Come out to Mojave where Cal Portland cement company that operates here bulldozed down thousands of Joshua trees last summer in the foothills of the oak creek Mojave area off of Tehachapi Willlow Springs Road. You can see the parts of them laying dead all over the hills East off Tehachapi Willlow Springs Road. When the Wind Farm that is a mile from my ranch was put in the environmentally conscious energy company Chainsawed down massive Joshua trees that had to be over 300 years old. I agree they need to leave national parks alone! And not because of locals but because of the wild life. I moved to San Diego from Washington state because of the military and I’ve never seen somewhere so densely populated. I’ve lived here almost 3 years here and I’ve NEVER seen a deer, I’ve seen a hand full of rabbits and I’ve seen a ton of coyotes running through the cities because they have NO WHERE to go! They need to protect the park and the nature and wildlife!

Deer in San Diego? lol. I was born there, lived there in the 50s through 2006 and I never saw a deer or an elephant! Saw lots of immigrants from Michigan and I enjoyed walking out to the surf up to my knees, bending over and picking up abalone to walk back 5 mins and pound out to a filet for breakfast with eggs. But those days sure are gone... that's why I became a refugee here in the desert and now I'm being pushed out of here too. We'll all be homeless soon. That's called U.S. Imperialism.

In 2011 i walked across America and ended up in the PNW. Namely Bend. In a matter of about 4 years I watched it get completely overran by Yuppies and a-holes. It started with the AirBNB's and food carts. next thing you know, gentrification architecture popped up everywhere housing overpriced clothing stores and restaurants with stupid names like " SPOON, SPORK,CHOW,CLOTHE,FURNISH...Like something out of "They live" In 2015 I traveled to JTREE and started working with the Park service as a trail patrol ranger. I decided to become a wild land firefighter and moved back to the PNW where i lived up until a few months ago when i decided to pack my jeep and head to Bozeman MT. What did i find? ....a bigger version of Bend. so I moved again to IDAHO. guess what... yuppieville. I gave up and said screw it... I drove south. I'm currently in Sedona but I'm already over it...The traffic is relentless and the amount of sprinter vans and a-holes is too much. I feel like I'm always running away from this crap. I'm planning on moving back to JTREE and working with the park again. Is it too late? I'm an artist, creative, kind, compassionate and CARE deeply about the community I live in. Average locals can't even afford to buy food at the local restaurants anymore, if they can manage to get in. As well people can't find places to live unless they want to have several roommates. These things could be helping the community much better if Joshua Tree was an incorporated town able to enact its own regulations and taxation.

Are there town hall meetings? I'm sure the locals outnumber them and the tourism board greatly. Has anyone tried to organize all the like minded locals to approach city council? I lived there and worked as a ranger about 8 years ago. I'm in Sedona now but I'm planning on coming back to Jtree. I watched the same thing happen to Bend, Oregon and Bozeman,Montana. I lived in a small town called Sisters in oregon and they fought HARD to keep it small town and won. I'd love to get involved if i could. One thing id start with is looking at how many people that sit on the board are from Larger cities or were born and raised in Jtree.

@Tony Fourpaws There used to be a Municipal Advisory Coucil for the Morongo Basin but it was dissolved last year because San Bernadino Board of Supervisors did not renew it. All policy decisions for Joshua Tree and the other unincorporated municipalities are ultimately made by the Board of Supervisors. The major advocacy group that helps to speak for the locals here is the Morongo Basin Conservation Association and they have done a great job in conjuction with some other smaller groups. Some significant changes were made after the moratorium back in June of 2022 but in my opinion it's a situation of being too little too late. We'll see what this potential recession does to the community here but I suspect a lot of foreclosed properties to happen which will only put more pressure on the poorer locals.

Did you go to school here? Joshua Tree…was named so by the Mormon missionaries, coming through the desert on their way to Los Angeles. The Trees reminded them of The lost Israelites roaming in the desert. One tree in particular looked like Joshua raising his hands up praying to God. That’s why the trees are called the Joshua trees. And whether you like it or not, or agree or not, Southern California especially Los Angeles, is the city who’s identity is rooted in Jesus Christ. Why else would Southern California have more Bible colleges and theological seminaries than the rest of the country put together?? Are you from New York? You really need to look into the church history of Southern California and understand why people came out here.
