You fail to mention the type you have as far if its a dwarf or a regular size which can go as high as 20 feet, or regardless of the sizes, you can grow any Crape Myrtle in a container? I ask cause i bought this pass Summer the Purple magic which is a dwarf variety and would love to transplant it into my front patio which gets a lot of Sun.

Have a question I planted a Red Black Diamond Pod but did not separate the seeds inside, now I have 2 small plants growing from the pod, one is the regular black diamond with dark leaves and the other has light colored leaves like the regular Mrytle. Can I separate them or since they are from the same pod is it to late. They are about 12 - 14 inches high

Can you restore a black diamond myrtle tree when the leaves fall out and the bush dried out?
I have mine in the container. It is small but unfortunately during the moving I forgot to water for a week. I am watering it but leaves are not coming back 😢

I planted my two Black Diamond "Shell" in planters on my lanai in Orlando FL. They dont seem to be happy after only 3-4 weeks. The leaves are droopy. I wonder if I am watering too much? I water them about once a week. they are in a mositure control soil but tall well draining pots. THANKS!

Hi Jim! The Black Diamond Crapeyrtles can grow to full size of approximately 12ft tall in zone 7. Remember to give you Black Diamond Crapeyrtle a plant food that has an even NPK ratio in spring!

What kind of soil should I use in the container?

They prefer a well- drained but moist soil. Crape Myrtle grow best in an acid to slightly acid soil ranging from 5.0 to 6.5 on the pH scale. Most average garden soils fall between a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0.

Sir, you didn't mention how big of a container you need for crepe myrtles.

I had the same question and found this on the internet for Tonto crape myrtles.
Choose a container at least two to three times the width of the shrub's nursery pot. One ranging from 3- to 3 1/2-feet across and 2 to 3 feet deep should be large enough to accommodate Tonto for several years. It must have drainage holes; crepe myrtles don't tolerate consistently wet soils.

@@vincentdesapio thanks for the info. That's a huge container. Might as well just plant it in the ground.

@@brokenbutterfly3178 I think it depends on the crape myrtle. Those dimensions are for a Tonto crape myrtle which grows to 8 feet. I would think for a smaller tree, like a Caddo crape myrtle which is usually kept shorter, you can get by with a smaller container.

@@brokenbutterfly3178 Hi, This is what I heard from the nursery who supplies me with crape myrtles. Replant your Caddo (type of crape myrtle) in a 3-5 gallon pot. That will be plenty and make it very happy. As with any tree in a pot you’ll find you need to water more often. Every other day is plenty. You could of course go bigger, and actually smaller too! Crape myrtles thrive in pots, which is exactly why they’re so popular as bonsai specimens. You’re not going to have any problems.

Hello-Yes, they can grow into tree form or you can prune to accomodate a shrub or more of a perennial format. They also make great container plants. Very verstile to say the least!
