In 2012, we had a drought one summer here in the south. We had a crape myrtle that was more reddish-violet, sorta plum colored. It stayed alive the whole year! I was very young so they bring back fond memories of playing outside in the heat with my little sister 💙

I think reds are the most vibrant and largest bounty of clustered blooms. I do not have one but they are striking when they get going.
I prefer Muskogee lavender which is my favorite, hearty and love to be taken care of and will reward you with numerous seedlings.
My whites are miniatures but still they get tall (15+ feet) but it has taken 20 years for them to reach that height.
The Crepes are the most dynamic species of bloomers hands down.

If you want to try to overwinter it, bring it into an unheated garage or shed. Water once a month and place it outside once the weather warms up again. It will not be a houseplant, it needs dormant period during wintertime. Thanks!
