Consider the odds: within the two main rival factions in The Sims Online, one of them displays a poster of the alias of the other's virtual character. Perhaps JC put up the poster after encountering Mia in-game, implying a profound admiration for the virtual mob boss she'd become. Nevertheless, it's undeniably peculiar, to say the least.

Okay so when I played the sims online I ran into a sims "mafia". I had a sim's online "bf" and he randomly got married to this other sim. I crashed their sim wedding and freaked out on him, little did I know he was marrying into one of these weird mafia families. Later on these two people came to my lot and pretended to want to be roommates. They lived at my sim's lot for a few days and earned my trust. They then asked if they could have building permissions to decorate their rooms and I gave it to them and logged off (I was literally 12 so I was dumb). I come back on and they totally decimated my whole lot, they removed everything and left trash piles all over the place. It was really hard making money in that game so I was really upset. Then they told me if I messed with the "mafia" again they'd hack me.
This is so crazy, I remember when the game first came out (I was 10 at the time) and I became friends with this random guy and he was building his own house. I was skilling up my guitar at that point and some random dude popped into the house with us and that guy I was buddies with told him if he payed simoleons he could sleep with my character and he private messaged me and told me to just play along, the guy payed my buddy and then my buddy immediately kicked him out of the house and blocked him 😭 I also saw so many weddings broken up, it was hilarious, but so crazy to think I was playing that so young

I miss the seediness, silliness, and adult feeling the sims 1-3 had. You never knew what would happen. The sims 4 seems so watered down, bland, and like a kids game in comparison. I really hope life by you is more like the original sims.
It's so lacking in the charm and feeling of the original concept. As an OG fan, even if the TS4 gameplay was better, I honestly don't know if I would enjoy playing it. It's just not what I'm looking for in a Sims game.

I played Sims Online as a beta tester then for a bit after it went live. It quickly became boring. In order to keep your bars up, you had to exercise, craft, or cook the whole time you were online. So text roleplay was the only real fun you could have if you weren't a griefer. Unfortunately, most public spaces were filled with 12-16 year olds complaining about their RL homework. If you didn't want to hear that or participate in sexting, there wasn't anything to do. Second Life was a huge draw away from that environment.

Ah I loved The Sims Online. I remember the mafia issues and all the beef. I actually was friendly with Evangeline her property was a skill house as well at a point. I remember being told by people to avoid the Sopranos and that Mia was nice, but to not let the mafia know you were friendly with her because as a new sim they might try to hurt you.

I have this weird feeling Project Renee is the resurrection of Sims online. They keep saying it will run along side sims 4, meaning it's not going to be replacing 4, but be a second more community focused online game - especially as they want it free to play. It'll be interesting if that turns out to be true😊
Honestly it makes me happy because that means that the Sims 5 probably isn't project Renee and we actually have a game coming out that is worth playing one day

I played TSO from 2002 to 2005 and, during my time there, I was known as Chuck Soprano. While I was not affiliated with the mafia of the same surname, that didn't stop them for harassing me about it. However, I was a prominent TSO Radio DJ as well and well known throughout the community for my "straight shooting, almost abrasive, honesty when it came to artists and their songs (most of the time for comedic effect.). My work as a DJ was weaponized against me as the Soprano family claimed that I worked for them and they tried deseprately to either push me out of TSO or into their group, DJ air time in hand. Luckily, my station owner had gotten pregnant and decided to stick the station on Autoplay giving us DJs the freedom to do shows live when we wanted to (so long as another DJ wasn't on) but we all agreed that the station had run it's course and all of us left the game for good to play EverQuest or a newer game called World Of Warcraft. I was one of the last people left on the station and up until 2007, my parting gift to the Soprano Family was an ad that played every 5-6 songs telling everyone that "Charles Soprano ain't no Mafia punk. I got more class than that. If you see those sh!ts around your lot, do yerself a favor and kick 'em off and say Chuck says hi." I'm sure I made a few enemies back then. ^-^
I played Sims Online, but I found it boring most of the time and there were certainly some creepy folks on there. It was a bit cliquish for me. I preferred to play alone in Sims 1. I am not looking forward to Project Renee being online. I hope they have more security in place.
I feel like the Sims in general is better as a solo game. I could see it working out if it were similar to Stardew Valley (IE: you can specifically invite X people to join your neighbourhood/save file), but I can't see it working out as an MMO in general. It's a story telling game. Unless the story is being round robin'd, seems a bit odd to have a random Internet Stranger come in and decide to change around what I want to do with my characters. And if it's straight up "You get a single avatar - if you want to get married/have kids, go make friends with an Internet Stranger" - no thanks. So many Internet Strangers confuse these kinds of games for Tinder. I'm not playing to hook up (in real life or with cyber sex), I'm playing to play the actual game.
This is exactly why I don't play multiplayer online games. I want control of my game so I can make it the kind of world I want. So glad you're back. I love your videos.

Forgot to add. I remember SSG moving to SWG. Actually loved SWG and nothing has come close since then. I've also been in touch off and on with people I met way back in 2003 on the sim online.

