    Bought one of these a month ago and, despite having reservations, have been really impressed. Well recorded cassettes, using a decent deck and appropriate bias sound excellent on the We are Rewind. It's far more accomplished than many detractors state with a mellow tone similar to vinyl. I was concerned about motor noise but there is none, I was expecting wow and flutter but it's minimal. Adjusting the azimuth was necessary to get full high frequency performance but this is easy to do by easing in the plastic arms of the lid and removing it. Replacement is straightforward, too.
    As an aside, if you have no intention of using the unit to record, it makes sense to also remove the permanent erase head which might just degrade high frequency on tape, over time. On this unit the erase head is attached merely by a small plastic plug. Refitting is easy, if ever necessary.
    All in all, I'd give We areRewind 9/10.

    Sounds as good to me as most of the standard players from the golden era of the walkman. There probably were better sounding walkmans in the past, but they are not around anymore and this is probably the best portable you can buy today. I do think the sound your getting on this is mostly the tape. I've used a few of those Scotch BX tapes in my Nakamichi and it doesn't sound any better.....but Thanks for the review!

    After all criticism of Techmoan and others I was a bit reluctant to buy one myself.. I got one and I wasn’t disappointed. Yes, wow and flutter is sometimes closer to the edge, but overall the sound is very decent. I do not hear any motor noise, either on cable or Bluetooth.
    I bought a Sony WM 22 before, NOS never used, and even after replacing the pinchroller and the belt, I did not sound as good as this little guy. Also wow and flutter was worse.
    The Wearerewind is definitely the better choice. Just give it a little time to burn the mechanics in. And very important: if wow and flutter gets too much then checking und cleaning the pinchroller and capstan is a must. After cleaning you should not have any problems.
    The WM 22 cost me 200 euros, CLA another 250 euros and it died a few days later with a broken board inside …
    Btw, I tested the output of this device and it’s clearly playing back up to 20kHz if your cassettes are decent. Lucky I have one …

    I have one of these, and I really enjoy mine, except for the buttons on it. I wish that it had a better button design. I'm not a fan of the round window, either. I'd prefer a rectangular wind above the tape. Still, it's surprisingly good for a personal cassette player. I've recommended it to friends & family.

    Is there anyway to identify if you have the newest version of the deck? I am buying one on Amazon but I wanted to have the newer one before I open it.

      THAT is a great question. I assume its on the units shipping direct from WAR now.

    I've run this through a a Rega IO amp with Rega Kyte speakers and it sounds incredible. Not as good as 80s players for sure but nothing will be.

    I hear some wow and flutter too. But honestly after years of hearing digital music whenever I go back to listening to cassettes they just don't sound like they used too when I was a kid. Lot of that could be the age of these cassettes and differences in motor speeds between players as well. To me a scratchy record will always sound better than a warbbly cassette.

    I am having a issue with my cassette player where my earbuds play only out of the left side. If I mess with the cable it will fix it momentarily but I don’t know how to permanently fix this

      Sounds like a wire has come detached at the plug. Unfortunately, the only thing that can be done with the earbuds is replace them.

    Not bad. Not much high end, either, but that could be due to the fact that it's a Scotch tape from the late 70's or early 80's. Didn't hear any drop outs either. Plays nice and smooth, no noticeable wow or flutter. How much does one of those things cost?

  • @MultiWirth

    I must have gotten the first revision then.
    There is audible motor noise even via wired headphones, and some bluetooth noise added on top if using wireless headphones.
    It's not as bad as some may claim, but it's there.
    Also the sound isn't as crips as in this video.
    I even think the "Recording The Masters" walkman sounds much better than this.
    The rewind has slightly better bass response, but the masters has a much better treble response and overall sounds more crisp in the top end.
    Using some new rtm type one recorded on a denon drm 800.
    Azimuth is very unstable on both units.
    I'm constantly trying to adjust the head azimuth but the poor cassette-holder design doesn't even hold the cassette shut in place, so it's pretty much pointless doing those adjustments.
    Compared to even a mid range super slim sony walkman from the late 90s,. it's definitely pretty low end equipment.
    For the asking price, it's hard to recommend it as it's a bottom of the line china player vs. a serviced/self serviced cassette player from a major brand (panasonic, aiwa, toshiba, sony and what not) with way more features and sound quality.

      Check to make sure the tape's record tabs aren't gone. That's what happens when a tape is record protected.

      I've tested pretty much everything I've seen on this channel and my conclusion to most all of it is that anything that is somewhat affordable is just plain bad. I'm really being nice here. To me there's no such thing as "entry level" anything to do with the playback of vinyl or otherwise. And yes, there is a great chance these things will damage your vintage recordings

      @jerryspann8713 Před rokem +5

      @@RecordologyI'm sorry for calling this device garbage. I appreciate that you take the time to test stuff like this. I do hear some wow & flutter, possibly due to the fact I'm used to hearing digital which is independent of motor speed. I did hear it during the strings and piano samples.

    • @jerryspann8713
      @jerryspann8713 Před rokem

      The first part of this video that was previously released the Aiwa device also had a touch if W & F. The Sharp cassette player from the 90s sounded better out of all of them.

    • @lumsdot
      @lumsdot Před rokem +1

      Why not record a constant 3khz note and play that back, maybe that would be easier to detect wow and flutter. Plus also play a computer geneterated 3khz tone as comparison
