I tell the story behind George Lucas's final "Star Wars" film: "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" (2005). I delve deep into its production history, discuss its legacy, and share my own thoughts on the film. Starring Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Ian McDiarmid, Samuel L. Jackson and Frank Oz.

A true crime that you've received so little attention comparatively to other creators.
I just came across his videos the other day and have watched about 20 of them.
Indeed. There’s another channel - “stamFine” who is equally entertaining far more so than other folks who are ok, but lack the sparkle that their level of subscriber base warrants. This is not a criticism of Them at all but sometimes the “algorithm “ or the figurative “claw” as the green aliens would describe it in toy story seems to lead down some fairly arbitrary paths! Lol. Great vid. Thank you. I don’t know any to criticise individuals as it’s not nice or fair as they are all much better than anything I could do but the IGN/ cinefix seems to have taken a small downturn since they came under corporate IGN wing???
Saw this in the cinema with my dad. Was amazing and still is.
Although I love the way Anakin turns in the film, it would have been cool to know what other philosophical issues he had with the jedi
I wonder if there is a book that discuss it I’m sure there is
Just watch clone wars
It feels way more realistic and way more tragic when you see that he can’t express his thoughts about the Jedi order that well.
I legit cannot hear this music without crying. The layers of struggle of characters, crew, actors, writers, Lucas, plus the nostalgia.... Takes me back to being a kid and getting to watch this film in the cinema with my grandfather. He had all the VHS copies of the movie (specialised and original), he took my uncles and my mom to see A New Hope when it released in the 70s. As the suns set on Tatooine, and the credits roll, he said, "Well, that's it. It's all done. No more." He died a couple years later, so he didn't get to see the sequels, but I watched them for him, on opening night. And now my nephew who is four watches Star Wars. Four generations, three trilogies, one family. This shit transcends art, history and culture. May the Force be will you all, always.
I love your retrospective on Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. And I loved your Lion King retrospective. You should do another Disney or Star Wars retrospectives. Keep it up man. Nice videos, man.
God I love this movie. So epic.
Dude your videos are just ridiculously awesome. An embarrassment of Riches. So much research and detail. Love it.
While the trilogy as a whole has a mixed legacy among fans, this movie stands out as a necessary installment. Honestly, this one film is the entire prequel story.
ROTS is not only my favorite Star Wars move, it is my favorite movie of all time! I was 11 years old when it came out and was definitely part of the target audience and as far as I am concerned it was an absolute bullseye! I love this movie thanks for the memories!!

I didnt enjoy the prequels overall but do like this film and think Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi steals the show in this movie.
The prequels are completely worth it for Ewan as Obi Wan.
Ewan is an awesome actor. I tried to hang onto the prequels because of his performance. Unfortunately, in the end, it wasn't enough for me to want to keep the films.
@@garrettbays6942 He would've been far better playing Anakin, with Kenneth Branagh playing Obi-Wan, as was the rumour before the release of TPM. It would've also put their ages more in line with their ages in the OT. But Lucas wanted to f*** around with continuity just so he could put a kid as the lead in the first movie and a catwalk model in the other two movies.
Thanks for this, I'd be very interested in the other two as well, good work😊
Thanks for watching! Someday ....
Layton Eversaul I love your retrospective of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. This is my favorite Star Wars film in the entire Skywalker Saga. I saw the disclaimer but how do you see clearly- all I have is a cellphone how do I go to the link?
Another good breakdown here
This is a fun film - for me it’s the most ‘emotional’ film in the Star Wars saga and best captures the 30’s serial feel Lucas was trying to capture with the original film in 77
I like that you cover the Revenge Of The Sith novel- it’s by far my favourite book adaptation in the saga and as a stand alone book it’s one of my favourite Star Wars books ever

