Thank you Marco for all your inspirations. I've painted my whole e30 in my garage using the cheap LVLP gun and the small vervor compress after watching a lot of your videos. It came out not bad apart from a few runs. It's no show quality but it did saved me a lot of money. Thank you so much again
Nice!
Marco Killin it. Something to be said for a budget single stage driver paint job. Can’t beat it
Thanks!
Enjoying the old schools on the channel.lately! They can be a lot of work. Got a 68 Dart GT convert job in right now. Owner has it stripped down. Everything is off. Making my life a bit easier for a change!
A last note: cutting expenses! Using the cheese grater like you, using my metal and plastic cups instead of pps. (But i am using the little paint cup filters everyone says don't use😂) Using Speedokote clear can save $$ but can still be trusted. Looking for the best value for my money. Thanks Joe👍
These body fillers saved me so much time on this job. As well as the sand paper
Great camera work very clear instructions this is a great video thx. I have to do the exact same job to my 63 Cadillac and this video def built my confidence now that I saw how to do it. Keep them videos coming
Thank you!
Thank you for these videos it's been 20 years since i painted cars. Lol getting ready to paint my 1948 f1 pickup
Nice!
Beautiful job. Keep up the good work.
Love the rifle leaning up against the vehicle in the background 👍
We have them in every space of the shop. We are not a social justice warrior CZcams page. We believe in Constitutional rights 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for noticing! Lol
Oh boy is that a sweet El Camino! One of my dream cars!
It's sick
Thank you for your inspiration! I am working on my 1969 High Boy F250 and I will do a single stage paint. It is my first time!
Nice!
I'm impressed with how you paper your vehicles off and you make sure your paint.color doesn't get on.under carriage
Yea sometimes I do that. Sometimes I don't just depends
I started with single stage when I was 24, dupont centari. I'm 58, trained in base coat clear coat but hats off to you on the single stage!! Looks fantastic!
I love both but single jingle definitely is superior for solid colors for budget jobs
@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 it's been years since I've used single stage and quite a difference between single stage and base coat clearcoat. However, my landlord has a 58 edsel " chaulk pink" I may be painting for him and he's ordered single stage for it.
@@robertepley4339 best of luck with it!
Nicely done Marco, as you say for a quick single stage job it looks amazing. I've seen a few of you good folks in the USA using the cheese grater and they do look like they work well plus save a little money but for some reason you don't see many people using them over here in the UK but I really don't see why that is🤔🤷♂👍John UK
It's not a common tool in many shops 😂
Great job as always! Super nice car. Looks fantastic
Thanks 🥰🥰🥰
Reeeeally makes me wanna slowly gather all my beginners supplies and needs and tackle my own lol.. came out damn good 👌🏼
At least start with a test panel! That's a great start
Nice Video. I really dont see many classic cars been painted. Some just Show the results but never while painting. I only see new cars painted. Great job thanks!
Thanks!
Hell yeah scratch and spray is my favorite, everyone with a classic wants laser straight and a glass finish but they don’t have the paper to match their desires. Keep it realistic and keep it moving.
Ain't this true 😂😂😂😂 people want a 30k paint job for 5k
Pfffff most can't afford the paint let alone the work!
Yup
👀 Nice oldschool project man. I have the same year and was hoping to get it into paint this year but won't. Single stage has always been a thorn in my side for large projects but as always great content 🏁🏁🏁.
Try getting the slowest activator possible.
Great job on the El Camino Brother!
Thanks!
Great video as always. Considering it was hot that little run isn't bad at all. Didn't know the sunlight from a window had that much affect.
Yea I was shocked I can self diagnose paint problems pretty quick.
He's one of the most scientific minds we have today. 😎
It looks very nice. Thank you for the video
Thanks!
Great job as always
Thanks!
I got a 72 ranchero im workin on, putting a LSA and 6l90e in.. im worried about painting, but less so the more i watch these.
Gonna daily it for my construction business on bids..
Nice job. Is looking nice.
Thanks!
Looks good man!
Would like to see the truck put together. Get a true prospective. Great work!
Masterpiece...as usual😮 Keep On Truckin' Maestro😮💯👀👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Trying bro!
