Hi All, How do these two iconic 80's sportscars stack up against each other? Which would you have?? Let us know in the comments section!
It's that sound, right? But I really like the 3.2 sound too. The looks and styling are great on the Ferrari too... It really is an amazing car :)
The Porsche (for me) sounds a little similar to my BMW's I used to drive hard. I now have an 86 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, modified a bit, and a 74 TR6. I totally get what you are saying about the 308 vs the Porsche, but with a twist. The TR6 has a great sound, but muted compared to the Alfa. The Alfa is like a go cart due to the chassis stiffener and Koni's, and is way easier to drive in normal traffic. *Read constant road construction in Oregeon*
Now, my input is...buy both! If you can. If not, the Ferrari will be the win. You need to love and be involved at a deeper level for the 308, which will bring more satisfaction.
Tough choice! I longed after both cars as a young boy in the 80's. My fathers friend had a late 80's 328 GTB which was super cool. A mentor friend of mine has a very unique red 400i with all the cats removed. It is awesome grand touring car with amazingly comfortable, deep, thick leather seats and the interior of that car smells like Heaven! Amazing sounds come from that car. I am forever "Porsche 911" at heart, however I have quite a few other F cars I LOVE.... 288 GTO, 250 GTB, Dino GT, 575 M, 599 GTO. I love both of your cars and cannot make a choice either way, so if forced to choose, I would have to take both! The 308 QV is the classic icon of the era next to the Testarossa, and ANY Classic Carrera (especially in white) is just the perfect all around package!
The thing about the 308 is that they made so many of them (a drop in the bucket compared to the 911 though), but if they had only made 1000, or 500 it would be worth so much more. It has everything to be a true classic. But,... that 3.2 Carrera, huh? f
Porsche for the week and Ferrari for sunny week end
Love the way you speak, the words you choose, knowlege you have and observations you make. Thoroughly enjoying what you do.
I love both but I have to go with the Porsche. Porsche has a very special place in my heart. It all started with seeing a 930 turbo that was completely black. I was 5yrs then and I still remember the excitement of seeing the car race past my parents Land Rover. Ever since that day I promised I would have one
Holy heck those are clean engines!
Great video, Franny (and Heidi!)... loved the whole thing and can totally identify with all of it and agree with the final consensus. Tea pot vs. beer stein! LOVE IT!
Having owned both cars you reviewed, for me the 308 was a far more exciting car. It was slow....but it felt fast. One thing you didn't mention was the beautiful noise the gearbox makes when you shift the gear. I always loved the gearbox whine in my 308s . When I went to the Testarossa, I was disappointed that it was gone.
This absolute gold. Your channel is my best find of 2020. Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
Great comparison Franny! Love the sound of that Ferrari...
Isn't that just the bee's knees? :)
Great video. Subbed. Love the depth of information.
You're very knowledgeable about all aspects .. Thank you and great in depth videos
I'm amazed at how clean your 308 engine bay is. Wow.
And as always, great vid content and production. :)
What an insightful and enjoyable review, thank you for posting it!
Heidi and Franny these videos are put together very well. Super informative. Thank you

Great Informative Vedio. Thank you!
This was an awesome video! I love the driving videos!
NickH thanks Nick.
Fantastic video!! Thank you!!
Nice comparison Franny, like always the flow of the tube was A-1 and the mirror effect of the road test was a great touch also well done guy s All the best SoulDave
I love your channel…really among the best. As someone who also owns Porsches and Ferraris, your knowledge and insights are awesome…thank you!
Franny is my kind of gear head!
It's a nice surprise how good the Porsche still manages to sound, considering the car it had to follow.
Great video!
I know right? I just love the sound of a flat six... Like half of a 12. A proper spec GT3 sounds amazing.
Beautiful video! Loved it.
Yea! Thanks Nick!
Nick - you *have* to fly out to Denver, rent something fun on Turo, and take a road trip with these amazing ladies!
It is beautiful!
Wow, you really treat your cars well. Great maintenance, warm up, and driving! Wouldn't hesitate to buy a car from you.
Love this video, answers the questions I had in the 1980's
I clicked the like button at 996, one of my favorite numbers.Having said that, for me, nothing beats the late 80"s 3.2 Carrera. Would love to have a 491 Option car. That was a great video,
Quite fair comparison, love it! And nice sounds...
