Hitching a bottle without needing to pull your rope through. To the memory of "The Gentle Giant" - Ben Asberg, RIP Like this video? Buy me a cup of coffee to help out making more! ko-fi.com/rope...
This is really lovely. What a gift to have an older generation gentleman friend take the time to share his craft with you. And an even greater gift is you, a younger generation, giving him your time to him to learn it. This made me very emotional. We really don't give our time to older generations to listen and learn from them. And so much knowledge is waisted. Not to mention the quality of time spent together building a tight bond. I feel doing these type of crafts are like therapy. And everything from a stressful day goes away for a while because all of your attention is focused on one task. And then the pride we feel when we are finished is so rewarding. Thank you for sharing your video with us. And dedicating it to your Gentle Giant is heartwarming. I hope someone from the younger generation will take time to learn from you to carry on this beautiful skill. Best wishes to you and yours.
The pattern of wrapping the bottle without using the needle and especially increasing the loops wherever necessary is very very beautiful and useful also.thanks a lot again and again for sharing such a beautiful pattern.
I used this very useful technique on a needle case so thank you for this new way. Maybe obvious to people but I was doing a zigzag design and when a direction change comes it doesn’t work ( as far as I could see) so I had to finish with a needle-the normal way. But for one direction stuff it’s great. Faster but a bit more cerebral I mean I had to focus more. A big advantage is no wear on the thread as with a needle. Hope this saves someone from trying it with zigzag! Thanks Mikko and for all the other videos you do.
Such a nice show,am very impressed with this method, how would it work if you used a netting shuttle big enough to make hammocks with instead of leaving the material in a ball ?
I've been looking for instructions for a bottle hitch for some time. Thanks Mikko! I have a three liter bottle 300mm high, 220mm wide one way and 120mm wide the other. How much 5mm cord do you estimate? I want to do the bottom too. Peter Sea Bear
I love this, thank you for sharing. Can I ask a few questions? What thickness of cord is best to use and do you know roughly how long it needs to be? Thanks :)
The thickness of cord is entirely up to you, it affects only to the appearance and the amount knots needed. Length is almost impossible to calculate since there are too many variables, make notes when you finish a project for future reference. If you are using twisted cord, it is good to learn how to splice so you can add new length if needed.
It is very difficult with so many variables, so I use a method of trial and error, keeping notes on prior projects. With time you learn to estimate the length needed.

My friends anniversary is coming up I’m going try this on a bottle of wine as a present for them. Your workmanship is outstanding

Am I the only one who noticed that two of the songs are covers of songs from the soundtrack of Napoleon Dynamite?
Mikko sei un grande, grande, grande...!!! (Italia)👏⚓
Love the guitar, and music. He must have been quite a man.😇
(I can't help but hear Dan Zerelic, he loves the lord too!)
Covfefe Tree the song is called Forever Young.
Just seeing this Sept. 2020. Clifford Ashley would've applauded
Thank you for your kind words but it is Ben, who should receive applause!

God has it in a good place. Wonderful work ... Thanks for the video 👍 like 606 💞🇧🇷
Such a nice show,am very impressed with this method, how would it work if you used a netting shuttle big enough to make hammocks with instead of leaving the material in a ball ?
For hammock I would suggest sheet bend instead.
Me sitting here going son of a... I just did this the long stupid way for a paracord bottle wrap for my brother for Christmas. Hours of pulling
Lovely craft idea.. are there other stitches ? I'd love to see more..thanks
Check out the stitching in the picture, shows a number of variations very nice work.

बोतल पर सूतली केसे लगाया जा ता
muito legal, sua arte
Waw 👍👍 precioso trabajo
congratulations!! how do you calculate the length of the string?
It is very difficult with so many variables, so I use a method of trial and error, keeping notes on prior projects. With time you learn to estimate the length needed.
Amazing.Could you tell me What kind of rope this is and What's its name. Could you do the last part more slowly. Thanks so much
That would be my #6, hard laid linen.
For a smaller bottle, should anything be done differently?
Maybe just smaller cordage, otherwise the process is the same.
@@mikkosnellman thanks, I have a glass flask I want to add a little protection to and this looks perfect
looks awesome... but you still have to pull the rope thru
Yes, knitting could be faster 😁
Mikko, is there a way to calculate the amount of cord needed?
Not really, just keep book of your trial and error.
Wish I had 25mtrs of 3mm cord.
What is this material? The cord.
That is my #6 hard laid linen. snellman.ax/materials.html
