    Sir , your analysis is spot on. to add to your analysis , the companies are also expecting too much from freshers. they expect freshers to join the company and straight up do the work of a 2 year experienced SE (at least that's what i felt after attending a few interviews) . this results in having shallow knowledge on multiple technologies and mastery in none , i cant fully blame them cause there is so much supply of freshers.

      You're absolutely right. This is a natural side effect of lesser demand and over supply. When companies get lots and lots of applications for open positions, they tend to fall into the mentality of "pay less get more". But we've to keep in mind we've seen a totally opposite situation 2 years ago, when companies were willing to hire a mediocre candidate even for senior positions (just because there weren't many candidates available).
      So hopefully in next 6-10 months situation will fall back to normal!

I am in Data Analytics and the data analytics field is experiencing significant overlap with developer and business analyst roles, leading to unrealistic job descriptions that expect proficiency in a vast array of technologies. Companies seem to be struggling to define clear boundaries, resulting in a "jack-of-all-trades" approach that can be overwhelming for job seekers and ultimately hinder specialization.

    you do not know a single job that was replaced due to AI, but surely that's not how it works. About High Interest rates- Do not totally agree. Sure a products market is impacted by the interest rates the way you said, but 80% of the market is not innovation based. So its not a good explanation for the slowdown in even the non-product/innovation market

    • @DrAnwarHaq
      @DrAnwarHaq  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Very interesting perspective Jon! So, if we go by your numbers, even if 20% product based companies stop hiring and start firing, that puts a lot of load on the remaining 80%, doesnt' it?
      Also, I'm working in a non-innovation based, very well established B2B tech company, and I trust me I'm seeing budget cuts in every department on almost daily basis. I'm also speaking with our comapy's big customers like big banks etc. Cost cutting is happening everywhere.
      The only reason I can think of this tight economic situation is, high interest rates.

    • @jonron3805
      @jonron3805 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@DrAnwarHaq Well if you see the Silicon valley(innovation hub) eco system the people in those companies rarely come into the non-innovtion hub. So the firing there does not impact the remining. Hiring on the other hand attracts people from the 80%.
      As far as the budget cuts go its cause the governent wants to cool down the economy so they are doing many things apart from interest rate management. Every country has done it in different ways, like cutting immigration, changing taxes, changing subsidies, etc. So I agree its the economy which is impacting stuff but interest rates is just one factor in the economy. I think the title should have been economy and not intereste rates.

  • @Albertkallal
    @Albertkallal Před měsícem +1

    Actually you left out one of the most important factors!
    The simple matter is that a company can only hire you if the cost of hiring you is LESS then what you cost.
    In other words, if I can hire you, and by hiring you, you can make my company $30 dollars per month? Then I will hire 1 million such developers, and I'll make 30 million dollars per month.
    Software is not really any different then people buying tires for their cars. As they drive the car, the tires wear out, so they buy new ones.
    Software is similar, but different then tires, since software does not rust, and does not actually wear out either!
    The other issue is of course cloud computing. I mean, a small town before the railroad arrived might have people making pots and pans. When the railroad arrived, then one factory in the country could make pots and pans for everyone - hence all those local pot and pan makers were laid off.
    Same goes for the rise of cloud computing. If I need some accounting system, well now I can just get that system in the cloud, and that person writing the software might be living in the outback of Australia - and in their spare time they hunt crocodiles.
    Same goes for software. The internet + cloud computing means that distribution of software is now near instant.
    I used to know companies in town that would write say a payroll system, or even some accounting system.
    Now? No company does that - they just go on-line and consume that software. So, keep in mind that like the railroad, the internet + cloud computing means that we have about 100x times too many developers.
    It will take about 10 years for the industry to re-organize. And giving some one off example like twitter? Please, that not the general example for software companies.
    Companies buy and consume software because the cost of buying that software saves them MORE then what the software costs.
    The same goes for a company hiring a developer. If you walk into a company, and by then hiring you, you can save them more then you cost?
    What company on the planet would not then hire you? They would be leaving money on the table by NOT hiring you!
    Companies don't hire developers because they want a developer. They hire a developer because that developer can produce more value then what they cost, and if a company keeps hiring people that cost more then what they save the company? The company will go bankrupt.
    Some of the big tech companies of course don't have to follow the above rule. Thus, some of them hired a whole bunch of people since they thought in the future they may well not be able to have the number of developers they need. That silly market aberration is now over.
    The simple matter?
    For MOST companies buying software?
    They ONLY buy such software if that software saves them MORE then what the software costs! Really kind of simple!
    And if they are buying and consuming software, then that means jobs for those developers.
    No company will buy such software, nor are they thus then going to hire a developer, or consume such software built by developers if it don't save them money.
    With the rise of cloud computing? Then distribution (like the railroad) has increased the reach of each developer by 100x.
    Right now, the industry thus have easy not 10x, but closer to 100x too many developers.
    So, I estimate that it will take about 10 years for the 100x too many developers we have to leave the industry, then, and ONLY then will the job market for developers stabilize.
    And speaking of railroad industry? When the diesel electric engines came along and replaced steam engines? Most rail yards pared their work force from say 5,000 workers in a rail yard down to 1000.
    Given that most general software like accounting, CRM, inventory etc. is now done, and can be consumed from the cloud?
    Then the number of developers required in our industry is drastic reduced.
    And that means for a company to hire a developer, that developer has to cost LESS then what they pay that developer - really only requires grade 3 math skills to figure this out.
    Since the internet and cloud computing allows wide distribution of software, then a local town has no need to hire you to build some accounting system when they can simply go on line and get such a system for low cost.
    We simply have WAY too many developers, and we are far from the software industry returning to the crazy days, much like the early days of the rail road industry which was booming for years, but it not anymore, and that applies to our software industry.
    Once the number of software developers drops by about a factor of 100, then the industry will return to balance, in which the number of developers leaving and the numbers of developers are entering returns to a balance.
    Low interest rates can spark investment, but unless that software going to save companies buying such software, then you don't have a valid business, and no company will buy such software unless such software can save them more then such software costs.
    This is really grade 3 math here, and leaving out WHY companies buy and consume software means any such analytics of the market is flawed.