I plan on using single stage...you said you laid it on pretty thick. You think letting it tack up more...it wouldn't of had issues. Thanks bro...keep em coming!
Meehhh I definitely think right activator choice with single stage is truly the key
@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 ok cool...thank you!
That first coat was heavy heavy...hence the huge run on the fender. I didn't see any medium coat come out of that gun. Not a big fan of painting over dings and dents either. I remember when I first started painting. Keep trying and learning , you will get there. Overall if the customer is happy we are all happy.
You ain't been here a while, clearly.
I've made it very clear in all my videos that I have every capability to get a 10-30,000$ finish on a car but I do what I'm paid to do. Every single car it's going to get a different amount of attention.
Running it off in the floor doesn't seem capable .. but what ever. Clearly I won't be be here any length of time. Good Luck.@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937
Wow. Reality bites
What I use to do when spraying enamel was after it was tacking up I would mist a clean lacquer thinner over the final coat of paint. A quick mist. What it does is re-melt the paint and take away orange peel.
Emphasize "Light mist" over the car. But it works and saves sanding and is really glossy after.
Now THIS is some scientific shhiiiiiii right here 🤣🤣🤣
Its looks good mark keep cranking them out
Thanks!
Looks amazing
Appreciate it 🙂
Look great. I will try your tips on my next bodywork job.
Get speedokote fillers and sand papers... You will cut your body work time in half. Thank me later.
Ss5007
Smr15
Thank I will try it.
I tried single stage once.I love the results from base clear better and I’m a novice or under experienced but I still try
I'm a single stage addict. If it's a solid color 70% of the time I'm going single stage
That look Great !!!!!
Thanks!
Wet sand a single stage and clear it. Beautiful.
Yes
Good job👍
Thanks!
i need a paint on my 98 Honda Accord Ex 😊 my Daughter and Wife loves this car has taken us everywhere and would like to keep doing that with my newborn Son 🎉
I'm available if your serious 🙂
My cheese grater is one of my most important tools but you needto hot it right before it sets up.... it need to be tacky and sticky... then you can get to work with it and its amazing 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Yup it's a very sweet spot with that tool have to know what your doing
Hey still looks really good nice video
Thanks!
Still some good work
For 400 keep up the good work
Thanks a lot. Not my best job but also far from my worst
My '68 is gonna need a lot more than that, unfortunately... it's very cancerous... but I'll get it there one day...
A little metal flake and some dangle balls you'd have a real love machine.
That cheese grater was awesome
I'm both excited and scared to attempt painting a car in single stage 😂
That is a big vehicle to prep and spray, nice work 👍
Get medium or slow activator. ONLY time I use fast activator now is in the dead of winter.
I don’t know how many times I talk to the screen watching body work videos, asking why aren’t these people using a cheese grater!? Happy to see one in use.
It's a old school tool. None of the new age guys use it.
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 shit…guess I’m officially old.
@@vintagespeedandperformance6615 😂😂
Looks good dude.
Appreciate it!
That red is on fire 🔥. Could you have used base coat clear coat over this? And why didn't you? Looks good 👍🏿
Could have clear coated it. Yes. However it was a budget job
I painted 3 cars with single stage. Two of them came out good, the one was metallic paint and it turned out really bad. The solid colors seemed to be a lot easier to paint.
I've done single stage mettalic and had it come out like glass. All just depends on temperature and what speed activator your using
Very nice guy. Say when your spraying say a hood and at the end of the hood on both sides do u lift up on the trigger at the edge of the hood them press it on quickly again when you go back the opposite direction? Or you keep the trigger pressed the whole time.😮 Thanks.
Usually trigger on whole time
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 awesome and thank you
Nice. I'd like to see that in a metallic pearl base/clear. 👍
It's coming
Awesome!!
Thanks buddy
#LGB! Love Grating Bondo. Throwback to the cheesgrater!
LOL the old heads were onto something with this. I dig it and will continue to use it
I like how you had fair skin before then redish pink skin after.
LOL YES
Not a fan of red cars but another superb job. The owner sure will stand out driving that around when he shows up.
Imagine if it has some SMR42 on it. It’d be like glass.
