      @Dom Wells yeah I did bro and it was the best thing I have done for my djing so far tbh I dont use the stems really and rarely use the sample loop feature but it has made me 10x better at beatmatching as I only do it by ear now because of the 4 decks so much going on, at first the effects was a bit complicated but i have learned and they are so much better because of how detailed they are. If you want to be a better dj from my experience I would 10/10 recommend this controller.
      Also fun to put things on the decks while they spin.

    Great review! I've been a Traktor software user since they were partnered with Stanton (Final Scratch). I stayed Vinyl until Native Instruments went DVS with the Audio 8, and have only used Traktor specific Controllers beginning with the Pioneer DDJ-T1. Being from Serato Saturated NYC, I definitely caught a lot of resistance with my fellow DJs. Until they WATCHED me show them what Traktor can do. I love the fact that NI makes hardware with the tightest integration with the software than any other Controller/Software combo on the market.
    As a turntablist, the S4 MK3 is what I always wanted from NI, especially after playing on Numark's NS7. I've had my MK3 since they first hit the market, and couldn't be more satisfied (except for lack of independent mic input).

      At this point what would you recommend for someone who wants a controller with spinning jog wheels? I've had the s4 1 and 2 and I'm looking to upgrade and I'm kinda debating between the the S4 mk3 or the NS7. I would probably go for the NS7 if I could use traktor software with it.

    Thanks for this video! I have been a long time Traktor user and was considering getting the DDJ-1000 (for mobile addition) but found out the other day one issue for me that you cannot put different fx on different channels! Thanks for showcasing this on the S4 mk3, I sometimes like mixing with 4 channels where I might have have a channel or two on a loop with an effect and not often but it has been something I like to remix with and think that the S4 will continue allow me to do this if I get another controller. And yes yes the form factor! Thanks for a great and detail video. Smaller venues tight spaces I used the Novation Launchpad S with a Traktor mapping or I also use my Native Instruments Maschine Jam with a Traktor mapping. Great mentioning of the Wee-Go, I was at an (non club but was for performing artists) event and the dj was using the wee-go and was turned it out!!!! So yeah just like all art forms it is not about the software or tech but the Artist engaging the audience. A+++ to your video!

    (Can anybody help?) Thanks for the comparison. I bought the S4 Mk3 over lockdown and am really satisfied with my purchase. I've been mixing on Technics for 20 years, and love how it works as a stand alone mixer without needing to plug my laptop in!
    However, I want to use the controller with both the traktor software and my 2 turntables. The layout of the channels (from left to right) is channels C,A,B and D. Channels A & B are the only ones set up to take a phono signal which makes no sense to me, because my turntables are either side of the controller, so i want the channels to reflect the layout - if you follow??
    I've heard you can rearrange the layout in the settings on traktor but haven't been able to find a guide on how to do this - can anyone help and point me in the right direction?

    I got a question: when using the mic, must it be connected to deck C/D? Is there a way to use the mic without occupying a deck?
    I know in Pioneer CDJ 1000, the microphones pretty much has a channel for itself. Can you do that with Traktor s4?

    • @karlnoelle
      @karlnoelle Před 2 lety

      It does not appear so. I was playing around with my S4 earlier and it seems a deck is the only way. My current setup goes out of the S4 and into a small Mackie mixer, which has XLR inputs for a microphone that I can EQ and adjust separately and keep 4 decks for music.

    I love traktor. I use it for over 13 years now. My whole setup and everything is build around it. I do my gigs and all with it. I use two turntables a Z2, X1 and F1 (see my channel). I really missed a controller like this to make myself more mobile. Especially for smaller gigs it would be great. The thing is though, we Traktor users a very, very 'handicaped'. When we step into a booth where we find 'the club standard' setup we can do literally nothing... We have no 'prepped' USB stick. No prepped cue points, no loops, no playlists and look at the hardware like: 'where do I start...?' And this makes the time for me to switch over to Rekordbox. And this means also, the DDJ 1000 so I also can learn how all these, for me totally weird and unknown hardware components work... I really feel bad though. Like stepping out of a marriage... But I have to choose for myself because Traktor kind of holds me back in my development.

      Same here I come from Traktor never cared for the controllers S4 is a nice controller maybe more for younger newbies those small spinning jogs are funny too me gimmick, toyish doesnt fit the original reason for wanting spinning on tables,just dont fit Traktors brand, to me its greed marketing how they come from a controller with no jogs at all to spinning 5 inch jogs.

    • @dxtrs_mnpltr
      @dxtrs_mnpltr Před 5 lety

      Well, same here but in that case all you have to do in such booths is to plug your laptop&soundcard to the club’s mixer then have 1 or 2 Kontrol X1’s to control Traktor..This is actually the standard setup of many Big names in the industry. Then, for other gigs you lash out your Kontrol S4 Mk3 😎

