- What's up everyone this is Spooky! Today I wanted to create a Tekken 8 Tier list for all of you. But instead of rating the characters on their overall power, I will be rating them based on how good their punishment is. The purpose of this tier list is to give you a good idea of which characters it is worth taking a risk against! You can also get an idea of who has very strong punishment, and adjust to a safer strategy against them. I am sure not everyone will agree with all of my picks, but I hope to get some good conversation going and get you thinking about how you approach the other characters. Yes, I know Patch 1.03 has all of the internet angry and upset because of all the wall glitches and other small bugs, but I am still having lots of fun making these guides and playing!

Great vid spooky, having clips for each character makes it feel high effort compared to other tier list out there
Great idea to break tierlists into aspects like this! Maybe damage potential/ wall carry/ wall mixups next?
Might've been useful to talk about other aspects of punishment. E.g., pushback -16/-17 moves like bear/victor ff2 and deathfist. and i'd say ws 13f punishes are super important with so many good -13 lows

Solid list. Maybe a couple here and there that were arguable but nothing crazy biased
Raven's punishes are slightly worse too because many of them force him into stance, so if you mess up you're back turned and extremely punishable if you weren't prepared to be backturn
This version of Raven heavily relies on 50/50s, hard reads, conditioning and mental frames. Other characters are so easily + in this game that you need really good movement and punishment to shine with Raven.
He needs buffs
asuka's 12f is not actually a real knockdown, its actually a "fake" knockdown that gives no oki and just gives +14 frames
IMO King is minimum A tier. 25 dmg i10 isnt weak i think... Overall tho i mostly agree :)

For Reina i think you didn’t go into WS 4,4 enough especially with it being 11 frames. On P2 side you can step some of the stance moves.
On P1 side you can not so if you are playing P1 you HAVE to guess. She has iron hand which is a heat engager mid, she has an untechable grab(which does a ton of damage at the wall and tracks), a homing high(which can lead her back to sentai), a mid option. Then when you factor in the Reina already being in heat she has almost unlimited options. A low heat smash out of the stance, mist step usually gives you non-electrics, but in heat they become electric. So if she wave dashes out of the stance it could be hellsweep(puts her back into HW stance again), EWGK(counter hit launching mid), EWGF(leads to about 80 damage with no heat dash).
Oh also forget also if she’s in Heat HW gives you an auto parry so even if you do press you have to press correctly.
I figured I already put her in the S-Tier so it was ok. This video got a little long so I skipped some moves / cut a couple things to try to get it under 30 minutes.

U forgot xiaoyu can punish -8 moves too with her b+1 and xiaoyu can now wallsplat blocking -12 lows but i do agree she's A tier, although she's got really good standing punishment, but becoz she can only launch at -16 lows, thats whats keeping her from S tier

The devs won’t make Shaheen’s f2,3 knockdown anymore, because it will wall splat after his guard break. They must of thought it would be too op
Lars is S tier.
2,1 guaranteed LEN mixup, and in heat that’s a huge 50/50
F2,4 knock down is the perfect range for den mixup, so the opponent can’t really do anything
Fb2,1 launches -14 mid
From crouch ws2,3 is good damage into guaranteed LEN mixup
Ws1 let’s you choose which direction to carry the opponent so if you’re back is to the wall you can side swap and get a wall combo
Ws3 gives 84 damage for stagger lows without walls
Thank you for pointing this out. I switch between characters but Lars is definitely one of he S-tier punishers out there. The FB 2,1 gets missed a lot since in early ranks no one barely does it, but it is a 14 frame punisher that launches into one of his deadliest combo string (same with his orbital launcher)