It would be the Ferrari for me hands down. I don't have 308 as I couldn't find a good one at the time, so I settled for a 1989 382GTS. Fantastic car. I've had it now for 12 years and it hasn't missed a beat even though I thrash it every time I get in it. As for timing belts every five years, I think that's a myth. I have ten years on mine and am about to change them now. As long as you keep an eye on them that they don't get oil on them, they are all good. ( also besides time, it a distance thing too ). I just laugh when people say they are unreliable when they have never owned one let alone ever driven one. Great video. But for me, it's the Ferrari every time.
Awesome video! Well done
I love how you put things into detail intimately on such technical aspects. Your style is natural and fluid with the way your correspond your good knowledge. Keep it up.
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you so much for this, great informative video!
Outstanding! great in depth info i can't find elsewhere, the 308 Ferrari my all time favorite, Thank you for this great video.
I like the 512 boxer or the Daytona spyder myself
@Trent Robey Daytona forever ❤️❤️❤️
Cool video. Better than most reviews on the 'Tube.
Thanks Wesley!
Excellent review, learned a lot. Thanks.
Thanks!
Great video! I love the original supercars from that generation.
I really love both of them. What a pleasure it must be driving those
Hey great review! Very much enjoyed it. Think I’d have the Ferrari even though I do love Porsches!
Great review of the cars that I wanted when I was in high school and college. I drove a '85 911 and it's a different beast than my 997 and 911. I suspect that my modern 911s drove closer to the 308. I love that you point out that your Porsche "drivers weird" in high speed corning, most people don't understand this about the older 911s. I've seen a mid-80s 911 race car spin off a track on a high speed turn. I didn't fully understand why it went off the track until I drove my 997 on the same track. It was the scariest turn on the track, #10 on Summit Point Circuit track, but the most rewarding when you do it correctly. Thanks again for the review!!
I’ve only just came across you ladies. Fantastic content , I shall be following as I’m looking forward to purchasing a 308 at some point I’ve just got to keep checking down the back of the sofa. 👍🏻
excellent video, you have a new subscriber!
Nice video with good insight
drove these 2 cars back in the 80's.the ferrari was 328 that was the moment of clarity for me on the 911s.i was and still am a fan off american muscles cars but mainly 911s now. finally got a 07 997 tt four years ago.each drive is a blessing.
I'm a 996 Turbo owner and I'm toying with the idea of one of these or a 69 Charger.I have just sold my 79 TRANS AM So looking for something new :-)
Great review !
Like the videos, keep up the good work.
For me this video is very well done. Real world information. You've totally given me confidence to move forward with my personal decision. Thanks for another well done video that's taught me something...again.
Lovely comparison of two wonderful cars. You are so lucky to have them.
Very Nice Video - I have a Porsche 993 and have been considering adding a Ferrari 328 to my garage and your video just got me thinking I definitely need both. The engine sound of the Ferrari was awesome.
They are very different, but complement each other very well I think :) Good luck in your search :)
Great video Franny, thanks! Have to say that I love both of them.
Also, I notice all of the new home construction going on around there!. Saying goodbye forever to the beautiful ranchland ..
Glider 123 oh. Building is going like crazy too. The roads are getting more crowded as well. It is a trade off for a good economy.
Love the review I have a G50 3.2 , great fun
Great job.
Nice job on this video, thanks for sharing your passion and expertise. Glad to see a video of the 308 in motion, being driven. What a beautiful machine. You're living the dream.
Thanks!!
As always, a great and accurate perspective of two iconic 80’s cars. Though I have never driven a Ferrari, your review made me feel like I just had.👍🇨🇦
Excellent video -- excellent conclusion and advice.
Thanks!
Wonderfully done, this movie!
I like that you don't play annoying music in the background , just to the point , thank you for your videos
Couldn't agree more.
I just got my Heidi and Franny's Garage T-shirt! It is so cool and super comfortable.
NickH glad you like. We will show them off next live stream.
Very interesting 😊
Nice video, trip down memory lane as I lived up in Coal Creek canyon and enjoyed the area. Good presentation, but I was distracted by your clutching the spokes of the steering wheel versus the wheel of the ferrari.
