  • I am not the body, I am not even the mind in sadhguru's own voice.
    I am not he body , i am not even the mind - night time meditation.
    Listen to it every night when you go to bed.
    Use headphones for the best result.
    Just lie on the bed, close your eyes and fall asleep to this audio.
    When you are inhaling, not necessarily is only inhalation happening - exhalation could be partly happening as well. Similarly, when you are exhaling, not necessarily is only exhalation happening - inhalation could be partly happening too. But you will not figure this until you notice the way of the breath. Though in many ways, physiologically, the breath is the basis of your life, most human beings have never really experienced their breath. Those who become conscious of just the sensations of the air passage claim all kinds of transformations, and that is true. Your sensations are the outermost layer of who you are. Knowing the sensations is most fundamental. Whatever you touch, whether you sit or stand, there are sensations. The breath is a more profound and subtle dimension which will not come into your experience easily.
    Taking the Breath Away
    When we say breath in the sense of koorma nadi, we are not talking about the oxygen-carbon dioxide exchange. That is happening as a consequence of what we refer to as shvasa. Along with the transaction of air that is coming in and going out, there is another level of transaction required for the physiological process to happen. Even after a person is medically dead - the movement of air, the heartbeat, and the brain activity have stopped - he is still breathing for some time, in the sense that the koorma nadi is still on. That process is still going on, but it is not able to pull in air and push out carbon dioxide. It is like an old siphon that is still pumping, but the liquid does not flow, because there is a little leak. Similarly, the koorma nadi process is still on, but the oxygen-carbon dioxide exchange has closed down. Suppose the stock exchange closes down - in most people’s understanding, the entire economy is finished, but you can still buy bread locally. Maybe you do not pay in cash but in kind, but the economy is still going on, though not at a level that could be measured. Similarly, the koorma nadi can still be on while the exchange of air has already stopped.
    We are talking about becoming aware of the breath, which means you become aware of the link between you and your body. If you take away your breath, obviously you and your body will fall apart. Travelling along the breath will give you access to that dimension. If you learn to hold your body a little away from yourself, you will know you are not the body. If you are wearing loose-fitting clothes, you know these clothes are not you. If you are wearing really tight-fitting clothes, after some time, you do not know whether they are you or not. You experience your skin as “yourself.” Some part of your skin will disappear in no time, but still you are yourself. Even if you go into little deeper layers of the body, still you are yourself.
    Adding a Fragrance to the Breath
    Do not use “I am not the body, I am not the mind” as a slogan - it will not work like that. This was given to you as an aid to bring awareness to the koorma nadi, or the breath. Shouting slogans is a way of manipulating crowds on the street. You cannot do anything inside with that. When I go to new places in northern India, it is very common that people want to shout, “Sadhguru maharaj ki jai!” I immediately stop them and say, “First, a slogan will come, then a flag, then an emblem, then you will become a nation of your own. And then you will have a national bird!”
    “I am not the body, I am not the mind” should happen in a very subtle way to bring the breath into your awareness. With that thought, you are simply adding a little fragrance to your breath so that you can notice it. It is like lighting incense to see where the air is moving. If it is moving gently, you would not know otherwise. Just like that.

    Very grateful for this 🙏🏻 however, after 20 min, it starts looping Sadhguru around 3 repetitions - two of which have someone coughing in the background, which is too distracting for me to keep listening. It would be nice to have a cleaner version, where only Sadhguru's voice is audible. Thank you tho, I love the video otherwise!

      Same here. The prolonged extension of Sadhguru's voice allows me to sink into this badass sense of stillness that calms me to the core.
      This has done wonders for my motivation too.

    Can you make it like 20min "I'm not the body..." Chant, 20min of "aaaaa .....' chanting, and 20min of Flute + Sadhguru's singing part?
    It'll be of equal proportion then

    So, if we are not our minds, then what are we? Who is making decisions and choices for us? Are we making them? If we are, then what part of us are we using to make those choices, if we are not our minds?

      this is a techinque used so you can teach yourself to be an observer of your own mind rather than being your own mind. It's not easy to understand but that is the idea. When you reach this level your anxiety lvl drops and you can sleep better. Hope I helped.

      The intellect makes decisions. You are the pure consciousness which observes/experiences thoughts, feelings, emotions, sensations ext. If you were mind, then the same thought would remain, for what is Real must be permanent

      Imagine that you're in a traffic jam.. You feel irritated, maybe angry because you're late for something. Imagine that you're on a plane and that you're observing the same traffic jam from above. You're amazed, it looks beautiful, you're calm. It's the same traffic jam, but your thoughts are different. That's one of the explanations from Sadghuru from other video. Hope this helps.

