Its been said before and I'll say it again, do one of these for senior dogs please. puppies are sweet, but puppies can get adopted easily. There are so many sweet, loving, deserving old dogs out there that are truly deserving of homes, and with a platform like yours you could get them adopted instantaneously.
I was thinking the same thing!
Exactly…every SINGLE segment of this it’s puppies …sickening crap
North Shore boils my blood. They are not a rescue shelter. They do not take strays or problem dogs. They take "family give-ups", primarily litters of puppies and kittens from irresponsible owners who fail to spay and neuter their pets. They claim to be a no-kill shelter. In actuality they ship un-adoptable animals to be killed at kill facilities. For many years they had a sweetheart deal with New York City's public shelter which until a couple of decades ago was the A.S.P.C.A. They traded old, sick and undesirable animals for cute, young and purebred animals. (The A.S.P.C.A. is no longer the official City shelter -- it is a private non-profit. I don't know if New York's Animal Care Center currently euthanizes North Shore's rejects.) Over the last several decades there have been exposes about North Shore, including one that revealed million-dollar salaries for members of its board of directors, and that was back in the eighties if I remember correctly. In the early eighties I worked for a veterinarian who sat on the New York State Board for Veterinary Medicine. He spearheaded an unsuccessful effort to shut North Shore down for fraudulent practices. My most recent involvement with North Shore was about a dog I rescued and placed with a woman who tried to give it up to North Shore instead of honoring her commitment to contact me if it didn't work out. She only contacted me because North Shore said they "don't take dogs like that". The dog had housebreaking and separation anxiety issues common to rescue dogs. The puppies featured on the Late Show deserve good homes, no question, and I commend Mr. Colbert for helping them. I'd rather see him help organizations like the Humane Society or Bideawee or any of the highly deserving large and small private non-profits who do amazing work and are almost entirely volunteer. The only good thing I can say about North Shore is that I now live with the cutest, sweetest, funniest little dog in the neighborhood because I ended up keeping the rescue dog North Shore refused to rescue.
100% agree!,
That's a great idea, Eddard Stark.
🐾 The only thing that would make this segment better is to help out senior dogs & cats (separately, of course;) Senior animals have a much harder time finding homes
Yes! Hopefully the producers see this.
But they don’t chew your books and furniture and they don’t need to be potty trained ….😌🐶
yes! even ones that aren't senior - just 1 - 5 year old ones need love and a happy place more than puppies.
Exactly!! Puppers have an easier time, I think. Stephen should make a spot for older ones, he can lie about them too! :)
Yes, I TOTALLY AGREE!!!
I hope senior dogs will be featured in future episodes
they probably won't be because they aren't as cute and "awwwwww" inducing. it's TV and puppies are an easy way to get a good reaction out of the audiences.
CZcams commenters have been saying this for years, I don’t think they will listen unfortunately :/
Wow such an original comment!
Adopt senior dogs!! they are so awesome. I did it and they had no medical issues at all!
We just had to say goodbye to one of our pups last week. We found her playing in traffic and no one claimed her from the pound. She was already old, had pancreatitis , heart problems, and bad knees, and cost us more in the 4 years she was with us than our other 4 dogs cost us over 10 years. Best investment ever!! It was an honor and privilege to have her, however brief. Puppies are cute, but older dogs deserve love too! 💞
You're 😇Angels. 🙏🏼🌏🕊🕊🕊🍖🆓️🆙️
Thank you thank you thank you
I am getting a senior dog from a rescue group this Saturday. Eddard Stark, you are so right!
❤️❤️❤️
Happy to see all the shepherds. Let's see some big dogs, some seniors. Talk about their past lives.
I loved this! This segment should be done more often. He should have a segment on the dogs that have been waiting to be adopted the longest. ❤️🐶
That’s a great idea!! Hope they consider it.
Granted no one wants a puppy to sit at a shelter during their key developmental windows. But I find it hard to believe that no one wants these puppies.
Honestly a senior dog rescue would be nice. They need homes, and people tend to only want puppies.
Yes, the older, calmer, well trained dogs. Best dogs ever :)
I wish they would feature older dogs on here too, not just puppies
We need more bi-paw-itisan lawmakers like Senator Ruffkins!
Clever! 👍
If he was actually senator, he would be the most adorable one, and also about the 4th smartest.
"This dog created the add 30sec button on the microwave." Me: Good dog. 👍
Anyone else hear John whisper "Definitely" after Colbert says he is kind? ~47 Seconds in. A true friend there.
Everyone predicted that the shelters would be full once people didn't have time anymore.
I adopted a 3 year old dog who was discarded multiple times, poor thing.
Now he is 9
Pets don't lie. People do.
My dog is very sneaky and she lies too!
@@Misses-Hippy Haha - ours do, too. Mostly to each other when they want the better cushion. One of them whines and when s/he doesn't get the place, s/he goes outside and barks like hell so the other dog will come look. Then s/he sneaks back in and steals the cushion!
