A TEENAGER who was born with dwarfism is fulfilling her dream of becoming a professional horse rider and says it has helped her accept her disability. Megan Gregory, from Croydon, was born with Achondroplasia - a type of dwarfism that affects the growth of arms and other long bones. In addition to this, Megan has a frontal bossing on the top of her head and ‘trident' hands, meaning they all measure to the same size. The 19-year-old spent her school years being bullied but after taking up horse riding and started to compete two years ago, she has new-found confidence. Megan lives a normal life despite her disability, admitting she has “always liked a challenge”.

As a fellow equestrian I take my hat of to her
Love horses Xx same here x
Same x
Love horses Xx don’t take it off on the horse like
I am a horse rider and I have 2 horse chase 16.3 and Folley 15.3 xxxx
You mean helmet😅
Same xox❤🐴
Good for her but I would appreciate less pressure on the horse's mouth especially as an elderly. Poor horsey!
I do agree however with short arms that can prove difficult. 😆
Desiree2401 stop hating
Animal Lover some people sadley dont see that
Oh boy Poor horsey can u stop she is trying her best
The reason shes a bit more heavy with her hands is because her feet don't go past the saddle so the horse needs more direction.
I mean i support her... but can se stop ripping his mouth and whipping him for no reason? Like there is no excuse for bad riding... it just hurts the horse, but she is really brave. I envy her:)
Saga Amalie Bøe-waal i couldn’t have said it better.
I couldn't have possibly put it better, someone will get butthurt most likely but your comment is the truth!
Saga Amalie Bøe-waal it’s a she but other then that I agree
I didnt see her do that once but ok😂
Saga Amalie Bøe-waal I think the whipping part is because her legs are to shout to squeeze or kick to make him go faster
big credit to her mother and father for supporting their daughter, what an amazing young women truly inspiring! keeping wining Megan !!!!!!!!! keep wining
She is really beautiful
Captain Jellyfish Beauty full beauty full beauty full beauty full beauty full!!!!!
She’s even thicker then a snicker and she really pretty
Just because you are different dose not mean you can’t ride horses and I love horses to and people make fun of my nose so they call me horse or horsey
She is beautiful from the inside and from the outside.
Chantal Barnardt thank you x
I’m glad the horse is helping her but really 25 is way too old to be competing. He was in pain when she got on his back and he is very sway back. It would be great to retire him and get her another rescue. Yes it’s time this poor old boy retires, it’s something he deserves.
its not abuses, my first horse was 29 and i was still competing him ❤
hannah anso but Hannah, just because you did it doesn’t make it right. At what age did you stop? When a horse reaches 17-18 arthritis has set in for every horse which causes serious pain legs, back etc.
+gael crane my mother and aunty are vets. honestly if you keep then medicated, fed well, well exixited they are honestly fine!
hannah anso ok I understand if you’re being truthful. Any vet I know would highly recommend against what that kind of activity.
+gael crane we retired him also at 29 😊 and honetlsy fine ahaha we didnt have a sway back or anything! whats ur instagram ill send you a picture of him 😊
Bless you missy.. You are an awesome lady..😍😀
Ok this may seem weird but i was reading a book today and it had a girl in it, and she was kinda depressed so she just rode horses and it made everything better. And now im watching this, and its like " Woah".
Just Don’t horses do that
Just Don’t it’s because horses are amazing animals, the don’t give up and riders don’t give up. You need patience and practice. Horse riding takes your mind off everything besides what you are doing right then and there on the horse. It makes you focus on the horse. It makes you have a connection between horse and rider. It feels like you are flying in the air and you don’t want to come down. How would I know? Because I’m an Equestrian.
Do you know what book it was?
I would like to know the book as well! ^^
@@kyuu-chan7407 the book was called the Son of Neptune
I love how she wants to be different in the world but at the same time I feel so mad for the pony as her mouth must be hurting. She does ride well with a disability always remember thumbs jump, heels down and don't ride with your hands hurts the poor guys mouth.
