Back in the 1990's I played their golf course. I enjoyed the hotel and casino, but their golf course was one of the best in Vegas. Really well kept and enjoyable to play..--Shalom--..
Love these old pics. I lived in Vegas from 2001-2002 and since I've moved the changes have been drastic to say the least. I still can't believe the Rio has sunk as low as it has.
I agree with you on the Rio. We ( me and wife and kids ) started going to Vegas n the 80's, so up until around 2000, we always stayed at Excalibur, Circus, MGM, places for the kids. After they moved out, the Rio, Orleans, South Point, was the place for us. Last time we stayed at the Rio was 16 during NASCAR weekend, what a disappointment........
@@Vegasparanormal the Rio is not an eyesore at all. The A's stadium i agree needs to be else where such as the big vacant dirt lot next to UNLV on Tropicana Ave
They didn't save that iconic sign? Some 50s casinos had the biggest, most beautiful signs. And we remember their names because the streets are named after them. 👍
Visited the Dunes a few times. With my folks, I remember the 99 cents hot dog. Would play the 5 cent slots. Too bad they are all gone. But time changes, out with the old in with the new 😢.
It's too bad the neon sign wasn't saved. Would have been great to have in the neon boneyard. I was a bit confused though why there was a still shot of Aladdin being imploded. Maybe because you could see Bellagio in the background? Anyway, good montage video; that tub photo was awesome.
Yup that's why its there so people could see it first hand it's even in the title so thank you for finally seeing what I was trying to show, finally someone understood the reasoning for that i did get questions about it and was just like 🙄, I've also gotten better at the history videos as well with putting them together thank you for watching the video I really do appreciate you
They served, for breakfast, champagne…out of a tap! Hash browns came out of a can, I sh-t you not. One of the worst meals I have ever had. No tears shed when they tore down this dump.

I stayed there in 1991 for a trip to the CES trade show. I was only in my 20's and it was my first time on a plane. I'd never really been anywhere, and I'd heard of The Dunes, and seen that iconic sign on TV, so I was pretty pumped. That didn't last long though. I know it was a premium hotel in its day, but by the time I got there it was pretty run down and almost skanky. Our room was really worn-out and old looking. I doubt it had ever been updated since it was built. The guy I went with was also young and was new to travel, and we were really disappointed. I still remember the halls and room were dark and dingy, and the inside of the front door was full of signs warning you about safety and basically how to avoid being robbed. That creeped us out lol. It turned out ok, but the next year we asked for a better hotel ;)
Stayed there in '89, wanted a balcony to enjoy the storm I'd just ridden through on my new Harley. Had a bottle of Jack sent up, watched from the balcony for an hour, went exploring, and discovered the strip was overrun with Dead Heads, selling tie-dye [and anything else] along the streets and even in the meridians, when they still had them. It was full of cowboys as well, as it was Helldorado Days. So my weekend was filled, partying with hippies and cowboys, wearing leather biker gear, lol
Seems like such a magical time but, sadly, before my adulthood. Would love to have been able to experience it. I’ve been to the Bellagio and it was meh
I always hope to see videos taken inside these older casinos so I can recall the slot machines that were prevalent during that time. Probably not a buffalo in sight. I think that was about the time that TITO was starting to be introduced, so there may have still been casino staff running around refilling the coin hoppers. Unfortunately, since photography of any kind was prohibited inside the casino, that history is gone.
Thank you for watching I try to get inside the casino pics some have them some don't I try to put together as much info on the history of these places as I can I appreciate you for coming to the channel and checking it our 🥰🥰🥰
I'd like for somebody with some creativity and some computer skills to take some of the old Las Vegas strip photos and super impose some of the newer Vegas strip photos over top of it, just to get a visual of the all the properties and replacement venues as they happened, and I'd like extra chesse on my pizza as well.
Could they not have saved that fabulous DUNES neon sign ?. It was known world wide as a Vegas symbol along with the old GOLDEN NUGGET sign. Now replaced with bland modernity.
They should of saved the iconic sign for the neon sign museum. 😮
It's in the neon museum

I was there, standing a few hundred feet away when she went!
The old Dunes sign always reminds me of the film diamonds are forever.
only visited Vegas once from the UK in 2006 but ive been interested in its history and the old resorts ever since. Fascinating history
Thank you
El Dunas!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I stayed at the Dunes. Their pool had the coldest water. The casino was large and Palatial with a red motif.

The Rio just needs to be demolished it's a huge eye sore to the city, that's where the stadium needs to be instead of on the tropicanas property

The Rio was neglected by Caesars. Now that Dreamscape bought it they have been putting money into it & it’s looking better already

Last I heard, many old neons were sitting on some local vacant lots! I'm really happy to hear of this museum and I'll have to go. 🥲
liking the old casinons!!!!

This was when Vegas was Vegas
I 100% agree
The best thing about the old Vegas is that they tore it down! The worst was The Hacienda.

Yeah. Would be tough to implode the Dunes with the Bellagio being in the picture 🤔
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible day. Much love. Hugs

@ 3:07 So that's what happened to the Dunes sign during the implosion. 😮

Ah yes , I was old enough to remember watching Dunes' implosion live on TV.

I thought that MGM fire happened in the early 80s. I could be wrong but I don’t think so.
