    I've had one of these for 5 years and can't see myself using anything else, to this day it still surprises me with how elegant it sounds. Nearly gigged the life out of it.

    Pulled the trigger on one of these plus the 2x12 a month back. Hands down the best amp I've ever owned (have had a quite few Marshals in my time and still have a Blackstar HT60 and cannabis rex loaded Fender HRD). Incredibly versatile and more gain that anyone would ever need. Also loud as pigs, as its closer to 45W at full tilt and easily can heard over a drummer. The lead tone in particular is amazing, and stacks well with several of me Wamplers, TS808 and Timmy. The only drawback so far is that is is voiced a little dark, which means some LP's will get boomy if you're not careful. My fave feature(?!) is that it sounds great with my strat *and* my PRS custom 24, which is a first for me....Will gig it tomorrow night and update. Quality and finish of this and the solid redwood pine/baltic birch cab are as good as anything I've ever seen. Highly recommended.

      Whoops! Forgot to update, good news I've gigged her twice since posting :) I play in a covers band, doing a really wide range of covers; Foos, KoL, Philip Sayce, Killers, Police, Muse, Hendrix, QotSA etc. The gig went great, with lots of feedback on my tone, especially with the strat (kinman Woodstock loaded USA deluxe with a TS808) Drummer was particularly impressed with sound onstage. The dynamics of the amp meant that by playing with the guitar's volume, stacking with pedals and making small gain adjustments between songs I was able to get close to many of the sounds needed for such varied material. Minuses? As I expected at times it was hard to get the PRS (2004 c24) to cut beyond the dance floor so this amp may make me revert to gig just my strats until I find a way to dial it in for dark HB's. Stoked with the V30. Wonderful tonal range for the price with pristine fender-esque cleans and gain to die for. Hope this helps folks.

      Have you tried using the KoKo boost pedal. Guthrie govan- the guy this amp was designed for- uses it to boost the upper mids and cut through the mix. It should allow you to brighten up the amp enough and cut through your bands mix with HB.

      How do you set this amp up. I have the amp but to me it has alot of warm low end in the distortion. Kinda Soldano in tone. Is yours like this?

    I was interesting to see where the BMT setting were during the play through of the track. As others have commented, it is voiced a little dark, but then again, it does show that the full range of the tone stack is usable. I love mine (the only one in Saudi Arabia as far as I know)

    Nice video. But I thought you could've maybe shown some more of it's features such as the power reduction; high and low modes, single-ended mode, wattages etc.

    Just got this amp today. I can already tell it has an upper mids/high focus. It seems thinner in low mode (the opposite of my other amp) im still waiting on my 112 cab to show up before i can really assess it but right now it looks like i may need an eq or haunting mids pedal. We shall see. Id say this amp sound brighter in person than online

    I'm absolutely amazed with this amp, the price is fantastic and that creamy distortion is to die for!!!
    Victory just made me a new fan.... if only I could buy this here in Czech Republic :( Victory needs more distributors across Europe.
    Has a "boo-tique" feel to it :) amazing work.

    How hot this amp goes when you play it for a cuple of hours, especially top of the amp?
    Considering that is pretty small, filled with bunch of tubes, and that there's warning on top regarding the hot surface?
    Sounds great, portable, not to expensive also, but I would like to know about it's downsides.

    • @guitarist
      @guitarist  Před 10 lety +7

      Like any valve amp, it gets warm during use, but nowhere near as hot to the touch as some do. You certainly can't fry an egg on it.

    I've had my V30 for a year now and we've had a mixed ride. Initially I liked the gain but I found the amp to be a bit one dimensional - and I really didn't like that fact that it brought very little character to the guitar being played. In my experience, all the great amps add character to the instrument. I put the amp to one side for a few months but I've recently come back and tried again. What I have found is, the amp on its own is still a bit inert and lacking in character; but if you put a nice drive on the front end - I like the Fulltone OCD - it suddenly brings your guitar and amp to life. Add a little reverb (TC Electronics Hall of Fame sounds nice) and the image becomes lively and characterful. I'm in the studio with it next week, so we'll see how it goes.. As a final thought, it is easy to see why the Kraken was introduced so soon after the initial run of V30 amps.

    • @roba1899
      @roba1899 Před 8 lety

      I wonder if a lower gain setting on the Kraken would allow the guitar to 'speak' more through the amp than the V30 might allow .. man, I'd love to test these in person.

    • @stevecox9871
      @stevecox9871 Před 8 lety

      It may well do Rob. I think the Kraken was revoiced for the reasons I've described. To be fair, these days I run several drive pedals and the amp works well with all of them. It's only when used on its own the V30 doesn't make my guitars sound special like the best amps do.

    • @roba1899
      @roba1899 Před 8 lety

      That is very interesting. I also just read a gear thread that had some guys pitting a Bogner Atma against the V30. A few of the guys said the negative aspects were that it needed separate EQs but mainly that the overdrive was too compressed. Two of the guys sent theirs back. It probably has an initial 'wow factor' but I'll bet if Victory would address and tweak the amp, we'd get a more authentic tone that accurately represents the guitar plugged into it. I wonder now if the V50 is guilty of the same thing ..

    Hi, I'm Livio and I'll have a question,I'm happy with my Victory 30, but I would have less power (not in the clean channel) but in the overdrive channel. Can I do a test ?, and put a 12AT7, 12 ay7 or 5751 instead of one of 12AX7? If it is possible, in which position v1, v2, v3, v4?I also want to replace and re bias EL 34 in place of 6LS, to have a less crystalline and more British soundThank you so much if you can clarify for meRegards and Merry ChristmasLivio

    • @clayy000
      @clayy000 Před 8 lety +1

      Dan O'Flaherty No I don't, sold it for a V40, but I do miss the gain channel a lot, it had that really nice, fusion/shred tone that I really liked that I can't quite get with the V40. But if you like shred and heavy rock stuff, the V30 is super inspiring to play and you won't ever want to stop playing, sadly I haven't had that feeling with the V40 yet :/

    • @danoflaherty1214

    • @clayy000
      @clayy000 Před 8 lety

      Dan O'Flaherty I'd go Kraken if you want metal. The clean channel isn't that great on the V30 unless you crank it, IMO. I like more blues cleans, not very crystal clean cleans

    Can't believe how warm and wide it sounds for its size, has Guitarist put excessive studio tricks on this demo, does it really sound like this?

    • @guitarist
      @guitarist  Před 10 lety +6

      Hi Brian, we simply do a nice production job! The isolated soundbites are the pure, unadulterated amp sound, and in the context of the full track there's just a little outboard EQ/compression/ambience applied to help the mix sit together, but nothing excessive and certainly nothing that drastically alters the way the amp sounds.
      For the record, I've been playing this amp quite a lot at home and while its physical dimensions are small it's got a lot of clout and definition - and, after all, it's a 30-watt amp, so there's no reason it shouldn't have. To my ears, it sounds at its best with a boost or low gain overdrive in front of the clean channel but that's down to personal taste. But no, it's not all smoke and mirrors - it's a nice amp. All best, Jamie

      Eloy C. I'n in the same boat here, my over drive doesn't have as much fuzz as this demo suggests. I'm playing through it's respective cab, a PRS S2 Mira and great quality Fender cables. Doesn't sound anywhere near this. Any advice Guitarist?
