Thanks for the vid! You could have gotten that crud out of the bottom. That is remaining compound that was on the old cup. I used a long pick while using the tip of a air hose blower on the tip of a screwdriver to cover the hole. It picks right off.

For anyone watching....when I installed my injectors, I used a scrap piece of 2x4 to whack them in. Probably about 8 inches long. Hammered the 2x4 and you could hear and feel when it was seated. Worked great and didn't damage anything, just be gentle.

Thanks for the video. I work on Navistar’s MaxxForce series engines. Although they are an inline 6, they do share a few similarities with the 7.3. Not many, but a few. The injector cups look similar and I wanted to see how and where others install the LocTite. I have replaced a few and wound up having to take a couple of them apart again because the cup didn’t seal right. Not sure what happened.
The MaxxForce doesn’t use glow plugs, they use an intake heater. One way I learned to clean out the cylinders I made a small hose for the end of my vacuum cleaner. I TDC each cylinder and then stick the vacuum hose in the hole where the injector tip goes. This pulls out the coolant and other debris that may have fallen inside.
I wasn’t aware that the LocTite takes about 12 hours to cure before installing the injector(s). That’s good to know. Perhaps that’s why a couple of mine didn’t seal properly.

I've done plenty of these cups and many more engine designs volvo swedge style are probably craziest design I've seen. These are easy in my opinion

Great video. How would you know that it’s the injector cup crack causing the coolant to get into the oil?

RiffRaff diesel has been doing CNC billet stainless steel cups, installing mine today. Much better quality, and they reinforce the area thats cracks in the brass cups

I haven't done cups before, but when I did my injectors, I left the glow plugs and injectors out and jumped the started relay to shoot everything out. Then again after the injectors were installed and glowplugs out, turned it over again to shoot anything left out the glowplugs. He mentioned it around 13:55

The pennies stop brass shavings from entering the cylinders
