The irony with this is that although digital streaming is pretty great, if anything goes wrong with the connection, your movie experience is toast. Also, it's tough to decide whether to "buy" or "rent", and subscriptions are just way too ridiculous.

Region locking is such bullshit! I hate it! It should be one version for all countries!
Abbie Fogarty Region coding is due to the difference in how televisions in other countries process video images and sound codecs you moron.
Because the player can compensate for the differences in how the televisions work. I should have mentioned in my other comment that region coding was bigger deal whenever analogue televisions still dominated the market. Now digital televisions can use almost any digital file type and not need the player to compensate for them.

+Greg B. LOL you think that's bad? I once borrowed a Hotel for Dogs DVD at my local library which skipped pretty much through the ENTIRE MOVIE! Even the main menu got fucked up at one point. Someone must have really previously damaged that DVD before I got hold of it.

what I really loathe is when either the packaging or the menus spoil a big surprise of the movie. doesn't anyone realize that not everyone that buys a dvd (or back in the days: rented it) hasn't seen the film yet? wtf?!
If anyone has a Disney DVD, they might have an option of using FastPlay or just getting to the DVD menu.
If you start a dvd and press stop twice, then press play again, and most DVD players will take you strait to the movie.
Haha. The widescreen/full screen issue was responsible for one of my most anger inducing DVD purchases. Years ago I bought Scarface from Walmart, it had this nice special edition type packaging and, when I gave it quick look over, thought it was widescreen.WRONG! Found out after I had opened and tried to play it that it was fullscreen. Found tiniest lettering on spine of box claiming fullscreen. WAS...NOT...IMPRESSED.
Trust me, it's even worse when you buy a widescreen DVD, only to discover that it's non-anamorphic widescreen.
I miss open matte DVDs.
Now that's bullshit. All movies should always be in widescreen if they were made that way.
The funny/weird thing is, the FS release of Terminator 3 actually has more real estate than the WS version. The 4:3 version is usually cropped (pan and scan) from the WS film, but that film is the only one I have that works that way.