Yes smr 42 would have topped it off
Marco - I’ll be doing my 72 chevelle in a similar manner, at home (also a respray over old single stage red…). I have the same minor rust bubbles in a few spots at bottoms of the fenders. Can you share what process / products you did for a quick fix on this? Simple grind it out / epoxy primer / Fiberglass reinforced filler ? I know the purists will recommend cutting it out and patching with metal…..but I’m not trying to create a Barret Jackson car here! Thanks in advance - Love your real world videos!
Grind out as much rust as you can, fiber glass filler, sand flat, put out sf5003 over top, sand flat, ss2790g primer (ours) over top of that, sand flat, paint 🙂🙂🙂🙂
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937thanks, thats what I’m looking for! Should I seal the metal area with anything before applying filler, or just put the filler direct on the metal (no rust, that will be ground out as much as possible)
@@jerryhovet2991 you COULD put some self etch primer over any bare metal spots, we sell that in spray can! It works awesome. It's seriously a life saver around my shop for last minute touch ups / burn throughs before paint
Nice job!
Thanks!
Ice never sprayed single stage but could you use the masking tape trick to fix the runs the way you do with Base/clear?
Yes I just do that when I start sanding the runs . Then remove tape and move to 2000 and 3000
I have a question for you that may lead to some future content. In the beginning of the video you showed a rust spot, can you show how you remove, treat, and prep that spot? Looking for your take on cleaning up older stuff that you don't replace the metal on.
Grind, wire wheel, acid prime / self etch prime, filler, sand filler , prime , paint
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 after filler which type of primer?
Love el Camino's,still waiting for a new beetle to get sprayed
I'm sure one will come along sooner or later!!! 🙂
Looks okay, hot days just use a very slow reducer with your harder which will let it flow out better less orange peel. I started my career 45 yrs ago using straight enamel and slow reducer with harder! We sanded and buffed look like glass…but cutting it the paint would last long sun eat it up!
Anyway just my thoughts.
Yea I definitely messed up by using medium activator... Should have used slow.
Looks great nice work! Do you have a part number for that paint
It's speedokote race red. Can't miss it just type race red on site comes right up
@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 cool thank you
Have a link to the exact red you used for this car? Beautiful job
It's speedokote race red found at www.speedokote.com
Reason the older cars peeled was cause had laqure primer under paint that had hardener ,they egg shell
Bro! That's a Factory Finish back in the 60s and 70's :) I'm a Ford Guy but that El Camino looks great! Drop in a Ford 429 Big Block and I'll be happy... Watching Chevy Guys lose their freaking minds of a Ford engine in a Chevy :) But how many Chevy 350's and LS motors are dropped into old Fords??
I loved this car that's for sure
I use a saw saw blade 😂 an old body man showed me the trick instead of the cheese grader.... is that kirker gallon that was my 1st paint I ever used
Heck yea!
Lovley shine
Do a metallic signal stage ,way different than non metallic
Marco do you get to keep the el camino now? Can you put a lien on it and get it titled in your name? thanks for the videos I've watched all of them.
It's at another shop
Diggin the cheese grater👍
Me to lol
So on single stage if you get a run you can finish putting coaots on and deal with it after
Yes absolutely . Super easy
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937
Brilliant I'm learning and watching you helps a lot thanks
I love it cause it's a cheap job I would do to my own car.
Absolutely!
how much time between coats 'layers ' i can't get full coverage with the first coat
Super weird iv always gotten full coverage first coat. About 10-20 min in between coats
With a single stage, is it usually one coat of primer and two coats of paint?
Nope. It's whatever you feel will work best.
Primer not always needed
Some guys do 2 coats of paint
Some 3
Some 4
It's all down to the user
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 Thanks.
What is that on the left fender by the door a run??
Yes I explained it in video
Hey brother - I have a few questions for you and I mean this with no disrespect (just curious). 1. Why did you not primer the whole car? 2. What psi do you shoot your primer at? 3. What psi do you shoot your paint at?
Thanks so much for your videos and humility. God bless you bro.
Ignore the haters!
Primer is almost never necessary spraying OUR brand single stage because it covers in one coat .
As long as surface is smooth and sanded your good.
Primer sealer I spray around 14-19 psi
Paint I spray between 14-23 psi.
