Good observation. I'd further it though and suggest that he lacked character depth that is usually born out of suffering, the kind that Tommy and all the others who fought and survived in the war do. That type of hardness, Michael didn't have.

Michael was attracted to money thats why he stayed with him and his attitude shows that he was not loyal from the starting

Despite how things ended, I really think Micheal would have ended up as Tommy 2.0,
I could see that too IF he survived fighting in ww2 and not before. Tommy's a vet, he's hardened and suffered in a way Michael never did. Michael needed more patience, experience and grit to match Tommy but his character flaws ultimately led to his downfall.
