    Philadelphia's most dangerous street.
Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

As a person living in the Netherlands, I have never in my life seen anything like this anywhere. The USA needs to get its stuff in order because this is inhumane. Why is the US government not taking care of this? Do these people not count and do they not deserve a normal life? Invest more money in social support systems and insurance policies that make mental health treatments free, addiction treatment free. Build and provide proper social housing (but *proper* social housing like in Netherlands where economic demographics are mixed to prevent poverty-ghetto's from forming). If a country can send 77 billion USD to fund a war overseas, you'd think it has the money to restructure its social support systems for its own citizens. Sickening!! Poor people.

I believe that the left-wing and corrupt political policies of the American Democratic Party are causing this. Left-wing politics pays lip service to nice things, but in reality, they are power-oriented and will fight by any means necessary to gain power.
Excessive border-opening policies that seem to intentionally worsen domestic security, abnormal reductions in police personnel, granting voting rights to illegal immigrants, etc.
We are doing As a result, public order deteriorates, shops are looted and closed, people lose their jobs, and become poor.

Don’t you get it… Democrats are intentionally destroying America. They’re evil. Greedy. Corrupt. They want complete control of the world by dismantling America from a free republic to a controlled one world government where the elites own ALL even you. This is much bigger than just America. Besides, a government big enough to give you everything is a government big enough to control you with it. No thx.

Listen, I'm a resident and public servant of this city. The root cause of the "homelessness in Kensington" IS because of the opioid addiction. Many of these people left upper to middle class families after falling hard into this addiction and ended up in Kensington. These people have health partners free state issued medicaid choose to be on the street by their dealers. Affordable housing projects and shelter is available in Philadelphia. OPIOID ADDICTION is the root cause of this video, not this other nonsense narrated. Please have your narrative corrected. Thank you, and pray for those souls to seek recovery. I don't know who wrote this WOKE manuscript, but I'm going from life experience as someone who serves here daily in the thick of it

I grew up in Philly. This area used to be a working class Polish/Irish area.Kensington Ave was a business street. I bought my first kitchen set at a store on K and Somerset St 40 years ago. Rocky’s home was filmed in this part of town. Whites that could move out did. When the factories started closing down in the 70s-80s, people that couldn’t leave got stuck there. Many of the people there are transplants from the counties, that come for easy drug access, without repercussions from the law. If you don’t cut off the source(drugs/drug dealers) it’s won’t end. Go about 10 blocks to the East, there’s 800k -900k homes built. Police not gonna let them linger around there.

    • @rhondamurphy4494
      @rhondamurphy4494 Před 8 měsíci

@robinsantiago2200 - Sir there are many people on these streets that were also “raised correctly” that type of judgement is not friendly. “proper raising” goes out the window when it comes to opioid addiction. Imagine you are home with your beautiful well behaved daughters and you are cutting vegetables for dinner, one of your little princesses comes into the kitchen and says, Daddy let me help you, she grabs a kitchen knife and starts chopping, next thing there is a loud scream, she cut her finger with the knife and is bleeding 🩸 really badely, you take off your shift rip it up and tie a piece around her finger to stop the blood flow, throw everyone in the car and head to the emergency room, shes lost alot of blood and is passing in and out, you get to emergency and they take her into surgery immediately to save the finger, they come back 2 hours later, she had a blood transfusion and the surgery went great, finger all sown back up and you are going through the release process signing papers, the doc comes in hands you a prescription for pain killers so your little baby that you have “raised like a father should” can get some sleep and pain relief, you look at the prescription and say ok thanks doc, great work, so grateful etc and you stop on the way home to get the prescription “pain killer” filled for your little princess. You get home and at 9pm go to her room with a glass of water and her 2 painkillers!! This is as easy as how it starts.
What now Dad ?? You raised her right, but you gave her the opioids, trusting your doctor/surgeon for pain. Just saying, be like a hawk raising someone right has absolutely nothing to do with this situation 🙏

As a person from Philadelphia, this video although highlighting a serious issue, is misleading. The depictions of 'homelessness' shown here, say nothing of the underlying cause of this particular subset of citizens.
Speak to the true cause in this instance. What you are seeing is an area and people well documented for its unforgiving opioid addition and the ravages it has caused. Homelessness in these cases is often not simply due unaffordable housing or lack of government assistance.
It's more complex and layered than the video shows.

