Honestly it’s pretty obvious that gamefreak never intended to make a cohesive timeline. It’s just odd that they decide to put old characters into new games and say that they’re x years older than they were before, because that just begs fans to try to put a timeline together

Actually they did. Except dumbass fans kept asking for remakes and Gamefreak decided to keep moving the timeline around because of it. If you played Gen 3 and 4. It worked well because both Gen 1 and 2 happened parallel to 3 and 4. it all started getting fucked up when Gen 3 remake happened and they decided to have that run parallel to Gen 6.

The best part is, you can see in Red's character model that Sun and Moon takes place 20 years after Gen 1.

@@timdoe8895 probably a reference to the fact his shirt in Sun and Moon features a stylized 96 on it (similar to sports shirts) which is a reference to the year Red and Green versions initially released.
That being said it doesn’t actually mean Sun and moon take place 20 years later, as that would make red and blue/green 31 years old, when their clearly only in their early 20s.
On a related note, there IS a theory that Sun and Moon are actually in the LGPE timeline, as unlike in their intro in the PWT in BW2, red and blue are only referred to as “previous champions from the Kanto region” with no mention of Red’s role in defeating team rocket. The implication then being the Red and Blue from SM/USUM are actually the older versions of the LGPE npc versions.

Just some thoughts about the Pokemon timelines I've had over the years.
In Heartgold and Soulsilver, Steven introduces himself as THE champion of Hoenn, meaning Emerald cannot share the same timeline as HGSS. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Steven wants Wallace to become the champion, this may be a desire shared across other timelines. This would allow Ruby and Sapphire to share the same timeline as Black 2 and White 2 as it explains how Wallace is a champion in Gen 5's PWT. With that said, I don't think Emerald can be written off as non-canon since it ties into Gen 7. The Battle Frontier theme plays for Annabel even in Gen 7 implying she came from a timeline where she was a frontier brain, and of course the Battle Frontier didn't exist in RS. So its hard to accept which of the Gen 3 games are cannon and just say that even the Original Timeline is split in two. Also in Gen 5, Cynthia briefly mentions the events of the Distortion World, allowing only Platinum to share the same timeline as Gen 5. Finally Let's Go does belong in a corner as the video explains. Its so hard to fit that game to even a new parallel timeline that I'm just convinced Game Freak doesn't care anymore, and frankly neither did I at that point.

I think the best way to see RS and E's situation is to think that the events of Brandon/May conquering the Gym Badges, the League and defeating the Evil Team(s) occur just tiny bit later in Emerald as compared to Ruby/Sapphire. Like... everything in the Emerald timeline happens at the exact same time as the Ruby/Sapphire timeline, EXCEPT Steven has basically JUST left the role of Champion (giving it to Wallace) and the Battle Frontier is at least in the making and is finished and open by the end of the main Emerald plot. Other than that, everything happens exactly like Ruby timewise.

You can make a Timeline out of anything, because everything has to have some sort of Timeline. So that's nothing special. The better question is: did the creators consider the Timeline and thought about it in the creation process. If the Timeline that the fans are trying to reconstruct gets as complex as this one - I think it's safe to say that the answer to that is "no".

thats correct, maybe because they didnt consider it would be a big hit. Many IP's were launched on the game boy classic/game boy color and didnt made it to this date. Pokemon and among other few, were "the chosen ones" maybe with the power of anime (for pokemon that became a boom for it on the west) or maybe tru heavy marketing (what happened to mario/zelda franchise)

      @theflammiferofwesternesse6122 Před 2 lety +4

Granted, but if the devs continually add recurring characters, and even a character like Ingo into Legends Arceus (who was from BW). Then we can also assume, that yes they do consider a linear timeline. The multiple timeline theories are to me less viable than it just being a single timeline, i.e. the remakes are just remakes and they may or may not add to the lore what the developers didn't get to. Game mechanics shouldn't (in my opinion) be considered.