Your so quick to judge
JingilyCow no it’s actually “your” or “you’re” stop correcting people’s grammar when they are actually doing it right
silhouetica so it makes sense to say “you are hands” ??
@@megancav11 she was referring to the reply “Your so quick to judge” which should read you’re as it’s a contraction of you are.
There’s always somebody that’s got a pick a part someone else’s video
Au au au....au it hurts. Quit pulling!
That's what the horse says!
This horse is way to big for her. She can't balance with her legs so she tries to hold herself up with the rains, ripping the horses mouth open!
She needs to learn how to ride on a pony until she can balance properly!
lynnyfee the pony may be too tall for her but it can carry her weight properly, you have to factor in the height/weight ratio. Read other comments to find out about the reason for pulling on the reins.
lynnyfee she’s a dwarf. She can’t do everything a normal rider can do. So stop hating.
@@sarahsteele6935
So that justifies hurting the horse?
Are personal feelings more important than an animals wellbeing that she supposedly loves?
lynnyfee she not hurting him. And obviously that pony is quite strong
@@sarahsteele6935 Yes, she sadly is (as many many other riders are) but doesn't notice it. The horse is not happy at all...the horse and this lovely young lady would do good in taking some lessons. They're both not in balance, the horse has no collection and she has no stable upper body.
This nearly made me cry...its so inspiring to see someone so incredible to do such extraordinary things and for those saying she is a bad rider she isn't considering she is much smaller than the majority of us and if you listened she had only been riding properly for about 5 years. also with her condition you have to give her credit for what she has done not only learnt to ride well but also rescued a horse and i think its a wonderful thing and it shows that some people like herself are kind and caring towards animals. Thats all i have to say.
This is truly beautiful. Two creatures just doing what they love despite serious challenges, like bosses. I love it.
Good God i hope thats not a harsh bit because she never loosens the reins! You can watch the horse's body language and just tell that he is not happy. Also he has a bit of a swayback and a very large feed belly. She should be commended for finding something that calms her and working hard at it, but I will not treat her differently because of her condition. If you ever read this, please know I'm not attacking you, there are just things you can do differently for the horse's well being.
Catherine Jarrell I was thinking the same. My horse has swayback and big barrel from birthing many foals before I rescued her from slaughter and she’s 21 but I’m a lot more gentle and I do flat stuff
Finally someone agrees
Catherine Jarrell she’s not hurting her horse it’s not a harsh bit the horse is happy so butt out
No no it’s not a harsh one don’t worry I was looking at it
She has short arms
She is Beautiful.. 😘😘😘
😊yeah
I agree 👍
Possibly the most emotional story ever told. I do horse riding and when you are around the horse you feel different, in a good way!
She is amazing
She's very sweet 😊💞
Guys can you all just *STOP* and think about what you are saying, 25% off all these comments are nice people but the other 75% off all the comments are hurtful to the poor girl, yes I agree she should loosen the reins but I think the haters should loosen their hate!!!!! Yes I am an equestrian and she is an equestrian but just because she is a dwarf that isn't the reason she is getting rosettes, those are professional judges and she deserves all the rosettes she got ! Anything is amazing in its own way Xxx
This is bravery, so much love from all your fellow equestrians. This community will always be here for you and do will all your friends and family! BUT, there's no excuse for ripping the horse's face off and using the whip unnecessarily. Someone is going to get annoyed at this comment but there isn't an excuse and as amazing as this story is she shouldn't be treated differently because of her dwarfism, meaning she can take a bit of criticism the same as everyone else.
Jeeze the comments on here are nasty and I'm guessing from young people. As a fellow disabled (though newly disabled) rider, I tip my hat to you, Megan. It is outstanding to see people pursuing and thriving doing things they love under any circumstance, but this is exceptional with your story. While 5 years is not a long time to be riding I can see a lot of potential in you and I hope you keep this up. Thank you for giving that lovely old mare a second chance. I love seeing old broodmares getting second jobs.