Sorry about that ;) That stock wheel is a little weird and it moves a lot more than the 308. That Momo on the 308 is super sweet and now I know why I see them on the Porsches so much. It is a little small diameter too. I hope it wasn't too distracting. I noticed it too ;) F
Thanks for the side by side comparison.
I'm still in love with the Porsche! =) Something about that sound! mmmmm lol
Hi Franny, another great and informative video. I simply adore the 308 design. Is the exhaust original? Thanks for your fantastic videos.
Thanks! It is original... It wasn't when we bought it, but we totally lucked out and scored a correct year original Euro exhaust with like 10Kmiles on it from A gentleman on F-Chat. Amazing find and I really love the sound. Never droney and still has a nice bite! It sounds great, doesn't it? Funny, all our cars have stock exhausts.
Heidi i love ur videos!!! keep it up! So happy to see another woman that loves cars as much as i do.
Watching ur videos is therapy for my soul😅😇❤️
Awww... That's so sweet! :)
i love your videos! "You Go Girl!"
Another great video! I love you girls!
The Ferrari is my choice all day long, love the Colorado scenery too!
At last - a decent comparison of two great cars! Un biased and a great review! Thank you for posting this!
Thanks!
Was a good Video! Was waiting for that comparison. You nailed the personality differences. Perhaps a bier stein and glass Prosecco is a better analogy.
Also have those 2 in my garage a 328 and a 911/964 and couldn’t imagine having to depart with one.
You definitely need to show them off on some better roads, that I know you have around that state.
Great job!
Will do! Those roads are easy enough to get to, but a bit more up the canyons would be more suiting - I agree. And, it isn't completely fair... I really should have paired the 308 with an SC - same displacement and same injection. Still, the two are different enough that they really do sit well in the same garage. Like I said, we couldn't pick between them either!
That sounds is amazing!
Sweet Video, thank you for sharing!
Thanks! I love your avatar photo!
Thanks!!! - Nick and Rikki
Brava, 2 bellissime Automobili, Complimenti
I test drove a 911 and 308 but ended up buying a 1986 Porsche 928S manual transmission. A faster, reliable, and more comfortable car. I still daily drive it
not as cool and cheaper too, great car tho, i used to own one ;)
Land sharks sure are seeing lots of love on the collector car market. Good ones are the darlings of BaT.
Hey A superb review on my two fave 80s cars. 308 (Magnum pi) is so sexy, and even the 328. I would never want to own one though, just drive one. As for the 911, well, you summed up the 915 perfectly. The only reason why so many have lost their 2nd gear syncro mesh is because those folk think they can change gear in the same way they would in their VW Golf. For me it has to be the 'No man's land' Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera, and the 915 series too. Love your very informative channel
You sure know how to look after cars 👍Greetings Form England 🇬🇧
Great video! 308 everyday of the week...
308 all the way, Ferrari has a soul, the engine is pure music and the style is a masterpiece.
FANTASTIC VIDEO!
Cool vid, ya got a new sub! I was wondering, what's the mic setup you use? You have everything else listed on the description except that. The audio is quite clean considering it's in convertible cars and hella windy out there.
Oh and interesting way to grab the wheel on the rari lmao
Franny has a rode wireless mic with a lavaliere setup. She actually runs the G85 with it and just uses the audio. Yes, I need to update the settings for that. Thanks for the reminder. Heidi
Several comments on my hand position. A couple of things... Not a great idea to have your thumb under the web like that... If the steering wheel was to jerk quickly it could break my thumb. It is just that the wheel diameter is a bit small and that bus angle and how heavy the steering is at low speeds I got into a bad habit. Even when I was at higher speeds, I didn't alter my grip... Need to work on that! Welcome to the channel!! Maybe I'll make a video on lowering the angle of that wheel somewhat ;) Franny
I love those gated shifters
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I love them both but I’d choose the Ferrari, but both are wonderful. Thank you!
Great video, I love all the information and how presented. I would take the Ferrari, just for the aesthetics. So beautiful.
Great video, now which to buy?🤔
Enjoyed watching. I used to own a 1977 911s and I really enjoyed driving it. But I've always loved the lines of the 308 ! These days I'd prefer the Ferrari qv. Nice you have a euro spec car.
