(USA resident) Great interview!!! I lived in the arcades from my pre-teen years to my young adult years (late 70's - 90's). And recently discovered these replica arcade collectibles. Currently, I own several New Wave 1/6 arcades. And plan to add the Numskull line as well. In fact, I just pre-ordered "Space Invaders + Stool" right after watching this interview. I was surprised it went through as I did not think it would be accepting orders (fingers still crossed, though). And yes, it was too expensive for my normal budget & chose to forego pre-ordering about a month or 2 ago when I first heard/discovered Quarter Arcades. But after watching this I had to have it in my collection. Pong, Space Invaders (the original) and Asteroids were the first arcades I played & that was the beginning of my being hooked to the arcades/game rooms. I also just ordered Dig-Dug off Amazon, Christmas gifts to myself. 🙂 Also, looking forward to BurgerTime. I played this game many days after school, stopping at a small convenient store with a few games in the back.

I've got the Ms. Pacman and Polybius. I had Space Invaders pre-ordered thru Gamestop , but I think it got canceled , when the cab got delayed. Was trying to stick to just New Wave now , but Ghostbusters and Burgertime might draw me back in. And now I REALLY want that Space Invaders ! 😂
I was critical of you before, but THIS was a good video. Your questions were very good. As a big supporter of QA, my confidence has been a bit restored. I’m happy to hear that my SI and SID will finally be added to the collection after a 2-year pre-order wait. Excited to hear the news about a possible deal w/ Nintendo for DK down the road. And more importantly, that they intend to start pumping out new games, with no more delays. Quarter Arcades are the premium product. Very encouraging to hear that they are listening to us and doing what they can to keep the prices reasonable.
Totally prefer this quarter scale and glad to hear they are doing the same license as New Wave. I decided early on only to collect these. Quarter scale is so brilliant in more than one way.

So excited about all the new news!!! Scared also as there are SO MANY announced that I want, but where to put them and how to pay for them. But what a great problem to have! The time is right now for these to come out, the people who grew up with them won't be around forever. I gotta have Zoo Keeper, Lunar Lander, The Real Ghostbusters, Burgertime, Pong, oh my CoolToy, how am I going to make it work?
Since Numskull tackled Space Invaders, my HUGE wish was they would tackle Asteroids Deluxe next with that same (or similar) mirrored technology. That blacklight asteroid field artwork is the stuff of dreams. I'd pay a premium for that one also. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Oh man I know that dread, I was slowly adding things up in my head during this interview and was like, "yeah I'm going to be broke for a while" but it's going to be worth it. I see a lot of boring sandwich lunches in my future to save money for these awesome machines coming in the pipeline, but there are just too many good ones to pass on. Glad you enjoyed the interview!

I’ll tell you I’m a new wave toys fan, but I really think they missed the mark with the 1/6th scale biz model. This 1/4 scale really is a more attractive scale when actual gameplay is concerned. Great interview Gentlemen!

Phenomenal interview Doug!!! Great insight into the exact specifics & complications with each cabinets licensing. I am particularly upset about Sunset Riders as it's one of my favourite cabinets. If this interview was live I would have asked about Vendetta & The Simpson's chances of becoming a Quarter arcade as I love the Konami beat 'em ups from 1991. Thanks for alerting Numskull about the orange joy stick & buttons as the yellow was bugging me on Turtles in Time. & finally, so glad that the 3 player The Real Ghostbusters cab was confirmed. I have my fingers crossed now 🤞 for the Numskull team with acquiring RoboCop.
It’s my understanding that The Simpsons is something that can be done rather easily, but like Star Wars, it’s demanding a very high price tag to license and thus not something that makes financial sense for them to go after right now.

Great interview. I've got all of the released cabinets so far plus the carpets, wallpaper and sticker sets and will try and get what's yet to come. They are a good company and love the interaction they have with the community. I was talking to some of the Numskull team at the Play Expo in Blackpool and expressed my need for a Robocop cab, fingers crossed 😁😁😁

That's a slightly hairy question since I also have all the New Wave titles but thinking Quarter only, I think Dig Dug takes the crown. It plays well and like the arcade machine, is a tad larger than the rest.
I live in an area with some big centipedes… would love a 1/4 scale machine for the homestead.
Okay, now I'm stoked for these new releases!!! I have always wanted Robocop and I know if there's a chance at Bad Dudes that licensing aside, it's the same form factor cab, so I really hope to see both in the year to come!!

good to hear about them wanting to lower the prices. I understand for these 2 machines and other big name properties and crazy controls. Can't afford to buy other machines I don't want as much for $300+.
What a fantastic interview , really interesting to hear the work involved in securing licenses and the many dead ends Ben and his team must face👍. Regarding the 2 companies offering these scale cabs, I chose to go the NWT route purely down to the smaller form factor suiting my limited space. Looking back it would have been really cool if both companies had gone for the same scale (either 1:6 or quarter), the different mix of games and cabs would've built a formidable collection. Having said that, Numskull have some very interesting and exciting products in the pipeline so I may just have to find some additional space somewhere, maybe I'll jump on board if/when they announce Rally X 😄. Awesome interview! Good to know we will eventually see a quarter scale Street Fighter 2. The NWT version is cool, but you can fit 2 player controls for a more accurate cabinet on 1:4 scale... and it'll have a correct aspect ratio monitor.
Fingers crossed! I own the NWT version, but I'd buy a Numskull SF2 machine in a heartbeat for those same reasons.
It's interesting that he even mentioned Donkey Kong knowing how strict Nintendo is about licensing.