I prefer the simplicity of how the manga does it. It’s all one timeline and there is a definite passage of time with the original characters aging. As far as I can remember, Mega Evolutions are introduced as this cool new thing and left at that. The remakes are also still part of the timeline, but are extensions of the original story. The best example is probably Emerald when all the main cast come together Avengers style.

The thing is, with different timelines that influence thousands of years, it's to be expected that slight differences in ages of normal characters in the original timeline. Because of the introduction of something as influential as Mega Evolution, something like some parents deciding to have a baby earlier or later than they would in the original timeline wouldn't be too surprising. This explains why some characters are in Mega timeline but not in original, and why some are different ages. In fact, it's amazing that they ended up so similar to the original timeline, given how much things should've changed.

Just a correction for minute 6:20
It's not that they come from worlds where the protagonist was defeated. They come from worlds where they were never opposed by anyone. As you battle them they say stuff like "would things have been different in my world if a trainer like you had appeared?". So it's not like the Zelda timeline with a specific line for the defeated hero, they come from timelines without heroes.
Some fans have the nice theory that every single cartridge is its own universe, its own version of the multiverse, and therefore canon. If that is to be the case, these evil bosses that succeeded in their worlds come from cartridges that were never sold or werent played to that point of the story.

Porygon can be caught in the wild in the SwSh DLC meaning it takes place after the events of RBGY/RSE.
Tech is basically confirmed to be advancing, as people now have smart phones instead of PokeGears.
Rotom is now incorporated into more elements of home life through smart phones, computers and more and during SM it's mentioned how they wanted to expand rotoms uses outside of the rotom Dex.
This would place SwSh after SM/USUM.
Now the only issue is which timeline it takes place in.
With no Megas, its looking like the original timeline. You'd expect a region so heavily rooted in competition would use every edge they could to win a battle, so Megas would be used if they existed...
But then again, the game isn't done yet. We'll have to wait and see if Megas are added in a later patch.

They just want to make some Pokemon more accesible (Which is evident in Sword and Shield, since you can catch Trade evolutions and stone evolutions in the wild, which previously was impossible for some Pokemon).

I think Pokemon are just making games in the Mega timeline from now on so as to not complicate the timeline anymore and removing any references is them trying to less complicate it as just a singular game on its own. It makes sense though that SWSH would be in the Mega timeline after SM as the advancing technology is said to be more widespread in this timeline and Rotom tech would be incorporated after the Rotom tech advancements, compared to the Non mega timeline not having as much technology.

And let's be honest, the anime with Ash still being 10 after so many travels is incoherant as hell, so the fact that the games have even a bit of coherence between them, even if they resort to alternate timelines, is something I'm grateful for. That meant that, whatever their names are, defeated Team Rocket instead. But, you might think this isn’t true because in Pokémon Origins, Red picks a Charamander, not a Bulbusuar. But! The reason that Wally is younger in Sun and Moon is because (for unknown reasons) Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire take place around 10 years AFTER the time that the original RSE occur in the original timeline, and around the same time as X and Y. The main characters and Wally are born later and Team Aqua/Magma carry out their scheme later than in the original timeline. Call it a butterfly effect caused by the existence of megas if you will.
The biggest evidence for this is Mauville. In the originals, Watson says he has plans to renovate his small city, but in the remakes, he has carried out his plan. You could make a counter argument and say that in the remakes the battle frontier is not built yet, but it also didn’t exist in the original Ruby and Sapphire.
I also think Let’s Go takes place in the mega timeline. Mina could be 9 or 10 in let’s go for all we know, and 19 in Sun and Moon and that would check out. We have seen trainers younger than 10 before.

Just for my 2 cents, since the only thing really tying gen 1 and gen 3 to the same time is that one tweet, you could easily say that lets go Pikachu and Eevee replace the originals and just take place a few years later in the mega evolution timeline in order to make the sun/moon trial Captain's age fit, particularly considering there are no mega evo versions of gens 2, 4, or 5 they need to tie into.
