Can't stand when people say he was a bust , he shouldn't have been number 1 sure but you don't average 21.4 points per game if you're a bust

Yeah but not many men his size are as athletic and well balanced as him. He can slam it in the basket or hit a 20+ ft 3 point shot. Plus they had Chris Bosh, T.J. Ford, and Jermaine O' Neal for a while.

@@blaineturner829 for a bust, he wouldnt be a clutch player wether in a bad or good team, think about it, personally i would have took him 5th in the draft, and taking him 5th would not be a bust for a player like AB

@Dave Wake i know his defense was poor but on One on Ones, he was pretty good but overall he was a clutch player and fun to see him play for moments, but inconsistent but it doesnt mean he was a bad player, on the contrary, i wouldve picked him 5th in that draft

A good, not great, center. Had a good impact, was a decent pro who had some nice moments (mostly for the Raptors) and put up solid numbers before injuries took him out. A little soft but still effective when put in a position to succeed. Certainly many worse number 1 picks in NBA history. Not a bust, not a steal. Hope he saves his money and enjoys his retirement.

in his draft he should've went somewhere like to the 5th overall pick, he wasn't overrated or underrated, he was rated just fine, let's put it that way, overall he was a good player without being a star, like I would have him in my bench whether my team is bad or great

Long time raptors fan so I pretty much watched him from his rookie year up until he got traded.
Clearly had all the skills and offensive tools. Could shoot the ball from anywhere and drive which was a rare skillset at the time, wasn't a bad passer. Not that much different than Gallo except Gallo was slightly better at these skills minus the height.
Unfortunately he was just too soft as a player and a poor defender/rebounder. And clearly not a first or even second option that he played through most of his tenure as a Raptor. You saw a lot of his efficiency dip down when he started to take more shots and play more minutes in which he wasn't suited for.
Also I think he could have been much more successful if he was a bit younger and got drafted later, say 2009-2010 and put in more of a position to succeed. Because this era is a lot about spacing and if paired with a good point guard Bargnani would get plenty of open looks as well as space to take defenders off the bounce and drive. He didn't exactly play with very good teams either.
Being the #1 draft pick set the expectations way too high for him and Raptors tried to groom him into a star. However he was more suited to be a role player, average maybe around 25-28 minutes a game, get you 16-18 points on good efficiency with most of his looks coming from the three. He likely wouldn't have gotten injured and had a longer career if he wasn't playing up to 35 minutes a game and just spotting up from three.
He was a very frustrating player to watch sometimes because he was clearly skilled and talented, but could never quite put it all together.