The bit she is using is called a Baucher, it's one of the softest bits you can put in your horse's mouth with zero pole pressure and direct pressure to the mouth without any added weight. She put pressure on the bit for about 3 seconds (which is average) and while the horse did open its mouth I hardly think a few shots of her riding is enough to condemn her as a poor rider. The shot of her using her crop, which was a tap, looked like she changed her mind on where she was headed. I've done that before, it happens. Disabled riders often have to rely on extra aids to help us communicate with our mounts. I feel like equestrians jump too quickly on these things now without actually having any experience or knowing whole stories. They just want to feel more knowledgeable or something and it's really sad. I've seen people jump to conclusions on so many para-riders and it's gross.
*Edit. I just read that she used the crop bc her mare was backing into a horse behind her, which is appropriate. You know, instead of your horse going back into someone and potentially getting both of you hurt. Also, why do people think keeping contact = being too harsh on the reins? Depends heavily on the discipline I guess.
_She is a champion in our eyes!_ ♡
she's beautiful! my boyfriend has achondroplasia and it's so nice to see others following their dreams and not letting dwarfism hold them back 💞
We are so happy for you! We're glad that you have found happiness in horses and we love that you are a fellow equestrian!
What an amazingly wonderful story! A very brave young woman with a huge heart.
You are an absolute beautiful, amazing young lady! Your horses are beautiful too! I used to ride and wish I still could. I miss it so much. You are right, there is something about riding horses and having a relationship with them when you ride it's like there's nothing else but you and your horse! You deserve so much respect and I find this to be such an amazing story!

She’s so pretty and beatiful
I am equestrian and I am really proud of her. Round of applause. AMAZING
Horses are amazing! I don’t have the same thing but I do have disabilities and horses have definitely helped me so much. I have my own horse and I’ve been riding for 12 years! My parents don’t know where I’d be without horses and neither do i! Bless this girl! 💗💗
I wouldnt say shes a good rider, not to be mean but you simply cant ride from the bit and be effective, not in english, and not even in western, as for her horse hes awfully hollow in the back and has one heck of a grain belly, Id suggest a better conformed horse for that but I assume she just does pleasure shows and nothing more
Victoria Mason I think I should just add! She is a rescue pony! She has been bred and had many foals in her years! This is why her back is dipped and got a big belly this is also due to Her age! So maybe listen to the story before going into things and over thinking and judging
I would like to add that she has given a rescue horse a nice home, she is well looked after and loved and you are suggesting she replace her!
@@debbiepeter112 not replace, you can have more than one horse, just not all horses should be ridden and worked, just given a happy home
Victoria Mason she has got a good happy home with me she enjoys what she’s doing!
You Just prove like I said in this video that this society does judge and try and bring people down!
She is very happy with me she has regular vet/Farrier/dentist/ Farrier visits all say how well she looks for 25 years old! Unfortunately when she does come out of work for awhile she does become lame and stiff due to her age! Riding her help her stretch her muscles thank you for you for you advice
@@victoriathetattooer7619 Why do people like you automatically think everyone can afford to have more than one horse? Seriously, a lot of people can just afford to have one. She rides her which is brilliant for a horse at that age. What else do you think she should do with her? Get a younger horse and stick her out on a field to get fat, lose muscle and flexibility not to mention fitness because she is not getting the exercise.
I do horse riding and I can tell you her hands are all the way up she has to lower them and also I think that they only gave her second place out of pity because of her disability
Unfortunately as I have short arms and legs as I said in the video unfortunately my arms don’t come down to the wither of the horse
I feel pity for you as your very quick to judge.
Believe me I don’t get rosettes out of pity!
Megan Gregory I don't think you should justify yourself! Well done for your hard work :)
@Sophie 1726 You are very quick to judge. Think real. She can ride a horse, so they would know she's capable and if not, they would probably put her on an easier horse.

