- Fleischer Studios Screen Song ('bouncing ball" cartoon) from 1932 featuring Ethel Merman and the usual Fleischer weirdness including a very Betty Boop-like mermaid (though this short isn't usually included in lists of Betty Boop cartoons).
For those who never heard Ethel Merman in her prime, this gem testifies to the magnificence of her one-and-only voice. Many, many thanks!!!
For anyone who’s curious, the song that the ukulele-toting worm is playing is ‘Who's Your Little Who-Zis’.
Right after that, the song that Betty Boop hums is “Everybody Says ‘I Love You.’”
Makes me wonder how many more film treasures like this haven't been seen in decades.
Because Paramount was his distributor (who eventually took control of his studio in 1942), Max Fleischer had access to many New York-based singers, bandleaders and performers under contract to them, and filmed live-action footage of their portions of the "Screen Songs" in Paramount's New York newsreel studio. Unfortunately, Ethel Merman did NOT have a future as a Paramount star in New York or Hollywood, making few appearances on film.
Ethel had a beautiful singing voice
NIce story line. The Fleischers hook again!
Mae Questel Plays The Voice Of The Betty Boop-Like Mermaid.
....except a topless Betty Boop! Right up unto the moment she lands on the clock. Ethel's character grows clothing from the waist up in a nano-second! Aw, the special effects of 1932....
Listen To the Opening Credits. I LOVE it.
me too 💗
It`s Not Included On The Lists Of Betty Boop Cartoons Because This Is A Screensong. Even Though Betty Boop Did Appear In Some Screen Songs, But The Screensongs Are Included Seperate From The Betty Boop Cartoons, Same As The Talkartoons Betty Boop Appeared In. And Second Of All Why It Was Not Included A Betty Boop Cartoon Was That She Was a Prototype In This.
Love these!
At 2:40 the song is “Everyone Says I Love You”, from the Marx Brothers picture “Horse Feathers” (also a Paramount release)
missing 3 Betty titles from this year:
Rudy Vallee Melodies
Wait Till the Sun Shines, Nellie
Just One More Chance
Screen song- she sings like an opera.

Nice.
Good clip
I wonder how many people kept up with the bouncing ball in the middle of Ethel's song ?
Well,IF You Are Looking For Rudy Vallee Melodies, You Can Find That On CZcams. But Just One More Chance and Wait Till The Sun Shines Nellie I Could Not Find On CZcams.
yes, seen it already. are the other ones lost, or just well kept?
The only Screen Songs cartoon missing from the Betty Boop boxed set recently reissued; Betty is featured in several of these sing-along cartoons of the early 1930's.
Ethel is magnificent at this time, not much on the cartoon though.
Geez. I wander how would people react if they saw a half naked girl on a clocktower. Thogh i wander where Ethel Mermaid's shoes vent