    Thanks for posting this video! So, my question is this: if it's so hard to find work in the tech industry right now (not counting entry level positions), why are there supposedly sooo many companies looking for people on LinkedIn? I get email messages, from LinkedIn, with information on companies looking for people with my skills or {blah blah} has 100+ positions, etc. I don't mean to imply LinkedIn is "the defacto standard" in assessing job opportunities in the tech industry. However, I often get email notifications about companies that are hiring and looking for people. Maybe those positions don't really exist, I don't know. I will mention those messages tend to focus on companies looking for Senior-level developers. Given the "Elon Musk effect", I would imagine a number of Senior-level developers would have been fired. It just seems like there's a disconnect somewhere between the numbers of people who can't find work and the numbers of employers looking for people.

    • @DrAnwarHaq
      @DrAnwarHaq  Před měsícem

      Great observations... Here are my 2 cents: There are definitely a lot of jobs in the market. A simple search on Linkedin for 'Software Engineer' in the US, gives over 130k results. Also, the data from BLS shows the tech job postings are at about 70% level compared to March 2020 (pre-pandemic). Its definitely not 0% :). Its just that the market was flooded with thousands of people and lot of newcomers coming from bootcamps etc.
      I think what you're missing is that the "Elon Musk effect" encourages companies only to "keep" senior engineers rather than firing them. When comapnies are forced to be more effecient, there's race to hire the proverbial "10x engineers", who are seasoned senior engineers. I'll be explaining more on this in an upcoming video titled: "Why NO ONE is hiring for ENTRY LEVEL tech jobs?" It should be coming in about 2 weeks. Keep an eye.
      And thanks for liking the video :)

    Thanks, you had a lot of reasonable points. I definitely don't have as much experience as you do but I do see somethings slightly different, but I could 100% wrong too lol. I don't think venture capitalist and angel investors play much of a role at these very large companies that are laying off hundreds and thousands of devs at a time. I think this has a huge effect on start ups and smaller companies but for them I think they would lay off maybe 3 ~ 5 and that's a maybe because most startups try to run very lean like you mentioned with how WhatsApp was lean. I think this more so will/has hurt new tech startups trying to find that capital like you mentioned. To the point of the Elon Musk effect, I don't think companies really learned anything from this event. Most of these companies knew they could make it with less engineers well before this and even if they didn't they would still have to make that choice if their CFO made them which would have had the same outcome. I don't think many smart execs would look at what Elon did as a success story lol if they did I question their leadership skills lol. And with junior roles, seems like companies are being overly cautious right now honestly. They want people who have worked with their exact stack for multiple years but they might have just slapped together their stack within the last 2 or 3 years during their R&D let me try this phase right before all the layoffs. It don't seem like companies care much about general fundamentals that show a that an engineer can learn fast even in spaces they have not seen before. I have a lot of people I mentees, students, and friends who just graduated and I have had to think about this and give advice to help them not give up, but again I might be way off the mark here. What do you think, did I miss something that might give me a better view.

      Depends on the hiring manager and the reason for the career gap. Most good hiring managers won't give any importance to that. If you perform well in the interviews, and have impressive career/skill set, there's no reason someone would disqualify you for taking a career gap.
      (I wanted to make the word 'skill set' bold here, but youtube doesn't allow that :) )

      as you learn Python or R, there will be many libraries within these you can then master for example in Python you'll have pandas, scikitlearn, matplotlib, spacy, nltk, etc. Spend some time learning those. I would suggest spending more time on learning python (compared to R), because python is much more versatile and has many more jobs.

      @DrAnwarHaq  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Ashwin, I've worked in Facebook's content moderation team for 2 years. Trust me, a big chunk of those teams are just doing busy work just to keep regulators happy and promote healthy image for the comapny. As hate speech is very very subjective term, most companies when they say are curbing hate speech are basically censoring content per their prefernces. Adding community notes is a much better way to provide alternative perspective.
      It could be a long debate, but I'm generally in favor of the decisions Elon musk took.
