    I know this video is a couple years old. I still felt the need to leave a comment. You really had a sharp-looking Land Rover. You change the factory look just enough to stick out from the crowd.
    I'm not normally someone who likes non factory wheels. I like what you put on there. I do say out of everything you did and one of the easiest things you did was the tire cover.
    I also can appreciate you using a name brand which. A lot of people buy a discount version for a couple hundred dollars and then wonder why it broke down the first time they'd go to use it.
    I definitely hit the big old thumbs up and I hit your subscribers button.

    Good to see more people building up these later model Land Rovers. I have a 2014 TDV6 and a 2005 4.4L petrol V8. You've done a few of the same mods as me and cool to see some great aussie products finding their way over to your side of the world.

      These LR4s are great platforms. I wish we had access to the TDV6 engines in the LR4, but they skipped the LR4 and are only available in the Range Rovers or D5's. Good news is the V8 is pretty robust...

    Great video. I like every thing you’ve done and the reasons given. Your LR4 was adopted by a great owner.
    I also have been looking for a CarPlay solution. The older videos that I’ve seen from that company had me concerned that it’s not a mature product. However, I can see from your LR that they’ve worked out the bugs. The 265/65 R18 KO2s look fantastic.
    I may go for the SYA strut spacers to get me 2 inches of lift without needing to always run with the bags at a high pressure, which causes a rougher ride.

    The LLams lift kit is very interesting and different from what the others do, if i'm not mistaking it is using up the space of the steering wheel adjuster? Is the V8 the better choice vs the v6 in terms of reliability? How about fuel economy for when you go off road with the v8?

    • @westla4x483
      @westla4x483  Před 3 lety +1

      The V8 and the SCV6 sold in the USA are similar and prone to most of the same issues. They are pretty robust engines and don't have a lot of the same problems European vehicles from the same era are starting to have. Fuel economy is essentially the same for both engines, although the SCV6 is a negligibly better. I get between 10-13 off-road, 15 city / 18 highway. Having driven both, I prefer the V8 based on the extra horsepower and sound. But they are both great - the only thing with the SCV6 is that you lose the two-speed transfer case unless you get the HD package. All V8's have a two-speed transfer case regardless.

      Most LR4's with the 5L have the old timing chain guide design. The issue is at around 100k miles the engine might go out of time, the timing chain will need to be done just the parts are $1800 and an independent mechanic will charge at least $2500 most likely 3k and the repair bill by the time you get out(they'll replace some other stuff while there in there) is like 6k at a dealer it's closer to 9K in most major cities. The V6 has the updated timing chain design and the reports of timing chain failures are far less common on the V6 but you have a super charger to worry about. The V8 is the better driver but if the chains haven't been done just figure in the 5k repair, unfortunately in the states we didn't get the 3L diesel which has some issues of it's own but nothing as bad as the timing chain repair. I'm surprised the prices of these LR4's hasn't taken a huge hit because of this as most are nearing that 100-130k mile mark where this repair needs to be done. If you buy one make sure it has been well maintained and is low mileage or has already had the engine tear down. Or just get a very cheap LR3 and upgrade it(you can do a lot to make it better, esp for off-road use), the 4.4L seems to more reliably make it to 200-250k miles without a tear down and the timing chain tensioner again is the weak spot but you can get a kit for less than $500 and the labor is a bit less so you can do chains on the 4.4 for less than 3k if needed and you can actually get a complete overhauled 4.4L engine for $3500 with new chains from Roverlandparts.

    • @westla4x483
      @westla4x483  Před 3 lety +4

      Land Rover's become a lot more reliable once the LR3 came out. As an owner of a 90's Land Rover product, I can attest to the night and day difference. I wouldn't say they're more unreliable than other European vehicles from the era. You don't hear of 2005+ Land Rovers constantly leaving people stranded unless they're really neglected. The key to success is not buying a Land Rover with 150k miles, 5 owners, and most importantly, years of deferred maintenance. If you keep up with preemptive maintenance, use quality parts and quality mechanics, they can run deep into the 200k mile + range. I know a guy with a V8 LR4 that's been meticulously maintained and is still daily driven / used off-road and I can't believe how nice it still behaves.