Really great review.
I love Revenge of the Sith. The opening sequence is mind blowing and the last hour of the movie is so dark. There are a few artistic choices that can be questioned but overall the movie kicks ass in true star wars fashion
Star wars revenge of the sith and star wars empire strikes back and star wars rise of Skywalker are my favorites. The only thing that disappoints me is that rise of Skywalker should have been released as the 3 hour JJ Abrams cut in the movie theaters and when it came out on dvd. Any extended scenes in the other two movies should have gotten the same treatment.
Okay, just to clarify what you said about Palpatine giving Anakin Skywalker the title of Darth Vader.
If you know your star wars lore, either legends or Canon, the title of Darth is bestowed upon by a sith master to their apprentice as a way of showing the fallen one's commitment to the dark side.
So, when Anakin attacked windu, he gave in to dark side hence why Palpatine gave him the title of Darth Vader. It was not for no apparent reason.
Does "Vader" have any meaning in the lore?
The reasoning for the Darth title is the obvious part, I think he was more referring to the lack of origin for the name Vader, especially since we were promised an origin to that name prior to the trilogy.
ah but see that is no where in the movie so you are incorrect, it is for no apparent reason. perhaps if the movie had been better it wouldn't have been for no reason whatsoever but since this isn't very good, it is for no reason whatsoever.
for some reason the whole video is blurry
I think the blurred one is better because the original movie was so terrible. This is much better. But that's what you get when you mess the DisKnees
8:17 my brain flat out ejected that scene holy crap
Going via the link now. You hear me, youtube?
I personally think one thing that would have improved the entire Prequel Trilogy: Other directors. For some reason, if I remember correctly, George L tried to get other directors to help, but they didn't.
He wanted his good friend Steven Spielberg to direct, but Spielberg told him Star Wars was his baby and he should direct it himself. I do wonder what the prequels would have been like if Lucas wrote them, but Spielberg directed them.
He asked Ron Howard to direct Phantom Menace as well. Gave same reason as Spielberg as to why he wouldn’t.
@@jasonshaneyfelt1039 George sucked at writing though
16:16
He wasnt originally a kid. That's incorrect. George let the artist have free reigns on making up characters and he's pick what he'd like about them and they'd go back and redo it the way he'd want it. One of the ideas was that the General would be a child sitting on a throne guarded by soldiers or something. But that was just one guys idea not the original idea.
And Lucas said the kid in the art didn't look tough. There was another note he had..... Something to do with looking too similar to another character
Compared to the lousy sequel trilogy that is Episodes 7, 8, and 9; the prequel trilogy films are masterpieces.
I’m very sorry large companies repeatedly and without merit go after channels that use their movie clips regardless of ‘fair use’ guidelines. I’m sorry they made you obliterate your video

Jesus...are folks in here really this slow?
Why did you blur everything and zoom in like that? I'm pretty sure this is covered by fair use.
This was like Citzen Kane compared to Rise of Skywalker
It would have made that turn much more compelling at the time to goad anikin into killing dooku in revenge for his mother.
I do like ROTS its very dark, and Lucas masterfully handles all the threads and ties everything together, the consistency is top quality and ep 3 connects perfectly to ep4 i think.
Did you ever find out why YT blocked this? Is it just cause you used the music or something? Forgot to put in a dissclaimer?
Did you just day Lucas masterfully handled the prequels 😅🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 That's hilarious