Except now it's getting harder. They figured out to bark from the cushion 😁😁
@@frizzlethecat2084 Very clever. Imagine, one day they'll have opposing thumbs!
@@Misses-Hippy God! They'd take the house down 😁
Puppies are easy to get adopted, do the segment with older dogs!
I got my beautiful boy when people abandoned him at 10 years. He was the best dog. He lived for another 7 years. Please rescue older dogs too. 🐶
@@Kreizi1 foster care children should be in care until they are truly adults. It’s ridiculous that we do this to young adults with trauma.
Jason and puppies. Best day ever!
No one is ever not going to adopt a puppy, these dogs will be scooped up immediately with this highlight or not. It really needs to be for senior dogs and dogs having a hard time finding a home, this segment could make it a forever home for those pups that need it most
Let’s also rescue senior dog and those with special needs! ❤️
This is one of the best segments a talk show has ever come up with.
Jason is so kind. And handsome 💙🐕
Thanks Bartleby! That is totally my favorite button on the microwave!
it's really the only one you need
@@luciferangelica o
I have no idea who who Jason Sudeikis is but those puppies are adorable.
I love adopting senior animals as well. Much respect to Mr. Jason Sudeikis,
Ravi Peiris M.D.
The only bad thing about this segment is that it was necessary because with the return to work "the shelters are filling up again". That broke my heart. Hope all these sweeties get adopted quickly
That’s not even the reason. The reason is the eviction moratorium lifting so people are losing their homes.
There are several reasons. A major factor is new pet owners not spaying and neutering. Or breeders discarding pets they've overbred.
I appreciate what you are doing, but older dogs need this far more than a puppy
Lol, what I find funny is that Americans have taken on the 'save the dogs' mantra. But they slaughter other animals every day with no thought or concern for what they go through. And I'm not a vegetarian. Just pointing out the hypocrisy.
As an older dog, I appreciate that.
@@jenniferlawrence9473 lol are you saying this on everything single comment to this video about rescuing dogs?
I'd rather see puppies. Can't have a dog, rather live vicariously with pups.
Well, of course these beautiful little pups are going to get adopted... They're puppies! I would like to see the segment with some older dogs next time
This is great. But if like to see them promote older and special need dogs.
Comments re: older dogs. Completely agree!!! Sadly this felt like an effort to clear the pens of the puppies because they know a load of olders are about to be returned.
Well here it is. The cutest thing I have ever seen.
The band was on FIRE, good lord that intro music was great. Jon Batiste and Stay Human, everyone 👏👏👏
I think everyone already knows that All dogs go to heaven...
Yes do senior dogs!!
"Ted Lassie" is AWESOME and TED LASSO is my FAVORITE show!
Keep up the great work Jason 👏👏👏
We only adopted 10 and older. Plenty available fixed trained loving. May not have a lot of time but it's precious.
Stay Human = the absolute best TV program musical ensemble!
"He doesn't see red states or blue states. He sees only gray states. Because he is a dog." Run, dog, run. Run for Congress!
We already have a blue dog who only sees gray states: senator Joe Manchin.
"Dogs can only see blue, yellow and some shades of gray"
@@Mythraen 👏🏼😅 knew someone would say this!
@@Mythraen Dogs also see reds as brown.
Wonderful idea for a bit. Older dogs are the ones who need help finding a home, maybe you could help them. Puppies are generally easy to adopt out. But the idea is brilliant! Thanks for being part of the solution.
Stephen you are an inspiration. You keep this old guy Laughing and being grounded. I am the proud companion of a special needs pup. She keeps me going with her love of life and all things in nature. You and her bring joy , thanks
It really angers me how the people that bought the puppies during the pandemic would just return them back to the shelter after things are settling down. You don't buy a pet just to make yourself feel good; it's a lifelong commitment. No wonder Colbert prefers animals over people.
I totally prefer animals to people.
I'm not sure that was actually the implication when they stated that. While I'm sure that scenario could (and probably does) happen. There is really no shortage of animals who are in need of homes simply due to how many are born each year. So if people are heading back to work and are less likely to want to adopt a pet, this causes the adoption rates go down, which in turn causes shelters to once again become full, regardless of the dogs being "returned".
Didn’t even know this was happening, or that people actually would do that.
That’s awful 👎🏼
@@SnakekillerX Obviously, you can't stop shelters from being overcrowded but if you absolutely do want a pet, it's a commitment you have to be invested in, emotionally, financially, etc. They're not toys that you can throw away after you're done with them.
@@HBarnill Totally agree.
The best segment. 🐶💖
Band was on extra fire in that intro, especially the guitarist
It should not only be cute puppies, there are also a lot of middle age dogs that are given up by owners and ends up in the shelter & eventually put to sleep.
They should definitely be older dogs. The puppies have no problem getting adopted
Full grown dogs ..... and CATS need loving forever homes too.
ALL THESE DOGS NAMES ARE ADORABLE
Magic puppies, will bring you love,
happiness and be your bestfriend.