It all depends on the paint, how thick , air temp , ect ect
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 awesome. Thank you for the knowledge. Keep grinding. You got this! 💪
How come so much orange peel this time around? Usually you lay it flat. Was the psi turned down, or was it the paint/activator?
I should have gotten slow activator. Small error.
If it was 10 degrees colder it would have been perfect. Came out with a little bit of peel, a few dirt nibs, still happy with it over all. Most painters would not attempt red single stage on a car this big it wasn't easy
The last truck I did with SS red was pretty peely. I wonder if it’s because reds use quite a few pigments. Anyways, thanks for the comment and I usually spray the jet black speedokote single stage with a ws400 and it lays out absolutely flat. Couldn’t be happier
@@Samwise71999 yes over all single stage is easier but harder in ways
hey man i have a 89 f150 that needs painted i’m a very inexperienced painter what would be the best easiest color to spray it with ?
Single stage solid color
Okay Thanks!
where is this guy located to buy cars?
Are you going to put clear on the single stage paint??
Not on this specific job
Polishes nice single stage.
I am FIRST!
WOWZZRRRRRSSS!! LOL!! was not expecting this 😂😂😂
Hope your weekend is going good man!!!
LMAO!
Brian, you're hilarious 🤣

Well I feel much better about my garage paint job I guess it happens to the best of us. You gotta keep your head up and keep on spraying it just paint ! Looks Great !
@@timhudson8958 yup just keep practicing
you didnt mention what kind of single stage paint you used. acrylic enamel? lacquer? urethane? rustoleum? what kind of paint?
It's mentioned in the video
I missed it. I watched the whole video. can you just tell us? @@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937
How long do you usually wait for the second coat ruff estimate?
About 10-15 min
Thanks buddy love your video's@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937
Shit I'll take one of those $400 paint jobs. Hit me up I have a 92 chevy k1500. No rust, just needs the bed painted to match the cab and a refresh
You didn't read my disclaimer did ya 😂🙂🙂🙂
Nice job were are you located what you you charge for a job like this
Located in Central pa.
I do estimates for 20$
I have a lot of my information in description what gun I used ect ect
Where can I get the music from
Is there a video on chipping paint
Yea I have quite a few up..
I'll summarize process
80 grit
180
320
Primer filler
Re sand with 180-320
Paint
I've seen some damn nice single stage paint jobs the last couple of years, no more $2000 PPG paint for us .
This all in all was right around 400 in material. Not much at all
What is the difference from single stage to other stuff? Painting looks simple but is way too complicated.
Single stage is much easier in ways. 2-3 coats of paint and YOUR DONE. I love it.
Base clear is automobile standard these days.
Nice would ve cool if u polished it
I'm sure down the road
Im likeing what i see with the single stage the smr 1150 im still wtf
Dude it's probably some moisture somewhere in your paint. I have the same issue with hazyness in clear if I got any kinds moisture in it. Smr1150 after 3 coats looks pretty dang good every time I've used it
9:56, look at that run on the front fender. That's why single stage is so great. You can just sand it down with no worries about burn through
EXACTLY MY POINT! single stage for solid colors IS SUPERIOR. but that's just the old school in me .
@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 I paused the video and made the comment when I saw it. You went on to explain it AND show the run after sanding it and buffing. Great content as always man.
@@thomasseiter9841 thanks!
@@lestersmith493 ok so your basically admiting you didn't watch the entire video? Because in the video there is clear as day proof I fixed it.
Your just not patient enough to watch lol. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
GOAT
I'm trying man!!!
What PSI are you shooting it on with?
Usually around 15-21 psi
Are you still offering the training course?
Yes taking fall applicants
Surprised to not see a sanding block in the entire video anywhere. 😮
Don't always have to use a block to get decant results. There's many many painters on CZcams who use da sander only for body work and get it looking decant. The trick is knowing how to use that sander to not make the surface wavy
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 I was just surprised that’s all. I’m a Autobody painter for 30 years, bodywork as well. You’re getting good results, and you do nice work but a bit of block sanding would take your work to the next level. Higher level finish more money you can charge! Keep going my brother 👍🏼
What products did you use?
Speedokote
Also see dents really take more time and do it right
You more than welcome to show me the best way
