- -Welcome to the Sleep Ranch! We are located in the Northern Black Hills on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border where our ancestors settled and started ranching in 1883.
I (Carson) work alongside my parents, Jeff and Jodi, our ranch hand, Jaques, my wife, Damaris who also works as a nurse in town, and our son Silas! We have friends and family who come along very frequently as well!
We run a cow/calf operation where we summer our cattle on the Black Hills National Forest and winter them in the foothills of the Black Hills. We also have a backgrounding feedlot, and grow alfalfa and grass hay.

Oh, Carson you are a lucky guy! My Great grandson eats with his hands. No more of the mother feeding him. He eats everything. He also needs a bath after he eats. Damaris is looking so good! Enjoy that ice cream

Karson show this to your lady. When my daughter was 3 or 4 yrs old she come to see me for the week end. She beat me out side. Looked , and thought where did she go! I looked at are dog. She was laying there looking in the dog house with a slow tail wag. My daughter was in the dog house playing with the puppies. Hay a good day!

Amazing how fast Silas is growing
He keeps our grocery bill high haha
To water your trees take a five gallon pail and drill a 1/16” inch hole in the bottom. Fill the pails every few days and your trees will thrive.

Great to see you guys are doing well and getting so much already planted. Sure is greening up nicely out that way. We are dealing with DEEP mud and still getting snow up here so its going to be a while longer before I can do anything resembling a garden. Damaris and her rhubarb pie has me itching to go pull some of my rhubarb but I think that too might be a bit premature seeings how my stalks are only about 4" tall! hahahaha!!
The mud does not sound fun haha hope you’re able to get the garden in soon!

Have you seen any sign of bears moving back into the Hills? I’d heard from some friends in Rapid City that they were starting to see scattered sign of them.
Yeah I see scat fairly often and we got one on a camera last year!

WE know how scary that can be . My wife was at wal mart and our daughter was a littleolder than YOUR SON but she got into a circular clothes rack and it took a couple of minutes to find HER

Do y'all have any concerns with snakes around the chicken pens ? Are there any concerns with bears when working fences away from the ranch?
We haven’t had any snakes yet and there aren’t too many bears in the hills
How are the ticks out in the hills
They can get pretty bad!
Clean the exhaust screen on your chainsaw and it won't cut out on you so much.