      @filipdee Před 5 lety +6

      And I would definitely recommend DDJ 1000 over S4
      - industry standard size mechanical jog wheels from CDJ 2000 Nexus MK2, wtf on so cheap controller club standard platters from 2000 USD players? Forget that nudging and mixing on that S4 things are same as on clubs CDJs, CDJ jogs are totally different thing, and i dont really see benefits to have motorised small jogs with differnet nudge movement than you have in club on CDJs. DDJ also has same cue / play buttons and same pitch. Player layout - looping buttons, browsing knob, etc (muscle memory works) is bonus.
      - yes you can do different things on Traktor effects, but DDJ 1000 has standalone hardware DJM 900 style color and beat effects, and its really usefull to know how to use them, in most clubs are DJM mixers and you can also combine them with Rekordbox pad effects as bonus
      - headphone output is more louder than it was on S4 MK2, where it was really low in noisy enviroment
      - you dont look like total amateur with small semi-pro controller when in club are CDJs, only because you doent use them. When there are only turntables and you bring this, every CDJ DJ is ok with it, DDJ 1000 looks like, and is, Pro gear.
      - when you move to Rekordbox, you havent to import whole your collection to new update installation, all updates use same collection, not in Traktor, where with every update you have to import whole data. Second thing updates on Traktor had very often bugs so better was to stay away for whil, google number of version with keyword bug and than choose if to update or not or downgrade
      - on RB you have waveform previews a 200% better collection management, trust me you will fall in love with tagging possibilities
      - Traktor will have in 3.1 same horizontal waveforms as RB or Serato, after 8 years of waiting for update from v2 to v3
      - on RB you can export whole collection on single click to USB flashstick drive and use all analysis, cuepoints, playlist on any CDJ player
      - on RB when any DJ comes with his flash stick for CDJs its working, he can use his CDJ drive and play!
      - RB and DDJ 1000 layout and feeling are same as Nexus CDJ/ DJM, so every pro DJ is happy to play from it, i dont know any CDJ DJ who wanted to play from my old Traktor controller
      - last thing that Native instruments has very bad after waranty service, when cue point button on my old S2 stoped working czech distributor told me that only solution is exchange for refurbished unit for 300 EUR, and seller where i bought it told me that its mostly unpossible to open it, take away motherboard and repair it. Half price of whole unit for one button repaitr? Same price distributor told me for service broken USB B port on NI Audio 10 soundcard 300 EUR for usb port. NI custommer support than offered me price 50 EUR for that 1 EUR port.
      So my advice is go in DDJ

I learn Rekordbox but i prefer all the way Traktor. I had before the Traktor S2 and then the Pioneer DDJ-SX. I think that if NI released this new S4MK3 a couple of months before i bought it rather than the DDJ-1000 for the portabillity and also because NI has changed the jogwheels feeling with motor plattern ! $750 is still too much for the S4mk3 for what it really is.
    NI added some gimmicks to the existing S4mk2 but still fell short of making it truly competitive in 2019 which is sad.

    DDJ 1000 by far, its not that big, if you need a club setup the DDJ 1000 is by far the best choice

    Cool video however you are missing most crucial point of DJ controller. Size do not matter in this case because you do not take your pioneer controller to gigs. Which is even better compared to traktor gear that you have to take with you. Why? Because everywhere in the world there is professional pioneer mixer and CDJs already waiting for yuu in the DJ booth. That is the point of using Pioneer controllers. you practice at home and leave them at home. You us dj gear in the club which IS compatible with all your music thanks to Rekordbox. You just take your pen-drive or your laptop if you like. You can take controller to house party which should not be a problem. but for real DJ work you use real DJ gear that will read all your music files no problem. So... in my books DDJ1000 wins. Plus you have standalone mixer with hardware FX.

      I was about to say the same thing. Nice video but the end comparison misses the point. If you use Traktor buy the S4 MK3 like me. If you use RB buy the DDJ-1000 if you can't afford a full Nexus 2 setup, use it at home for practice and when you go to the club leave it at home and use the Nexus 2 gear in the club via your USB.

      I Use the DDJ-1000 for a Perfect Practice and easy to get mixtapes out. If i go to Gigs its 100% that the CDJ2000Nxs and a DJM 800 as a minimum. If a club got no CDJ's and are not willing to Rent i can take the DDJ-1000 for a extra price. And never i had a person look to me wow that i big. People more look and think its a same setup as CDJs with DJM.. So what i think it just looks more Professional then a small controller even if it got the same stuff on it. ... Keep the video's going. i really like them.

      @@cheefr0berts i think most smaller clubs in US got no CDJ's and DJMs like in EU/ NL. Here the gear is in every small club but in US there is more with drive-in djs clubbing and the dj needs to take everything with them. Even lights sometimes. Look at Rick Webb with his Club nights.

      @@KlineGames Sure we have the same thing here in the UK if the club is really small and only there for renting for example. You can use both the DDJ-1000 and Kontrol S4 MK3 without the need for a mixer and/or CDJ setup. If you are making a choice between the 2 you need to take the following into consideration: what you are used to or what you are trying to achieve. If you are used to mixing on Pioneer or want to get used to a CDJ setup go for the Pioneer. If you are a Traktor user then go for the NI controller. That is the simple choice to make. I am a Traktor user so I bought the S4. I used RB recently with XDJ-1000s and thought the beat sync was not very good (RB analysis is not as good as Traktor) and limited creativity (pre-set saved loops and beatjump of 32 beats etc) of RB is just not as good as NI so it didn't make me want to swap. RB as a DJ software is quite new compared to Traktor that has been around for over a decade and has improved a lot in that time. Of course Pioneer is the pro way to go but I DJ mostly at home so it was a no-brainer for me. I am interested what the new CDJ or XDJ will look like as I feel the Nexus 2 is now outdated, especially when you compare it to the Denon SC5000 and SC5000M.

      @@cheefr0berts Completely agree the syncing on pioneer controllers is definitely not as good as traktor. Also the OP misses the point. If you are a playing a 6 hr set all night at a bar and taking requests you are not bringing a USB stick for CDJ's to a club, neither would you want to lug a DJ1000 around. I take my s2 to the bar when im playing a long set, works perfectly and takes up minimal space in teh booth.

    I believe this controller sounds way better cleaner and deeper than pioneer 1000 which sounds bright or too bright for me.. even if traktor has less effects they sound better not talking about sick jog wheels. :) thanks.