I don't know how they resist kissing them on the top of the head when they're holding them 🥰
Full of love in the air. I really like this segment, it's humanitarian and hilarious. Good job, Stephen and Jason
The vulture part was priceless.
This segment has be on every show
I love dogs.
Wish I could take them all. Thank you Colbert for doing this.
May they all find great and permanent homes. Don't adopt if ya cannot promise forever.
Cuteness overlooooooad 🤩
I'll take the vultures, great birds, great ecologists, great disease control, completely underrated and often vilified
Yes, you're a real smart feller, now shut up and sit down.
They find their own food as well.
And smart!
Very cuddly at night 😂
Agreed. Also don't have to worry about feeding them a lot.
They should tell the audience not to scream during this segment. It scares the pups. Gentle "aws" and applause is fine, buy yells are too much.
Hope they all get great homes!
they should make it illegal to use children or animals in show business. maybe dogs or horses under certain circumstances
@Firefly they'd have to outlaw yo mama
❤️❤️ I hope all of them get loving forever homes.
Jason had me at the Blue Man Group story but rescuing puppies???? Lifetime fan ❤️❤️
Those beagle/cattle dog mixes were ADORABLE!!!😍
Precious.💕
Vultures are intelligent, important to the environment, surprisingly gentle and generally underrated animals.
So yes, if there're vultures to be rescued, I'd like one.
...
If nothing else it'd worry the nearby seagulls.
Just 3 hours ago I watched a very good video about how vultures are the incredibly important janitors of the environment because they can eat basically anything even slightly rotting meat so they keep rotting infectious meat from poisoning the ground and the water that other animals drink along with many other great gross things they do. There's that bader minehoff phenomena again
Because it's so hard to get puppies adopted. Bring on old loving dogs that need a forever home.
Love this rescue !!!!
I love the bit with the pup nom noming the cam
I love this segment-best part of the show.
Thank you for helping shelter dogs 🐾🐾
Listen to that crowd!
What a way to start the day, watching the rescue dog shows one after the other until the eyes close from constant laughter.
Thank you!!!
Such adorable puppies
What a love
That's some crippling cuteness.
I wish this was a real show I could watch 24/7. I need more happy like this !
Invented the 30sec button in microwaves?!?
Fuck yeah
the only one i ever use
Mine also has the start 1, 2, 3 minute buttons.
You learn every day something new...
@@luciferangelica Same.
Add 30x and then pulled open when ready. Works for everything I ever try.
I would take them all for a one night roll in the hay with Jason 😍
This reminds me of SNL’s Whiskers R We with Kate McKinnon. Lol
Sen Ruffkins' quote made me laugh harder than I thought I would.
Might be from how cute the puppies all are but still
Those dogs are adorable !
I love this segment, but I think there needs to be a major change and that is to try and help "less adoptable" dogs get adopted. Everyone wants a puppy. I understand it is better for TV, but bring in puppies with handicaps, or pitbuls/mixes who need help getting homes. Helping get Pitbuls and mixes out of shelters and into loving homes, they need it
So adorable!
Love, love, love Ted Lasso.Man Ted Lasso looks so good without the mustache! Lmao
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 hope they find a forever home....a good loving one
Love this segment...I want them all.
My favorite segment !!
Thank you!
Senator Ruffkins looks exactly like my aussie/german shepherd.
Ur dog’s a Senator!
But that's impossible
@@justinbeechey232 how is that impossible?
@@salilbhatnagar he's actually the speaker of the house :D
That was adorable
His sweater reminds me of the episode of Friends where Ross wears a woman's sweater
so in Poland we do have that stand up comedian Karol Modzelewski with his weekly news and segment named Psinder (game of words: tinder and psy - dogs in polish) and every week he shows dog from shelter... but not puppies - dogs all ages. And still most of them are adopted ♥ this always break my heart a little, because I work to much to live with a dog, and it lift up my heart that there are people who still trying to help
Jason needs puppy loving ❤
Adorable
Lovely.
This man is compassionate, good with dogs and in my opinion did the best carpool karaoke ever with The Muppets....2nd fav is Bruno Mars....I even got Apple TV for that one episode of carpool karaoke 🤣
Simp much?
Aw so cute
WHAT IS THIS?!?!🐶 Fantastic is what it is. 😁👍
5:50 😍🥰 Oh my gosh! He's got the camera!
Ahhh yes! My absolute favorite segment 😍
Thanks for helping. Spay neuter adopt & foster✌️💙🐕
PLEASE NEVER STOP DOING THIS
I know this makes me seem superficial and petty, but I love Colbert in a suit and a great haircut.
With that shirt Sudekis looks like he's on some weird 80s kids show
It’s what he wore for the audition to replace Steve on Blue’s Clues.
Haha I was thinking the same thing!
It's bizarre to see these puppies and feel the combination of "naaaaw, cuuuute" and *red-hot rage at horrible adopters who get "corona pets"*.
Corona pets? Little lost at the reference.
@@abulyasahasanlodi1722 Lots of people got pets during lockdown and are now getting rid of them.
@@edricaldones9639 Idiots every last one of them.
