I sometimes feel like he's criticizing everyone's every move.
When I played through both X and Y, I chose Calem for X and Serena for Y. I finished X first, So when I started Y I was caught off guard by how much more blunt he was compared to Serena.
I like the xy rival encounter theme. It's really catchy.

I wish Calem was in the anime. He would have been so cool in it.

It's interesting to know that the X & Y characters are like the biggest social butterflies. :p I suppose all the newer Gens come close with 2 or so friends (Bianca and Cheren, Hau and Lillie, Hops and maybe Marnie, etc.), but here there's freaking 4 people. ._. Calem/Serena, Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor... I mean damn, that's a lot of friends, at least compared to everyone else. XD
In the first 4 gens, there was basically just one rival too, and they might not even be your friend considering the first two. :p Things have really changed a lot. ^^;

I used Serena's anime pokemon team, along with Fletchling (I kinda imagined Serena's mother's pokemon following her through her journey), Ivysaur (Shauna's anime pokemon), and Lucario (Korrina's pokemon) to beat Calem. After becoming champion, the team was slightly different. Instead of Ivysaur, it was Chestnaught that Shauna traded for her Ivysaur.
I know, but I did an experiment on whether or not I can beat the game with her anime team plus three more possible pokemon she could have.