The real Ghostbusters is cool but RoboCop. Yes please. I'm a big RoboCop fan. The main franchise I collect for is RoboCop. My favorite nes game is robocop. I have wanting a RoboCop & robocop 2 arcade for years. I came close to buying a real robocop arcade about a month ago. But I couldn't justify spending the money & the person selling it had no pic or video showing the board in the machine was the RoboCop board. I have been waiting for arcade 1up to do RoboCop. I was hoping they would do RoboCop arcade that had RoboCop & RoboCop 2 on it. But if numskull does this I'm in 100%.

Great interview: I negotiate Licensing Agreements as part of my job and loved that part of the Interview. It really does matter to get the Licensees correct, I never bought the Arcade1Ups because they are not arcade accurate. As for community feedback, I missed out on the New Wave Toy Replicade Centipede, Asteroids and Tempest, and if Numskull made these as Quarter Arcades, I'd instantly buy them.

Wasn't Pirate Pete the game that used to be "Jungle King"? Great game for sure. I believe they had to change the name due to the Tarzan franchise.

Omg day 1 purchase if they pull RoboCop off. Hopefully they get the full license soon.
Hearing about the legal issues, it pains me because I find myself in a similar situation with Shadowgate, and having to deal with Kemco, and Seiko, even though Dave Marsh is the creator and owns the IP of Shadowgate. It's difficult to deal with multiple people on a creative project, especially when it's a simple project. Konami, should be dealing with the involved parties, but making the ultimate decision. It's kinda dumb. With the Shadowgate board game, and dealing with Trick-or-Treat Studios, I made a deal with Dave Marsh to do all the business under my company and I would license it from him, so he gets a cut of what we make. So much easier.
It's always a nightmare when a multitude of parties are involved with anything, it's so much cleaner and less stress induced when you can deal with people/companies one on one.

I may have missed this in the detail but does anyone know why Track and Field got canned?
The rights to who owns the original cabinet artwork are unknown to Konami. Numskull polled the community if they would want Track and Field released with alternative artwork, and the community resoundingly said No.

Anything about NBA Hangtime & Maximum Hangtime? Jam TE 2.0? Jam TE 2.0, 2.1 rewind hack with Shaq, breaking backboard? Full rosters for each game? Allow us to modify game and keep online play? No codemystics?

I really wish they'd do a better job of communicating when games are expected to ship. Having both Space Invaders and TMNT pre-ordered since day 1, it's pretty crazy to not have heard any meaningful updates as to when I should expect to receive either.

A very informative discussion, Doug. I learned a lot about the inter workings of licenses and the challenges that Numskull has faced from a mechanics and technology standpoint in getting some of these cabs manufactured and to the marketplace.
How has the long term durability been of the Quarter Arcades that you own in terms of screen quality (dead or stuck pixels) and durability of the controls? I purchased Galaxian, Dig Dug, and Bobble Bubble from their first series of cabs and each one had a problem. A couple of stuck white pixels appeared on the screen of my Galaxian cab within a week of owning it. None of the recommended processes I found worked for me to unstick them. The joystick would intermittently respond on Bobble Bubble out of the box. There was a large mark in the screen on Dig Dug out of the box. I ended up returning all three cabs for a refund.
I’m willing to give them another shot because their level of accuracy and detail make the cabs look fantastic on the shelf and I am hoping the quality of the mechanics and screens have improved on this new series, especially with the new factory and higher price point.
Glad you found the interview informative. The only issue I've had with my quarter arcade units is my Galaga control panel sticker had lost it's adhesiveness over the years and came up along the bottom. I just sprayed 3M adhesive under it and it's been good as new for months since. That's the only thing I've experienced with any of my machines personally.

I was a big fan of these quarter arcade but as soon numskull made the prices higher up to $299 I’m done buying these the arcade 1 up is worth $300 not a 1/4 scale the highest I’ll pay is $179 for a 1/4 scale size matters
As a former Arcade1up owner, Arcade1up's aren't worth $300. You have to admit that the 1/4 versions of arcades are using higher quality material than these micro counterparts. Arcade1up needs to step up instead of re-releasing the same game 10x

I was a big fan too, but 299 Euro are not acceptable. Bubble Bobble was the last Quarter Arcade I bought. I will keep collecting the mini arcades from New Wave Toys.
I have no issues paying $300-$500 for a cab. These are collectibles and not easy to produce. I spent $500 on a custom built Frogger, $600 on a 1/6 Donkey Kong cab and $1000 for a Defender cab. To each his own, but $300 is peanuts for nice things like these and NWT cabs.
I have an idea 💡 why don’t they put Space Invaders & Space invaders 2 in the same cabinet?

Not paying $299 for each game size matters they are so cheap they wanted to give us plastic instead now cause it’s wood they increased the price like the other ones weren’t wood

the cabs are cool, but way too expensive. and needlessly so. The first round of cabs were welll priced, but the latest round is double for no good reason.
Covid hasn’t helped.
Initially New Wave Toys crushed Numskull in authenticity and quality. Recently it seems like NS is trying to up their game. Still, from an authenticity and quality build standpoint, NS has a way to go to catch up to NWT’s.
Numskull quarter arcades are nice, but too expensive now.
Better screens, better emulation and better quality control would really help. I bought two machines, Ms. Pacman and Bubble Bobble. Emulation was bad on MS pacman with cutting sound during cutscenes, screens had horrible viewing angles and resolution made Bubble Bobble look super crappy and wobbly, one of the buttons on one of the machines did not work properly etc. Both were returned and the adventure was over. Thankfully it was crap experience as I am the type who would try to collect everything, which would be really expensive and require a lot of space.
Besides this, they generally look cool, but you need to go the extra mile if you want to sell to me. If there is a business case with the mediocre quality, which there seem to be, then by all means.
Not recommended. For the price especially it makes no sense.
That’s strange, I own Bubble Bobble and did not encounter any of those issues.