The drama was actually caused by adults playing TSO, people in their 30s and 40s having online affairs, and some pervs would DM minors asking to role-play 18+, that's why people will trash their places. I do remember those days, when I used to be in a family mafia, we were around 15-17. The hub links were friendship balloons, red was for the enemy and green was for the best friend. Easily avoided by having your queue full or your sim under the AFK interaction. Had a bunch of online friends in different cities. The game was actually super fun. Jumping in different lots.
As a designer in SL, I can tell you that there is also a MASSIVE issue of Sims creators stealing SL content (like hair and clothing) and porting it to the Sims to sell or give away and take full credit for the creation.
I wanted to say I'm surprised these happened to sims online, but after remembering how people scam, fraud, tra***ing villagers, extort others for having stars tree in animal crossing back in the craze, and how my friends and I had once successfully manipulated and price fixed a virtual commodity in an mmorpng and became filthy rich in game, I'm not surprised anymore. Guess these type of drama happens inevitably on virtual worlds when greeds and egos are involved.

SL has chilled tf out over the years though. (probably cause it is slowly dieing >.>) I never actually got in to TSO, Though I wanted too, but I have always been pretty poor and I was REALLY poor back then. These types of videos always draw me in to this world of intrigue behind MMO societies. For the average person though, it's not nearly as scandalous and exciting as the stuff you hear about in videos (like massive battles on EVE online). For example, any time I've tried to play a Gmod RP server of any kind, I can never so much as even comprehend how to do anything since most give little to no explanation of what a player is supposed to do.
This was normal behaviour back in the wild west that was the internet back then. So this online game failed, Project Olympus was going to be online too (except EA panicked and made it into Sims4) and now Sims 5 is gonna be an online game?! EA need to focus on making a game that works, not building online stuff that is doomed to fail eg. EA Land, Sim City and Project Olympus. I still can't believe people paid $10 a month to play Sims Online! That's more expensive than a streaming service😂 Let's see how pricing goes for Project Rene because Sims Mobile was too expensive to play.

It was such a toxic game. I only played during the Beta. It turned me off of MMOs for a long time, and it wasn't even my first. All i know is some woman from the UK kicked me out as a roommate a few days after i gave her all my starting capital. I did much better on the other server, when i built a place myself.

This was a blast from the past. I had forgotten all about the "hit" aspect of tagging a person as an enemy and getting out of there before they tagged you back. Dumb game but I did make some friends on there at the time and had some fun.

For what it's worth, it was SUPER SUPER easy to avoid a red-link. The greatest risk of getting one was if you tended to idle and afk at the same time. I had gotten into a sim-relationship with a gal who turned out to be the moll of one of the dons, so of course he and his gang gunned for me, yet I never once got a red balloon. As I said, the trick was to not idle afk, and generally, try not to idle in public in general. The giving of a red balloon would only go into your queue if you were already doing something, the person giving it would still have to wait for your queue to get to them giving you the balloon. ... and you could cancel the interaction while it was in your queue. In fact, the other sim would usually just stand there and wait while your queue was completing, so someone else could even then coordinate with you so that they would select giving the other person a red balloon at the exact moment that you cancelled the interaction in your own queue. So, yeah, it was mostly just role playing, though it is true that some of the people did get emotional about it anyway.
TSO was a wild ride for me. I made a best friend for life as well as got bullied and stalked by two psychos. Edit to add: I also remember the "naked" CC patch thing.
I vaguely remember hearing about TSO back then but all I remember was reading about how there were problems with brothels and things like that going on. Speaking of online, I remember Bustin' Out had an online feature but since we didn't know how to connect our PS2 to the internet, we never got to play it. Do you know what it was about or what you could do in it?
I remember playing this. The atmosphere was giving dark vibes and I was called a racial slur by some bullies. It didn’t feel like there would be any consequences for people with bad behavior. I don’t remember there being a presence of moderators.
I remember watching the trailer for The Sims Online over and over again on one of the expansion pack discs for The Sims 1. Unrelated, but i also remember The Sims Hot Date coming with a playable demo of Sid Meier's SimGolf.
when I was like 12 I was playing this game way too seriously. I immediately discovered there was a mafia and so I began acting brand new. I moved to the us from Sicily and it never mattered until I entered the sims world. I ended up using it against a lot of people by speaking Italian and pulling a ton of rank. I was destroying other people’s lots, collecting the money, and ruining weddings. Then I had a bunch of people under me and people pretending to be girls trying to get close to me. I was 12 and making serious threats against people’s accounts and acting grown. It’s funny because one day I logged off and completely forgot about it until now.

I just bought The Sims 3 on Steam and got Late Night and Supernatural, I’m already having a blast again. Can’t wait to get the rest of the DLC again.

this is amazing!! I can't wait for part 2! I never played online as i didn't have internet access in my home at the time so hearing about all this crazyiness happeneing is really interesting. I just finished the soprano's series so seeing that JCS call his goons "mafians" made me laugh so hard xD
@realjcsoprano honestly, it was nice to be left to fill in the blanks. I'm glad it's over. To me, RIP Tony. It felt rushed but I liked the ending. My mother was unimpressed, she felt it was underwhelming.