Just something for people to keep in mind Alisa gets a combo in heat off her i14 punish
Of the characters I know Lars should be swap with Lili. His standing 10f and WS 13f both lead into strong mixup (super strong in heat) and he has a high damage 14f launcher. Lili's 10f 28 dmg punish has really bad range and is not reliable. Dragunov and Kazuya should be lower. Apart from his 12f WS punish Dragunov punishment is bad to average. Kazuya's WS 13f launcher has short range and can sometimes miss. Not having an easy 15f launcher can hurt him a lot. Shaheen should be on the top tier. His 10f does 28 dmg into SNK mixups at +10. That's amazing. The 12 does 33 and has a chunky 13/14f punish and a good WS 13f punish. I think his WS launcher still does colossal damage too. No way should he be that low.
You didn’t go over all Raven punishes. Forgot the down back 2,1, and if you do do just to that goes into stance which is fast enough to get out a block a potential jab punish. Forward 2 3 which can also go into stance. And WR 2 can counter into crazy combo damage
There was no reason to nerf Zafina's punishment, it was already weak
They did give her a new 14f move that is not bad because it has nice range but it leads to less damage than the df3,4 usually. It might be good with the wall behind them.
@@teamspooky she has't new move, if you talk about df4,2 or df4,1, she already have it in T7. So they nerf her, and don't give her nothing instead.

It's good you bought this up specifically. Against those 2 you should rethink how you use your jab punishable moves since they can make you pay harder than most others.

yoshimitsu has no 13 wr punisher though its either 11 (or 12? not sure) or 14 frames but that one is also weak, thats a huge negative in a game where it is so easy to spam lows, it can be very abusable vs yoshi bcs he can barely do anything about it
His ws 4 is 11frames and he can put his sword away or go into kincho after it and he can flash ws which is 6-9 in ss or 8-11 in nss

Throws only a true punish on armor , you could test it for yourself even doing moves -18 on block if king uses giant swing you can still break it
@@jclarke90 I think throw is also a true punish on Rage Art (which technically is an armor move and falls under your rule.)
@@teamspookyI’ve never seen a grab punish a rage art unless it was a frame trap in which the rage art can’t be mashed out . But so could any other frame trap +6 or more . Even Asukas Rage art can only be beaten by stepping it correctly on block king might as well hopkick like any other character

If Anna was in T8. There should be an “F” row. She has the worst punish moves in tekken if I’m not mistaken.
They improved her near the end of Tekken 7
@@teamspooky yeah even tho she’s the only character that lacks an i10 to i12 punishers. They later gave her a deadly i14 double slaps and an i13 rage art punish. Pretty fair trade I’d say…

King not having a kd from his punishers is not as weak as other chars since he gets immediate throw mixups from those

XD you really puted king into c tier, as argument weak jab punishment while you showed one of the most damaging i10 that is +8 and you put Bryan over him, Bryan character with one of the worst standing punishment.
The A tier has 2 lines, so King is in B tier.

Like Shahenn good damage i10, solid damage good and frames i12, 3 good i14 options and very reliable hopkick plus FC i13 knockdown and very chunky ws i16 for good damage.
Meanwhile Feng not getting much till i13, hopkick is a meme that sometimes cant launch punish stuff other characters can and his ws is medicore with no knockdown but you did ,,shoulder good, heat good, A tier''

King has giant swing, he has 10 fotogrames and 65-70 damage.....
Throws cannot punish moves except armor moves/rage art. If they do a -12 move and you giant swing it is breakable.
Devil Jin’s ws punish is lacking and his standing punishment outside of 1,1,2 sucks. B1,2 has the lowest damage out of all 12 frames punishes, and there is no oki after it hits.
How the hell is Paul lower than Jun? His 12f and 14f punishes are extremely easy and rewarding. He has the easiest launch for -14.
Just gonna ignore Jun having the 2 best 10f punishes in the game? Also she launches crouch at -14 which has as much benefit as his --14 launcher (and its mid not high)

Panda at A tier is ridiculous. Her heat is absolute garbage and her heat signature move is awful and has no follow up. She has a low poke that is launch on block. She can't sidestep, like Kuma. She has no fast forward 12f punish to handle pushback attacks. She has no throwing range. Her ws2 is -17f on block.
I don't even think you labed any of the characters. Especially with characters like Jack at S? The same as Jun? Dragunov at A?
You don't seem to understand how character punishment is rated at high level. How unsafe a punisher is is only a small factor compared to Startup / combo ability / the state the opponent is left in after you land it. Why would you do Jun's WS3 in neutral randomly and then complain about it being punishable? She has the 2 best 10f punishers in the entire game, those are bad on block too. In the end Panda has some problems, but her punishment is better than a significant amount of characters on this list.

its not a tier list for overall power, its a tier list for Punishment, of which claudios is not bad. You also underestimate him as a character, check out some of the Claudio gods like Shadow20z and Divineexorcist.