Root cause of it all is the hopelessness in society. You have to compete with Artificial Intelligence to get a job these days. It's just gonna get infinitely tougher. If you're well off now, your children / grandchildren may face the challenge against AI, unless countries start becoming more like utopia where all get basic necessities. AI is used by the rich to get richer and eliminate as many poor and manual workers as possible as of now.

This video is not an accurate account. The people who own homes and live there are not living a poor life. They are not middle class but not dirt poor. They are hard working class people some who rent.
The issue is these people are drug addicts and alcoholics, who made bad choices. Most of them are not even from Kens., but travel here from other states, other parts of Philly. There are numerous organizations, who feed and cloth them both in the winter and summer. Many had been kicked out of their homes because of their addictions. Will follow up later.

You might wanna add all the repubs cities too..Nashville, Memphis, 70% of Mississippi and Louisiana and I can def continue..this isn't a right or left issue..these are human rights issues..how is one expected to live on 8-10 bucks an hour, little to no health care, food banks that give expired or nearly expired foods, rents and utilities are outrageous and now they want you to have three months rent in the bank on top of first last n security..it's unrealistic..used to be able to rent 3 bdrm place at the beach for 600 a month from oct to memorial day..now? 1200 which leaves little room to save for permanent housing..this is on the govt to fix, change, improve..saw a guy two years ago on the news bragging about his affordable housing to be built..then I saw it started at 300,000.. who tf is that affordable for when you make 16,000 a year? Why I'm still living in my van and prob will for a long while..

Seems like half the people in this video maybe a little less are simply working class people walking to and from to work or home. Some are obviously waiting for a bus and this video portrays them all together as homeless dopeheads; plus the camera seems to be focused a wee bit too much on the little white girls in short shorts. It's hard to tell but the cameraman could easily be a perve.

I watch these types of video about Kensington for a few different reasons.
Most importantly bc although I didn't end up on the streets in Kensington, had I not moved back to Delaware that's where I was on my way to. Very quickly. It's not a game out there at all.
So after watching this, I am absolutely DISGUSTED.
First off this was the most uneducated and perverted documentary I have seen so far. Every single person that was focused on was a female. Most of them were wearing shorts with their ass hanging out. The ass was the focus point of each lady. Please by no means think that I'm saying anything negative about the ladies in this worthless documentary. Anyone can carry a camera around doing this. Did anyone actually learn anything or hear how they could be helped?? I can't even wrap my head around this.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you're going to do something like this, try to at least make sense and have some kind of educational information.

The main driver for homeless is not affordable housing but mental illness and drug addiction. Which goes hand in hand much of the time. You cannot keep someone housed whether it’s government provided or family and friends. Most would rather stay on the street, and don’t want a place to stay. The need mental help and rehabilitation. Unfortunately government run help is big business and is a revolving door. Staying on appropriate medicine and staying off self medications. It is not discrimination either many people have family members who are in the street. This is a very difficult problem to fix. I pray for these people. 🙏🩷🙏

Thankyou for making these videos. This work matters. I would think that it would be good for the entire community of Kensington of The City of Philadelphia of Pennsylvania State to have a sturdy concrete drinking water fountain built within McPherson Square. The cost to build such would not be much. A good group of men could do that gratis and the cost to The City of Philadelphia for what municipal water used would be little. The benefit to all would be good. How many lives could such a public drinking fountain save? Severe dehydration affects the brain and impedes good decision making. If The City of Philadelphia had public drinking water fountains or more of them perhaps The City of Washington, as some say Washington D.C., could build again public drinking water fountains. Speaking as a Son of The City of Washington I remember public drinking water fountains being in many areas of America's Capitol during the 1970's and into the 1980's. There is so much work to be done in America and some of that work costs little but has a big benefit to all. America is not going to be like this forever. I have the utmost confidence in America's future. A new day is approaching, a better America. My Regards Mr. Dominic James Austin.

Months, they fixed up a house across the street from me, 3 story and they want 2000$ to live in this hellhole per apartment, My house is paid off and I hate it here and I pay bills, 2000$ a month to live in a drug infested neighborhood, ya know who lives there, the drug dealers, stay close to their money, no normal people would want to live here, it's a hell hole and your lucky to get out alive,, MOST of the people that are homeless, ask them and they will tell you, I love getting high.
