Anyway, I stumbled across this video while researching a possible fix, watched it and thought that just might be my problem. I am a mechanic, NOT an electronics person, but tried it anyways. Had to watch the video a couple of times (must be senility setting in) especially around the olm testing of the pot, once I had mine apart, you're explanation made it easy to understand. Tested out @ 825 ohms, took it up to 1325 and ran three CD's through it with out a problem. Thanks again, your FAN !!!!
Wow. Thanks. I followed your advice, reset the laser cleaned up a lot of gunk from the tracks. It stopped making weird noises, seems like it's going to work, but it doesn't start playing. Thank you very much. I know this video was posted about three years ago, but it is still very helpful. I have the exact same model, made July 1999. Even though mine was not a fix (I've ordered a replacement part for the optical laser head and mechanism). I would've not have been confident enough to make the repair without this video. I took my bose apart and put it back together about eight times last night attempting to repair it, cleaning the rails, and adjusting the potentiometer. Here are some points that might help someone else attempting the same. There are four silver 'biting head' screws and one silver machine screw that need to be removed from the outer housing to detach the top part from the bose. The machine screw holds the antenna in place. Once the two ribbon cables have been removed from the top part to separate it completely from the rest of the housing, only the four long black screws (along with the two clips) need to be removed to separate the circuit board from the outer housing. They are the three along the back, and one way in the front, in a circular cutout. at a lower level and easy to miss. The circuit board is a lot less wobbly with only those four screws removed. Once the outer housing is removed, the two inset grip pieces can be gently pried out. This makes it easier to move it around and they do not need to be replaced until you are done. In fact, no harm in forgetting to put them back on once everything is back together. They easily snap back into place from the outside. The two small speakers do not need to be disconnected and I'd avoid unplugging that thin ribbon cable like the plague. I did not disconnect it and was still able to flip over the left keypad to access the CD housing. You only need to remove the cover of the CD housing to clean the rails. Once they are clean, you can access the potentiometer with the CD housing cover still in place. A time saver if you are doing multiple adjustments to the potentiometer like I did. My potentiometer was initially spot on at 1k ohms. I went up from there to 1.25k ohms and 1.5k ohms and even higher. I also went lower 0.5k ohms, 0.22k ohms and even zero ohms. The max range of the potentiometer appears to be about 2k ohms. I used a 2mm slotted screw driver and a magnifier to make the adjustments. Be sure and mark the original placement like Ms. Lisa suggested. In the end I returned it to the original setting. None of the adjustments significantly improved the CD on my bose. I think it is just done for. thanks

I repaired a CD hinge that was broken off using gorilla glue and a hack sawed tent peg with the same diameter as the hinge. Opening up the Bose is intimidating. Your video walked me through getting inside the case to do the repair. Thanks Lisa.

This gal is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Follow her directions and you can't go wrong, I found that the rails were cruddy, cleaned them and used graphite grease to lubricate them, Works like new now.

I've got an old Harman Kardon stereo receiver. It's from about 1983. It gave me the smoke show. I'd love to have you repair it. ( sounds like an electrolytic capacitor went pop). I also have a Hitachi receiver from 1982. Dead channel! I've got a bad habit of collecting this stuff. My 2001 Bose wave radio does the same thing as this system you're working on.
Thanks for the video. I think I've found a diagnostic shortcut - after the reassembly, when you tested it. I saw that you tilted it forward for us to see the display, and then it occurred to me that it might play when laid on its side. I reasoned that if dust was the most likely problem, then by placing the unit on its right side then gravity would assist in moving the laser carriage. Sure enough, it did, and the clicking stopped and the CD played normally. So now I can decide whether to disassemble and clean and lube the rails & gears. What would be best - a non-oily teflon lubricant such as Tri-flow?
Thanks for the video! Quick question, does the potentiometer separate the current that the laser and motor get each? Or am I completely lost lol, based on my inference from my issue: Mine ended up having a gunked up everything and the pot was also set to single-digits. After those two fixes, it now can play through a whole CD no problem except getting it to actually start. While previously it spun up just fine but didn't read anything, nowadays it quickly tries and assumes no disc. It looks like the disc is now slipping and won't spin up enough to be detected. I have to pre-spin and try multiple times until it catches one time, then wait a few seconds before I _quicklystopstart_ and then it works just fine. Having the disc previously spin up but now unable to, leads me to believe there's not enough power for both.
I have a Bose acousticwave cd 3000 and the bass is barely noticeable. The treble/highs are so high that after a while I get terrible headaches. Plus, the CD lid had to be opened and closed several times while holding the black circular lid sleeve up so the disc will play. Can you adjust and fix that?
Hi Lisa once more greetings from the Isle of Man I finally removed power supply card today after receiving a packet of .5 A fuses from China and discovered the fuse associated with the Transformer also appears to be blown .25 amp one, also I can’t get any continuity on the transformer secondary socket given the transformer here will be for a 240 supply what is the voltage of the secondary? As it is looking like I might have to find a substitute transformer? I gather the transformers were not the best! Many thanks for your kind assistance Regards Phil
Okay, thanks for the great informative video, I was able to take it apart and reset the pot screw and yes it took a few times to get it to the right setting, I had to go a bit higher than 1.30 Kohms, ( 1.38kohms) but I did get it to work playing the CD again, although it is intermittent. Load it up, press play , its fine, change CD, then doesn't want to play I did add some lube to the rails and the gears, which made it a smoother operation, cleaned the lens with some alcohol and a q-tip, wiped clean with a kim wipes. Its a no. 00 flat tip to adjust the pot screw
*Update* couldn't let it stay that way, took it apart again, I decided to set the pot screw to a midpoint between 1.00 ~1.30 K ohms, ( 1.15k ohms), popped a CD in ( RUSH 2112), and it sounds so beautiful, scans, starts, plays, skips to songs, just perfect, I owe you a $20
Had chatter and not reading the disc, but after adjusting the potentiometer to 1300 ohms, it just spins for a sec and then nothing. Seems like it's not even recognizing there's a disc.

