I was looking for reviews on this as I'm getting a bottle and just wanted to see what to expect. As a fishmonger and lover of odd foods It's right up my alley I think. However, I was a bit shocked to see someone that both looked and sounds exactly like my grandfather did. He would have probably gotten a kick seeing his doppelganger and trying this drink rest his soul. I look forward to tasting that spicy kick and helping to reduce the invasive population with my purchase. Wish you peace and many healthy years, cheers

Just opened my bottle tonight. It's unlike any whisky I've ever drank. The nose is very upfront with the briny crab seasoning. Feel they've added even more cinnamon & ginger with some pepper. You do get cloves & allspice elements with a muddled amount of vanilla. I'm willing to say maple over caramel, considering the strong amount of other drinks from Tamworth Distilling are heavily influenced using maple. Now, before I speak about the palate, I really appreciate the higher amount on the ABV, coming in at 46%. That makes it a true whisky, as whisky needs to be at least 40% or 80 proof to be considered whisky.
With the palate, it's immediately reminiscent of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky. I'd say this is less sweet an more reliant on the spices to carry the drink, and it does this magnificently. You get the sensational taste of a crab seasoning, so spices of cinnamon, ginger, pepper, corn, parsley, cloves, mustard seeds, paprika, bay leaf, amongst other spices you'd typically find. It's difficult to say which spices, as they used a homemade mixture that they put into their bourbon cask. Regardless, they did a marvellous job getting what you smell to carry an transition onto your palate. It's not very often you come upon beverages that carry & transition how you'd imagine them to taste based upon how they smell. Behind all the spices I find the maple & vanilla and even further behind those are that American Oak. Took several sips before I found them. It's not easy to pick them out. I'd really say to let the drink breath & allow the maple & oak to open up more.
The finish is delectably spicy. You get to enjoy the sensational spices of cinnamon, allspice, cloves, amongst other spices that are just elevated. It's not overpowering on the spices either, but it packs heat. This would serve as a great winter beverage, a nice drink to share up on deck on a cold night, around a campfire, or even a nice drink to have at dinner.
Lastly, first time watcher of the channel & appreciate your review. Subscribed & clicked that notification bell. Enjoy the laid back approach. Also, love the knowledge you had to share. I didn't realize that Tamworth used hops for their Gin. So already learned something new. And I got to give you props for breathing technique to elevate taste on the palate as well as chewing the drink. Later tonight, I'll go back to this and see if anything else opens up with the addition of a little water, as well as chilled. Sometimes it imparts new elements or heightens existing ones, and if not it either doesn't change or you lose elements, which is a little sad. Be that as it may, I love to find & test the best way to enjoy the drink for myself. Clearly not everyone is going to have the same preference & that's alright. Drink your drink the way you like and enjoy drinking it.

Nope! The crab broth is used in the mash that makes the beer that is distilled into the whisky.
