been eyeballing one these for some time. cant find any where i live, so im hesitant to order one in without playing it myself. i've been playing a squier bronco with a custom pickup and flats for my bass playing "career" (~10 months), and the rascal is the only bass i've yet to lay eyes on (other than a rick, lol) that has caught my attention. i'd love to hear it with flats, personally.

Tough to buy a bass without grabbing it off the rack - I totally concur, but every reviewer (including myself) raves about the QC on it. I've not tried it with flats yet, but I suspect it won't be as punchy or snarly as the Bronco. I've been playing with the pickup heights to try and get more clarity and less "mudrucker" and found that burying the front pickup down (You'll default to playing off the back pickup because of the ergonomics), and raising the back poles on the back pickup gave me more tonal variety.

@@thedaydrinkingbassistHave you tried experimenting with potentiometer and capacitor values? Might yield you more brightness and/or more range on the tone knob

@@jasondorsey7110 heard that; switching to 250 from 500… my DIY skills are weak in that dabble area

It’s amazing how cheap Chinese instruments have lit a fire in musicians hearts. There’s little to no thought process or effort or care put into building those instruments. They merely CNC and slap them together with any wood laying around. No weight control, barely any quality control, but hey they’re $500 so it’s in everyone’s price range. I personally prefer high quality craftsmanship still. However these do look nice. They made them with the specific intention of you being unable to modify them

High craftsmanship is fine and dandy, but I've had just as many, if not more QC problems, with "American Made" TBH. Thanks for the comments - well said and appreciated...

@@thedaydrinkingbassist this is why I get my own basses built to my own specifications. These companies have only one goal in mind “make as much money as possible for the lowest cost.” This is why everybody’s factory is moving over to China. Those people work for nothing. Simultaneously these bases in all probably cost them $65 In total assembly even after paying staff. It’s a 200% markup on all these instruments. Like I said they look cool. However I think we the people should build our own to our specifications. Then make these companies cater to our specific wants if they want to continue making money on a high mass production basis.