Carrera 3.2 elle est mythique cette voiture 😘
The stereo in the Ferrari isn't aftermarket. What Ferrari used to do was they would wire everything and then let you pick the head unit as you bought it so you can pick different head units and that would be the factory stereo but they would wire all at Ferrari for you.
Awesome comparison. I am crazy for the Pininfarina design, and the sound of that engine in the 308. But I am sold on Porsche. I just love the way they drive, and they have their own beautiful sounds. Thank you for the side by side of these classics.
I had an ‘89 Targa. Fantastic car.
Very nice!
Great video! I'd surely take the Porsche, myself!
Team Shamu here, wonderful vídeo and cars.
Go Shamu!!
Gidday Franny (and Heidi). I've only just found your channel tonight during some Covid-19 "home time", which is actually normal for me, lol! I'm a '65 kid, so grew up with Magnum PI, and have always wanted a red 308GTS (just ask my parents!). But I've always loved the VW Beetle curved shape of the older 911, and just adore the throaty sound of the flat-6 air cooled engine. As a pilot, I also have experienced that same growl of a big flat-6 up front, So I've a real dilemma in choosing... Back in late 80s I had a red Alfa 33QV boxer as my 308 stand-in, so know all too much about the Italian narrow offset pedals, weird steering angle and low seats, not to mention the terrible electrics, high revving engine coupled to a close range unreliable 5 speed gearbox. It was a costly expensive car, but it won me a wife back then! So I'd probably go for the Porsche 911 for that classy growl and the more upright seating, now that I'm much older. Would still love the 308 for weekends as they're such a head turner with the Italian flare and the "need for speed"! I love your content, your super knowledgeable commentary, and very pragmatic conclusions. Cheers down in from NZL
Nice. A Kiwi. Go for the Porsche, then when you don't get enough attention, go for the Ferrari!
This may have been mentioned earlier but there was a fun 308 vs 911 contest in the 1984 movie Against All Odds. James Woods in the Ferrari and Jeff Bridges in the Porsche.
That is a great scene!! Next time you watch it check out the VW bug... Somehow it keeps getting ahead of them ;) The Carrera is an '83 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet. The first Cab since the 356! Great fun :)
1986 930 turbo, white w/black Fuchs, black leather interior w/ houndstooth inserts and NO convertible!
Against All Odds staring Jeff Bridges, there's a scene where Jeff is racing James Woods' character down Sunset Blvd around the Beverly Hills area and Jeff is in a red 911 SC Cabriolet and Woods in a black 308 GTSi, one of the underrated car chase/race scenes of all-time IMO.
05gtdriver we have never seen that. Just kidding. Heidi
That is an awesome scene! The sounds of the cars... Probably not something Porsche or Ferrari would endorse ;) Watch it again and check out the Beetle they pass in the beginning. It shows up again towards the end when they go screaming by it ;) Best Ferrari on Porsche I've seen. F
@@HeidiandFranny That movie reference is definitely something to mention next time these 2 cars are together on a video :) I love that car chase!
Nice comparo! The 3.2 Carrera has enough low end torque but the engine really sings past 4kRPM.
So true! I'm not sure I really did it justice with the sound. You can actually feel a bit of a boost past 4K. I'm a big fan.
I use to own a 308-GTS Ferrari and I loved it. It drove great but better at higher speeds and that is where I liked it the best. I owned it for close to 21 years and sold it for the same price I bought it. I do miss it but would I ever buy another one someday. YOU BET.
Smiles per gallon for sure on this decision.
Yea! Lovin' your series!! What would you put the F430 up against? 996TT? 996/997GT3? What do you think? That would be a fun compare!
Well, this is a really nice video, honest opinions like the cars really are. I go for the porsche because the better daily use of it and it' (in my opinion) bullet prove . The ferrari makes me think on Magnum PI ,a real beauty but I hoped on a more sharper sound of that V8. I realy enjoyed this video ,thanks
Wonderfully informative video...interestingly enough they both happen to be my two favorite cars of all time. Quatrovalvole 308’s and 911/930. 😄😄
They are both great cars and compliment each other well...
The 308 engine is in immaculate condition!