Amazing that they blocked it. I wonder what they thought about Plinkett?
They blocked George Lucas talking about how Star Wars lost it's way (and he was very polite about it.) But they see it as a threat! TAKE IT DOWN!
i like RLM but their Plinkett 's reviews on star wars are just stupid
@@paulatreides1354 - but they are dead on!
Sadly, after his badass debut in Clone Wars, Grievous turned out to be a total coward in the movie. Crap.
"Lucas's concluding chapter.. something he had carried with him since he was fresh out of film school.."
Not sure about that one, Layton.
No, it's nothing like the original ideas he had for ANH. Vader didn't even have the mask until late in the scripting. As a matter of fact, the mask wasn't even thought up by Lucas, but rather McQuarrie. It also wasn't meant to be a permanent fixture, but rather something he wore as he went from the Star Destroyer to the Blockade Runner. Him being Anakin wasn't decided on until later scripts for ESB.
A lot of BS has been said over decades about the prequel trilogy (including a lot of your thoughts in here) but time put things in perspective and in 2022 the prequels outweight and look like masterpieces compared to the pathetic sequels that are almost forgotten by a lot of SW fans. Hayden and Natalie's performances are oscar worthy on ROTS compared to those clowns from the sequels who never managed to appeal anybody because they're simply shallow and useless.
So good the prequels were that in time I prefer to rewatch them than even the original trilogy. Screw the haters, long live the prequels.
Much suffering in the fandom has been wrought by the over-focussing (apart from the 6 george films which are justified) on the same small amount of characters and time period.
Suffering leads to hate yada yada
👌
This is my third favorite of the six part saga forget the crap sequel trilogy by Disney. I remember seeing this at the midnight showing May 19 2005.
The problem with making this a tragedy is that you have to have sympathy for the main character, and I'm afraid I didn't even come close to liking Anakin, nor Padme., nor any of the other characters, so it's hard to impossible to even attempt to get emotionally involved in this load of CGI tripe. Just that scene alone where Anakin says about the Jedi being evil, there's absolutely no emotional conviction there. Chistensen's just a blank face with yellow eyes. You want well played evil?
czcams.com/video/yr-HmSz421c/video.html
I could've played an evil Anakin far better than Chistensen. It needed signs that he was holding back rage with twitching cheeks and eyelids, twitching curled snarling lips and hissing growling voice.
czcams.com/video/e7X01_j_oDA/video.html
If the Shat can do pissed off rage then why couldn't Christensen? He had to show that he was ready to get stuck into Obi-Wan. The sabre battles were also just show, with them mindlessly swirling their blades in the air. That's the irony about the OT, Lucas criticised the sabre battles for them just hacking at each other, but that's how real sword fights were, rather than the baton twirling and acrobatic somersaults that we got in the PT.
czcams.com/video/iMLItFkwyHA/video.html
What's up with the video quality? Super fuzzy and out of focus.

George should never have sold SW.
The Presbretyrein Church like enjoys you not?
You might have been right at one time about fans, hating the prequel series. But I think we appreciate a much better since we’ve seen the Disney Star Wars sequels. Those are just garbage. The last Jedi, the rise of Skywalker, and yes, even the force awakens. Those plus solo, make us appreciate the prequel’s so much more now. They had their problems yes, mini problems. But when you stack the prequel’s up next to the abominations that Disney has put out, then they look like academy award winners.
Rewatched the prequels last year, and truly enjoyed them. Lucas doesn't deserve the harsh bashing he received, but hey, in this day and age, any impilte assh*le can voice is ''opinion''.
ah, these movies are terrible and yes Lucas deserves all of the truth being told to him.
The best of the Prequels and this is a fine documentary about it. Shame that You Tube has messed with your video.

