe btw tip for next time when putting on the gasket and cover. get some long bolts that are same size .. cut the head of them .. and insert those so u have a "guide" to put on the gasket and ofc hole it while u just slide on the cover and replace each headless bolt with a normal one

Dude! I'm pretty sure I have your old bike! This isn't some spam, look at this video, look at the dirt marks on the bottom of the radiator. Still have the bell in the same spot, and as I'm watching this I just saw I think I still have the same wix filter on the bike. It's pretty crazy! Just put up a video showing the bike. Let me know of you think it's your old bike.

Did you have any symptoms besides the battery not staying charged? Like misfiring or surging? I’m doing the same repair on a friends Marauder this week.

What did you end up up with for the issue? Was it this as well?

@@kainsasseville2096 it just wanted to die. I can’t really remember. We had another friend who got it running…ok, but it never was just right. He eventually sold it at auction. He didn’t come close to recouping his money but somebody else has it now and hopefully they can give it what it needs. Thanks.