      @@cashmusicbeats9881 well , it does help one sleep but if you do that it'll be difficult to be more conscious. Better try some instrumentals from sounds of isha or other music groups . It's best if you sleep in silence , paying attention to your transition from wakefulness to sleep . Sadhguru says this dramatically slows down the cellular aging and you wake up much fresh the next morning (if you happen to) . Still if you can't sleep in silence then try dwimukhi or madhyamavati or waterfall (from sounds of isha).
      Other thing is, this is a tool(really powerful one) . With fixed numbers of times of chants and time allotted for each phase .

    Namaskaram.
    The real kriya has fixed number of times of thoughts then saying àaa and then slience . You can sit silently for whatever time period you wish to but don't distort the real kriya . It's made that way with a purpose .
    If you distort things this may , my friend, even though you might be doing this out of devotion and love for all but it will again distort sadhguru's dream of providing legit and authentic yoga . Kriya yoga is sophisticated so please stick to it without the slightest change .
    Sorry if it hurt but remove this video brother .

      Dear adhiRaj sudhguru him self has recommended this to be thought during sleep. May be it's not possible for every one to do so it's good some one has taken from isha kriya and put it here . It ll definitely help one to reduce sleep quota and loosen ones ego

      Sadhguru has never recommended this for people living in family conditions. What he has said goes something like , keep whatever you've gathered aside , look around sitting on your bed in order to make things much like as you're on your deathbed . Isha kriya instructions do come with a phrase "you can remind yourself I'm not the body , I'm not even the mind any time during the day " . Yes , one can think it for few seconds to help get rid of everything one's gatherings throughout the day , the emotions and things that bind one but this entire kriya shouldn't be done as it regulates one's energies in a certain way . In fact I have contacted kriya support department of the foundation several times and they said me to refrain from doing any sadhana in general during the night for people living in family situations.
      However it depends on person to person whether to take the instructions as a line in rock or make modifications in it ( well Sadhguru too has said in exclusive series , those who try to leave their prints must know , they'll never fly ) .

      @@nanigudkar Adhiraj is right. I just wanted to add one thing. Sadhguru does talk about Isha Kriya and sleep bit never together. He has said that for 12 mins at night in bed, to mentally tell yourself ",I am not the body, I am not even the mind", basically as a way to help you keep your accumulations and identity aside as you drift off to sleep.
      Also, to see if you can remain aware of the moment you go from wakefulness to sleep.
      He calls this moment "free enlightenment" 😄🙏
      It's very important to stick to the original kriya. It's not just something thrown together. There's a lot of science that goes into it. Namaskaram 🙏 🙏

      Distractions are useful. I noticed the same thing at 1st but I don't now or at least I don't consciously hear it anymore to the point where it distracts me. The actual Isha Kriya or meditation has the same background noises but its much much shorter. You can find it on Sadhguru's CZcams channel or the Sadhguru app. If you haven't seen or heard the audio/video setup for the Isha Kriya.. I recommend that one 1st. 🙏Namaskaram 🙏

    If you did not have a body, you woud not have limbs, no heart, no head, no abdomen, etc,.
    No brain, no life, no per-- son all waiting to be buried or cremated.
    No sensible human being can be foolish enough to destroy his own living body and depend on spirit, atman, soul, heaven or hell and other non living entities.
    It is the BODY that carries the mind and

      You're just stating the obvious. I can't speak for Sadhguru but, I think it's safe to say that he's not telling you to get rid of your body or "destroy" it as you assume. What he IS saying, is that you are too identified with body and mind and you don't have to be nor should you be. By doing this Kriya, you can create a little distance between 'you' and the body and 'you' and the mind... and become an observer to your own life. But that's not the only thing the Kriya can do. Namaskaram 🙏

      You are Your higher self. You are more than that. You have borrowed the body you are in right now. It doesnt define you. You mind is just all the information accumulated over your lifetime and again that dosent define you. So basically, you are not supposed to be so attached to your body as after you die, you dont even get to take your body with you, talk about money😅 and you don't want your mind to control you. When you say I am not the mind, you should imagine yourself getting freed from the poisons of life, greed, jealousy, ego, laziness. You are free of all the burden you are caring. I do this before sleep because I feel as if a burden is lifted from me and I relax. And it also helps me with social anxiety cos when you realize you are not your mind and you body, you learn to not care how you look. Hope that helps.