The drama was actually caused by adults playing TSO, people in their 30s and 40s having online affairs, and some pervs would DM minors asking to role-play 18+, that's why people will trash their places. I do remember those days, when I used to be in a family mafia, we were around 15-17. The hub links were friendship balloons, red was for the enemy and green was for the best friend. Easily avoided by having your queue full or your sim under the AFK interaction. Had a bunch of online friends in different cities. The game was actually super fun. Jumping in different lots.
As a designer in SL, I can tell you that there is also a MASSIVE issue of Sims creators stealing SL content (like hair and clothing) and porting it to the Sims to sell or give away and take full credit for the creation.
Its the same way with Sims cc and it falling into GTA online too
the same is also true the opposite direction, tho not as much or well noticed.
This feels like a foreshadowing of our future in virtual gaming tbh lol

I wanted to say I'm surprised these happened to sims online, but after remembering how people scam, fraud, tra***ing villagers, extort others for having stars tree in animal crossing back in the craze, and how my friends and I had once successfully manipulated and price fixed a virtual commodity in an mmorpng and became filthy rich in game, I'm not surprised anymore. Guess these type of drama happens inevitably on virtual worlds when greeds and egos are involved.

SL has chilled tf out over the years though. (probably cause it is slowly dieing >.>) I never actually got in to TSO, Though I wanted too, but I have always been pretty poor and I was REALLY poor back then. The only reason i even had a computer was because my dad got me a pc when i was in highschool, and I got to keep it and take it with me when i moved out. I feel like i might have dodged a bullet though seeing all these stories. lol

These types of videos always draw me in to this world of intrigue behind MMO societies. For the average person though, it's not nearly as scandalous and exciting as the stuff you hear about in videos (like massive battles on EVE online). For example, any time I've tried to play a Gmod RP server of any kind, I can never so much as even comprehend how to do anything since most give little to no explanation of what a player is supposed to do.

So this online game failed, Project Olympus was going to be online too (except EA panicked and made it into Sims4) and now Sims 5 is gonna be an online game?!
EA need to focus on making a game that works, not building online stuff that is doomed to fail eg. EA Land, Sim City and Project Olympus.

It was such a toxic game. I only played during the Beta. It turned me off of MMOs for a long time, and it wasn't even my first. All i know is some woman from the UK kicked me out as a roommate a few days after i gave her all my starting capital. I did much better on the other server, when i built a place myself.

i don't remember sims online being popular. early 2000s online times were kinda a chaotic time, many were released but many of those failed quickly.
Haven’t finished video yet but just want to say that sims online may be gone but someone made a game called freeSo which is basically sims online . Like the graphics are same and idea of it .

This was a blast from the past. I had forgotten all about the "hit" aspect of tagging a person as an enemy and getting out of there before they tagged you back. Dumb game but I did make some friends on there at the time and had some fun.

For what it's worth, it was SUPER SUPER easy to avoid a red-link. The greatest risk of getting one was if you tended to idle and afk at the same time. I had gotten into a sim-relationship with a gal who turned out to be the moll of one of the dons, so of course he and his gang gunned for me, yet I never once got a red balloon.
As I said, the trick was to not idle afk, and generally, try not to idle in public in general. The giving of a red balloon would only go into your queue if you were already doing something, the person giving it would still have to wait for your queue to get to them giving you the balloon.
... and you could cancel the interaction while it was in your queue. In fact, the other sim would usually just stand there and wait while your queue was completing, so someone else could even then coordinate with you so that they would select giving the other person a red balloon at the exact moment that you cancelled the interaction in your own queue.
So, yeah, it was mostly just role playing, though it is true that some of the people did get emotional about it anyway.

The Sims Online is back under the name FreeSO its 100% free to play now, however there is no mafia anymore and is a bit boring as it has become dead.
At least the mafia is not there anymore to harass players
TSO was a wild ride for me. I made a best friend for life as well as got bullied and stalked by two psychos.

I remember playing this. The atmosphere was giving dark vibes and I was called a racial slur by some bullies. It didn’t feel like there would be any consequences for people with bad behavior. I don’t remember there being a presence of moderators.

Unrelated, but i also remember The Sims Hot Date coming with a playable demo of Sid Meier's SimGolf.
when I was like 12 I was playing this game way too seriously. I immediately discovered there was a mafia and so I began acting brand new. I moved to the us from Sicily and it never mattered until I entered the sims world. I ended up using it against a lot of people by speaking Italian and pulling a ton of rank. I was destroying other people’s lots, collecting the money, and ruining weddings. Then I had a bunch of people under me and people pretending to be girls trying to get close to me. I was 12 and making serious threats against people’s accounts and acting grown. It’s funny because one day I logged off and completely forgot about it until now.