Good luck girl - stuff the negative comments, even professional equestrians aren’t perfect! Pandora and you clearly have a bond and it’s clear that the odd mistake from you is accepted by Pandora as she understands there is no malice in your actions (and she can still be a bit naughty and cheeky!). Great to see an older pony still enjoying life, rather than left to rot in a field “retired” - more like abandoned in many cases (so many equines spend the bulk of their life in a routine of exercise, feed, stable, etc then get dumped in a field to “enjoy” retirement, personally I feel they deserve more). Keep going , as you have more courage than many others and I hope you find another pony when Pandora is no longer able to be your partner.

as a rider and life long horse owner, I believe it's unfair to give her first place jist because she is a dwarf. she's not even that good a rider, I've seen actual disabled children ride better and still not win because there was someone netter than them. jist cause your a little person you don't deserve to win for trying something. She rides with her hands, rides the bit and that's why the pony has attitude.
as a professional rider and horse owner i just think comments like yours are what is wrong in the horse world. shes has a very severe disbility, riding a very old horse. taking that into acount and also that she is competing against abled bodied riders i think she did deserve that 1st or second or whatever she got. also, it apears to be a small town pony show, not the paralimpincs, quit being so hatefull
JuhMoskita I totally agree with you
It sad how equestrians put each other down we should help each other.
I’m glad she is doing what she loves.
And glad she’s doing well.
Yea. It's annoying to watch. That poor old horse
@@JuhMoskita I want to agree with you, but they're right, if you want to be treated equally you shouldn't get special treatment. I have scoliosis that makes me sometimes ride sort of sideways, but that should not affect my place in the ribbons. I'm all for her riding, just. . .you shouldn't get special treatment bc of a disability. It's not fair to the other riders.
I believe if she won just because she’s disabled, somebody’s going to think that’s unfair, It doesn’t show how she did in the competition so if she won that award is because her horse and her deserved it, and the judge as well as the other riders and audience thought so too

People are so critical of everything. From what ive seen in the mutiple times watching this video, when it looked like she was leaning on the reins, the horse was tense and looked spookish. She merely applied a bit of pressure to the bit to regain the horses attention and slow down. In the rest of the clips when the horse is relaxed and easy going the reins are slack. Raul Arzate I don’t care that your fortunate enough NOT to have a condition. How rude are you. It’s people like yourself that I most feel sorry for.
I’m not being rude
I never said that she is ugly or nothing bad
Raul Arzate no by you not caring about ‘ones’ condition is is a selfish attitude. In order for anyone to understand about ones Disibility and how that affects them is important for people to understand their difficulties.
Let me tell you something, that's a really selfish thing to say.
in my opinion she is a terrible rider. She doesn't deserve first place just because she has dwarfism. She pulls on the reigns way too much
Yes I know she doesn't need to have first place just because of her dwarfism, but, she's very capable in the judges eyes. And in mine too. I think lots people think she can ride. She also has short arms, which sums up why she has a whip because she probably needs control with the reins too.
Your so inspirational!!! I love horse riding!
good on her! leg contact is such an important part of riding and she's doing amazing for not being able to fully hold herself with her legs
Alexa Lora absolutely voice control only amazing
Geez that bit in her horses mouth that’s horrible chill on pulling it just don’t use a bit dude they are so bad
Kat Monk She has her reins collected, which is how you're supposed to ride when riding english. She's not yanking it just looks to be. Bits are not bad for a horse unless the rider is extremely inexperienced and careless or if they have jaw or tooth problems.
Bit less is just as dangerous and you can actually risk breaking your horses nose. If you use a bit right then there is no problem with it. Just don’t use the crazy ones with spikes and stuff
Sierrah You'd have to yank pretty hard to break a horses nose, they can be more dangerous because you don't have as good of control with certain horses. I don't believe there's a bit with spikes, I've never seen them in all my time and even if that wouldn't be logical as it would just stab at the horses gums.
@@viogieviogie She's kind of leaning on her hands though. I use bits and I noticed it too.
Maura_The_Mango I can kind of see that at some parts, it doesn't look intentional though. It shouldn't bother the horse very much as she isn't doing it that hard at the few seconds she does.
