She is talking about crystal (not crystalline) glazes, I believe. Most matte glazes are crystal glazes and they can be food safe. But crystalline are never food safe, I think.

I use rim templates from claysharemarket.com along with cutters from deladesigngifts.com and some I made myself from cardboard.

Why the matte is not really safe for food? I'm a new Potter. Is it because the dryness of the glaze will absorb the moist of food?