Some Bose units have a touch feature that you can turn on and off your unit by tapping the area right above the lcd panel on edge area (centered) on the lid. The model # is located on the back or bottom of the unit depending on the unit.
Hello Jose. Have you tried other CDs as well and still getting the same results? If so, could be numerous possibilities and without the unit in front me to get a proper diagnosis I only suggest the following: if you are getting the same unreadable results from other CDs than try cleaning the optical lens. There are CDs disks out there for that job. If that doesn't resolve your issue, you can manually clean the optic lens. But you gotta be carefully not to scratch the lens. I use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. If that doesn't resolve the issue could be the actual optical laser itself.
My cd3000 is doing the same thing. I'm going to reach out to you via email, and get an idea of your service charges if that's OK, and figure how to get my unit to you. Thanks

Hi Lisa, thanks for the how to, when I tested my potentiometer I couldn't get it to read above 0.855. At this reading it wouldn't read discs. So fiddling about I got it to work (mostly) at around 0.740. Any idea why this might be? I had another lens from China that I tested it with and that was also reading 0.74 but this isn't a new part, I thought it was. The whole disc played but track 1 paused briefly twice.
Thank you. I hope my videos are helpful. As stated in my video, the range will vary on the optical lens being used. The potentiometer isnt only factor to the adjustment, there are other components that work on that same line. My adjustments do vary greatly across the units. I have have had readings ranging from .760K to 1.1K it all depends on other factors. A CD has 4 layers to it construction. Older CDs may have thicker polycarbonate layers making it difficult for the laser get through to the next layer which is the reflective layer. So, I use a variety of old and new CDs to find that sweet spot for it work across all of them. Also if the polycarbonate is scratched, dirty or chipped this will prevent the CD from playing properly as well and the optical lens wasn't the culprit. There have been times, there wasn't anything wrong with the optical power, it was just a dirty optical lens and the customers CDs being used weren't the cleanest.
I didn't remove any solder points. I looked at the wide ribbon cables' metal connector and it looked ok. That was the only ribbon cable I removed. Fingers crossed.
I had a CD 3000 in 1994 and should have never got rid of it.. I recently bought a used one off eBay that has a horrible amplifier hum and the CD player won't work

I took my bose apart and put it back together about eight times last night attempting to repair it, cleaning the rails, and adjusting the potentiometer. Here are some points that might help someone else attempting the same.

checked the potentiometer and it was set at 974 ohms, so no adjustment was needed.

I didn't remove any solder points. I looked at the wide ribbon cables' metal connector and it looked ok. That was the only ribbon cable I removed. Fingers crossed.
So I've just been playing a CD, after 4 tracks it skipped so I used 99.9% IPA on a cotton bud and it won't read the disc. Any suggestions?
No way I’ve just gotten one of these today needing a new laser head-they are like £80 for a new laser and the customer paid it! Lol
I had a CD 3000 in 1994 and should have never got rid of it.. I recently bought a used one off eBay that has a horrible amplifier hum and the CD player won't work

i realy like seeing a lady fixing things i ffinaly a few years ago got my wife to see this stuff is not somthing she cant do and she learns so fast thing that me years to learn she pics up in no time wemens movment started good but was high jacked bible says we are all equal man supost to be head of house not to rule but to listen to wife and if he has a good one he will not be suffering bad consequences women is to important to have to deal with that she is shaping the future what is more important than that what job is harder and 24 7 like that who works the hardest so the truth should have been told and appreciated i can't understand how this was over looked back the by the men and why would it take me over 20 years to make my wife understand the importance of a mother of course she can do what i do but can man do her job well theres no way in he__! a wife makes or breaks a family !!

i just seen the five thumb downs bet it was men that are to ignorant to fix anything and think them selfs over instead of equal partners if they would just quit this foolishness they could see how good there live could be i have no worrys wife takes care of every thing i just do what i am told and happy to do so there is no food i can eat in town now women like to take care of things so dont think you are better becasue your not women are so good at taking care of everything set back do as you are told and give it a little while for her to make a few mistakes and she will soon shine and you will be a very happy man you man are responsible for all decisions you being head of family dose not mean you are boss it means you listen to your wife and if she knows god she will always make a better decision than you if you can make your wife understand this you will find love pease and happyness women can also spell unlike most men sorry lol give it a try guys happy wife happy life