This video is awesome but I have to say one thing. As someone who has done bodybuilding and steroids, I can say certainly he did not put on 25 lb of muscle in 3 months. Not a chance. He likely gained 25 pounds. Probably about 6 or 7 lb of water six or seven pounds of fat in 5 lb of muscle if that. You have to take absolutely obnoxious amounts of steroids, which I have to put on 25 lb in a short. Of time and even then it's definitely not all muscle. Not even close. You're not putting 25 lb of pure muscle on even in a year. He definitely bulked up tho. Wouldn't be surprised if he took a cycle or two to get bigger also. And before people say oh he wasn't that big, to get that much bigger that much quicker, a trainer and over-the-counter supplements is not going to do that. Again in 3 months, with three different types of heavy dose steroids, working out 7 days a week, eating 8 meals a day I only put on 25 lb. So I would be willing to bet that he definitely took some steroids. And trust me saying he's not that big is not a reason that someone's not on steroids. The very first steroid cycle I took I was 158 lb when I was finished with it I was 170. No one would have thought that I was on them. But he looked great in that movie for sure
I hate CGI ! Sorry but if there's too much it just takes me out of the film.
Here is the video you and your audience must wacth to really understand why people can´t and could not "like" the prequels. czcams.com/video/-TSqjRgh2ZY/video.html
Honestly, I think all the fan service is what ruined the prequels for me in retrospect. If I wanna watch the films in chronological order, Anakin being put in the Darth Vader armor at the end pf Episode III kills the twist in Empire Strikes Back, as well as the birth of the twins.
Yes...that is all the prequels were...attempted fan service
@@arthurhall8238 The Sequels were that, plus forced in gender politics. However, I velieve Dave Filoni's Clone Wars, Bad Batch and Rebels series fixed the prequels in a way.
@@HewylewisClone wars was made by George lucas. Why are you giving full credit to filoni? Rebels and bad batch are his shows though.
@@Buzz956I never said he created Clone Wars, he was the showrunner though.
Ok the reason is nowadays everyone seems to have this idea that all seven seasons of tcw were his but the fact is that most of the stuff indeed came from george lucas.
Lucas was always his own worst enemy. That's what happens when the hubris takes over. Terrible trilogy.
I think the Plinkett reviews are far more watchable than the movies themselves.
I saw your notice at the start Layton, Ive come up against them Lucasfilm Disney fucks and they are relentless.
It was much better than that feminist garbage they got going on today. I'm not talkin about rogue one.
Rogue One was surprisingly good because I went in with zero expectations. It was a story that didn't necessarily need to be told, but it added depth to the canon and lore, and it also provided us with one of the only live-action, on-screen portrayals of a consummate Darth Vader simply shredding Rebel soldiers. I remember leaving the theater grinning after witnessing that little gem. Rogue One was better than SW7-9 imo - and that shite Solo story.
I saw the film Jumper (2008) reluctantly...it was a piece of [expletive]! It seemed to me that Hayden kept on trying to do his own take on the famous Schwarzenegger growl most of the time, but his attempts came off as appearing to be delivering a child (or an incredibly large bowel movement). Rachel Bilson was the only person worth watching in that excrement of a movie, and the best part is when she slaps his face to wake him up after nearly drowing. However, Hayden's acting does have some saving grace in the film Life as a House (2001); even though that film overall was really lousy (though it was not due to the actors, but the script).
24:50 One of if not THE most disappointing part of this movie. Along with the lack of any scene depicting Anakin killing Jedi.
The best of a weak trilogy. Too too much cgi and Vader screaming at the end please.
When I think back on the prequel films, the portrayal of Anakin Skywalker was very poorly executed both from the acting and the writing. Jake Lloyd was a terrible child actor who sullied every scene he was in, and Hayden Christensen sounded scripted and seemed too unrealistic- albeit, he had to bear the brunt of a poorly written script with dialogue which sounds like mindless Oblivion NPC chatter. His delivery and acting was often underwhelming and unconvincing, however, for some inexplicable reason, I cannot envisage another actor playing the role of Anakin.
I can. When I was a kid I expected him to be more like Charlton Heston as he was in the 1960's. I never expected him to be a plastic Ken Doll like Christensen with acting like a Dalek.
and it is also true that DISNEY has destroyed star wars !!!!!!
bwaa ha ha
ah no. Disney didn't make the prequels so it was ruined long before they bought it.
44:39 And that isn't even the score from ROTS, but rather the far superior ESB.
As for your last comment:
ANH: 4.5/5
ESB: 5/5
ROTJ: 3/5
TMP: 2/5 (for the score)
AOTC: 1/5
ROTS: 2.5/5
I have this being worse than Clones and Menace , I saw this in theatre thinking that Lucas had really lost his mind. The shit dialogue, sped up pacing in the third act to (make everything fool circle haha, what a genius) acting was bad , the lightsabre fight was ridiculous, noooooo! was laughable, killing younglings because lol evil. I want to apologize to Lucas about how Disney fucked him hard but I can't excuse this.
I found it more bearable but I think that's just after AOTC I'd gotten into the groove of awfulness and didn't care so much anymore. But I agree it's sad Lucas didn't learn anything, didn't hire a Co writer for his shitty dialogue, didn't appoint someone devil's advocate to tell him "a twelve minute light sabre FIGHT OF WHICH WE ALREADY KNOW HOW IT WILL END is not interesting, no matter how much fake lava you put in the background" 🙄

In all your reviews you put in so much of the movie scenes? Huge waste of time seeing over half of the clip being just scenes from the movie without any voice over or trivia over it. You seem to be reading the imdb trivia and slightly expanding on some those details. Very simple but I guess that's what most people on here want. Bit more research of your own would go a long way!
