It's not an actual philosophy. It's a euphemism for "I do whatever I want". Ultimately, though, every supreme court justice does that. The idea is that u don't want wingnuts on the court. If no one can challenge one's decision, then in no meaningful way can they be held to any principles they claim to hold. They stay on the court no matter what, basically. But our politicians have been too busy fundraising to give a damn for decades as we got here. And they still are. MT is a PAC. The warning signs this was happening have been there since 1976 when the court first started rolling back campaign finance law (Buckley v Valeo).

It also says "shall not be infringed" and "right of the people"
Any change to gun laws after the 2nd amendment was rattlified is technically an infringement.
Also speaking from historical precedent "well regulated" meant in proper working order, not the modern definition of "regulated"
