The THIRD part of our trilogy of videos concerning the first war, the Titanomachy.
A ten year war amongst the Titans and Olympians, different generations of Greek Gods. Chronos, the leader of the Titans and ruler of the universe was challenged by his children, Zeus and the Olympians.
Very little is actually known about the Titans, as they were more a footnote to the gods of Greek Mythology. There was a poem dedicated the events of the Titanomachy, but it was lost to the sands of time, and so we have taken what we know to make this video.
Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them.
This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience.
All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos.
There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries.
These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays.

The tragedy of Zeus is that he, too, eventually relapsed into the cycle of fratricide, just as Chronos warned him he would.
You mean filicide?
While right now in the timeline Zeus hasn't fallen to the sickness of ultimate power; but it's hard to say he doesn't eventually, just maybe in a less directly destructive and more ornery from of it

Kratos: "ZEUS! YOUR SON HAS RETURNED AND I AM HERE TO RUN THE HANDS!"
I love how when showing a young zeus you sometimes use the image of hercules. His favorite son and another young lion.
I have so enjoyed this amazing journey you have crafted. So well done!
Also fitting, as Romans couldn't quite figure out whether Thunaraz/Donnar/Thor was supposed to be Jupiter or Hercules.

A stunning retelling and detailing of the story, I had just written a major essay on the Greek origin mythos anylising the ancient texts and fragments from Khaos up to Zeus' battle against Typhon (Typhoeus) and the stabilising of the rule of Olympos. I do so hope that such a video comes soon as that battle as alluded to at the end, though only briefly mentioned in Hesiod seemed to imply that it was such an apocalyptic battle that it could be felt in Tartaros with the power the two wielded.
As a side, I have watched your content for years and was thrilled to see you expand your content to natural history and mythology and am always impressed with the quality of your work. Thank you for creating these masterfully written stories especially these, as Greek mythic tales formed a large part of my childhood stories.

This series has me hooked.
I started listening shortly before the first act of the Titanomachy dropped, and tuned in to each one the day it was uploaded. But following this conclusion I genuinely needed to sort my own thoughts out before I took to the comments to express my appreciation for your hard work.
Let me preface this by saying I believe you two have well and truly achieved your goal of bringing life back to the old legends, infusing them with that same human perspective and emotion they would have enjoyed when told around the fire. Kudos to you both.
While the heroes of our story ultimately triumph, the tale is a tragedy. The peace established is short lived, the tyrant is finally overthrown but the very war to overthrow him irreparably damaged the hero who would sit on his throne.
The kind-hearted boy who cried tears of empathy when accidentally injuring a friend at play is gone, in his place is a stern, and spiteful even, ruler who condemned his enemies to the worst torture imaginable for the crime of remaining loyal to their king and standing against him. These are the qualities and actions that have displeased Gaia, but could it have been any other way? Could Zeus have achieved the task set out before him without killing his innocence? Perhaps, but the fact remains he was sent down this path by Gaia herself. If the boy was to be preserved better he remained in hiding, unaware of his heritage.
I think the fact that you can draw many parallels between the Greek tales and even our own recent treatment of returning war veterans is proof that the old stories spoke to something deep in the human heart, there was a reason we find them so compelling. I've rambled quite enough for one comment though, and I'd like to say again how much I've been enjoying these videos.
Carlos your thoughts on our work are wonderful - (and we love a good ramble so you're always welcome to!) Part of the lovely thing about youtube is that we get to hear your thoughts and feelings, so thank you so much for sharing them!
It means the world to us you have enjoyed our work so much, and I adore your thoughts on the 'what ifs' of Zeus. How things could have been different perhaps. But you're right in saying it is a tragedy.
And It helps a lot to know people enjoy watching, as much as we enjoy creating! It's a gift to be able to share a love for stories, myths and people in general. Stories generally are just about the universals between us all, and the human heart.

My favorite part of these videos is the writing. It's so good and the delivery... impeccable.
I'm also growing increasingly convinced that Atlantis is also a mish mash of pre and post flood era. As the earliest texts/ writings/ pics on rocks... In Egypt claim they were the survivors of Atlantis fall, and it looks like the Eye of the Sahara was probably it. Post flood Atlantis was founded by the survivors of Enki's ark in Turkey. Crazy stuff
This is the video....the previous ones (in the playlist) are the formative, hero's toil, builder ones for THIS video. They are fantastic and EXPERTLY done, but the content here is 1000% exhilarating. Tarterus is not Hell, and tarterus is not the devil of christian mythology. Nor is Zeus descending out of altruistic desire to redress balance by redeeming those wrongly damned. He seeks powerful alies.
It is fitting for greek trageties that the young boy-king. The Tyrant-Slayer zeus is a hero. He is not his fathers son or his grandfather's grandson. Yet time and again he has shown that it wouldn't take much to turn him into such.
...and yet even at his worst. He is still not them. He stopped at Metis. He limited his punishment to Prometheus. He allowed humanity to live. Cronos would have eaten Hera. Would have beheaded Athena. Uranus would have looked upon Prometheus and thrown him into Tarterus itself after dismembering him. Uranus would have blighted humanity from the face of the earth.
Zeus is pety yes, but .... even at his worst, he is still the better man than his sires, if only by hair bredths and fractions.
