Xiaomi, Oppo, One plus One they are in no way worse then Apple or Samsung. Their High Speed trains are same quality as the Japanese or French ones
And the example is perfect… most people, especially those for whom prestige and elitism is important, will choose expensive Swiss watches over the best Japanese one… Same goes for RR. It takes generations to build a brand, prestige etc Honqi might be a great car But the really rich won’t care. RR shouts wealth, elitism to anyone. Honqi shouts … nothing… not yet anyway

In the last 50 years, china has copied, in the last 20 years China has improved, and from now on, China will innovate. China will reach the same level and eventually surpass the level of innovation in most fields. They are the best problem solvers. For example, the math olympiad is for young people to solve difficult problems, and only the smartest would have a chance to compete. Since China entered the competition, it hung in there and took the lead (top 3) steadily. In the last 5 consecutive years, the China team has been dominated by the team and individual members (#1). Of course, it is just an indicator but a positive one. Never underestimate your opponent. If you don't pay attention, it can swallow you.

Luxury originally meant something that is so well made, because of the skills, care, time and effort that one puts into it, that it could command an extremely big price tax, although not necessarily so.
I wonder when the price tag started to supersede quality and craftsmanship?
One such glaring example, although very niche, was the badges given to chronometers based on accuracy in the watch industry. As competition got tougher and more 'outsiders' started commanding the top spots, more rules were introduced, which eventually changed the landscape from one of superlative quality to one that was based more on high price tags and 'club membership'.
The RR badge used to represent quality hand craftsmanship, but today, it is expected that a name and past glories alone should define the status of a marque.

Rolls Royce and Bentley are brands, that developed in time. Rolls Royce actually was developing planes, not cars initially. When Rolls developed cars after WW2, Bentley copied the Rolls soon after. Given enough time and gathered experience, especially this day of age, when things move with the speed of light you will see the Chinese cars developers, that actually have the worlds largest production of Electric vehicles on the market, that will either reach or surpass the oldest brands. Your comments are like from those people that have never had sea food, and they will never try it because "they know" its not good.............

@@virgil1981wrong way round. RR built cars originally, before WWII and then manufactured plane engines.
The thing that has always set apart British auto engineering, is innovation. Chinese culture doesn't cultivate individual thought which is why they copy things rather than come up with their own original ideas. Taking these 2 observations into account, Chinese car makers will always be at least 1 step behind, if not more, because RR have over 100 years of experience in engineering excellence. Take the heater controls for example. RR, like other established car brands, use knobs instead of a touch screen so you can adjust the heating very easily and quickly without taking your eyes off the road, whereas in a Tesla, it's very fiddly and unintuitive to adjust with the touch screen. You simply can't tell the "position" of a control on a touch screen like you can with a real piece of hardware. This is where newer car companies fall down. They don't have decades of tried and tested, reliable technology to draw from - witness Tesla's QC and reliability issues.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with touch screens, they have their place, but they are not always the best device for the job.

Hongqi is not leading anything in China, news reporters just like to make news about it becoz it is directly owned by CCP, hire RR designer and design RR-like cars for CCP leaders to mock at China's copycat actions. Hongqi's primary goal is not selling cars/making money, they exist to make cars that bureaucrats ride, and Xi himself rides (when Xi visited the US, the car he used was a Hongqi transported by a plane)
