- Red alert! If we hear those words while watching Star Trek, followed by the familiar klaxon, we know things are about to get serious. Although not intended to be comprehensive, this video serves as a representative sample of red alert in Star Trek over the years, ranging from The Original Series to Prodigy.

"Reed Alert" cracks me up every time. Imagine how the history books talk about that!
" Remember .......when in doubt, RED ALERT !!!!".
the funny thing is the two sounds Reed offered up for his Alert are TNG and TOS Red Alerts with something else thrown in.....
I'm half wondering if they named him Reed just for that joke?
Dean Read red alert lmao
Rimmer: "Step up to red alert"
Kryten: "Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb"
Lmao!
Red Dwarf was hilarious
Found it czcams.com/video/jZn1fhMdrbQ/video.html
"Theres always some excuse, isnt there?"
Shields up…. What shields 🤣🤣🤣
The shield grid wont arrive until tuesday
It was at that moment, O'Brien knew what his first job was going to be after this 'incident' was finished.
Perfect, just perfect 🤣😂🤣😂.
We don't need shields
@@nathanhansen7044 Shields? We don’t need shields where we’re going. XD
Picard's red alert during The Enemy was just the most epic 4th wall break in Star Trek
"...Uh...YES, Captain? ...You want me to do anything, sir? ...Hello?!"
I love the DS9 and Defiant red alert sounds.
Also…. Picard in season 1 TNG “Shut off that dam noise!!”
The discussion on Enterprise of how this came to be was surprisingly informed, getting into the whole problem of how to relay a string of sequential orders quickly to achieve a specified and basically the same result each time- why, let's slam them all into one protocol and give it one order to be given and one button/switch/lever to set it in motion, and one signal to the crew, and let's train everyone to have specific procedures to automatically follow! Like they'd been in the navy, or done any work in any emergency or security field. Kind of silly it wouldn't have been inherited from any navy or air service that still existed [perhaps even the Royal Navy, in which Reed's grandfather served], but cool that they gave Trek this bit of lore.
Because This is a thing that has been in practice in the Navy since the 1800s.....so why did it take Lt Reed to come up with it in the 22nd Century?
@@Ami-vh7sr I was going to make the same point. It's silly.
@@Ami-vh7sr In the Navy, at least the US Navy, the order of General Quarters or GQ is the real world equivalent of a red alert/tactical alert/battle stations.
@@Ami-vh7sr According to wikipedia:
I get the ridiculously notion that they didn't have such a protocol in place. Starfleet was in it's infancy but the Enterprise wasn't the only starship in the fleet she was just the first warp five vessel and one capable of more long range exploring. There were pleanty of others certainly Starfleet would have created such a protocol
Action stations! Action stations! Set condition one throughout the ship!
No wait, wrong sci-fi show…
Launch Vipers!
@@JohnDiMarcoCore Systems Transferring control to Viper Fighters, launch when ready....
Whoops, wrong BSG. Yeah... I'm a BSG TOS lover.
When the enterprise saves the defiant from the Borg....best entrance ever!
She has long legs. And she shows them off well in that scene.
Sisko and Riker both utter the best "Red Alert".
Star trek TMP had the best red alert sound. I want my house alarm to make that sound.
Also, I quite enjoy the enterprise-D alert in star trek generations
‘Red, red, red Red Alerrrrt…red, red, Red Alert…’
I just fixed that bloody thing! 😅
I like how in the cartoon version around 1:15 they portray Lt. Uhura lounging in her chair like she usually does in the show.
Love that you tossed in a Red "Alarm"
Saw that on a Lower Decks clip somewhere and been thinking I need to give LD a look see.
Have not been into ST since ENT went off air.
Live long and prosper.

Thanks for watching. While there are some aspects of the show I don't care for, I think Lower Decks is worth a watch. Peace and long life.
Lower Decks is crap.....it's an attempt to make a Rick and Morty Version of Star Trek....
@@Ami-vh7sr And it's still better than Discovery and Picard
@@Ami-vh7sr It's not a crap, it's actually good and even when it's animated comedy show, it's still better star trek than Discovery and Picard. Rick and Morty is not that funny as people say, jokes in Family Guy or Futurama are much better and Lower Decks is really close to Futurama style.
@@Pidalin It had an Orgy episode.....they have the lower deck members making Q their puppet for one episode.....
Voyager has the best red alert. Least annoying alarm with the most dramatic shift in lighting (where everything can still be seen).
So did the Enterprise E after the fashion of Voyager.
A general quarters alarm is supposed to be annoying and jarring.
Love that you did this after my last recommendation. Excellent work!
Thanks!
Hope you Didn't hurt your arm....
I love how DIscovery, Picard, and Strange New Worlds all use the Red Alert graphic from the TOS movies.
I love how I refuse to ever watch those. 😹❤
@@slyguythreeonetwonine3172 Watch SNW, it's worth your while.
The Voyager/First Contact siren will always be my favourite
Never noticed that Picard went back to using the classic Red Alert klaxon.
I never noticed it either. All the bad writing was in the way.
My favorite is still the Pakled "Red Alarm".
Red alert ordered. "hell march" starts playing over the ships intercom
When Q shows up naked on your living room floor and says "Red Alert" you know sh** just got real.
🤣
My favorites are Star Trek 5's and First Contacts Red Alert klaxons.
The klaxon from TMP and the red alert graphic from TMP and WOK were the absolute best.
And it goes without saying that the duty uniforms from II-VI were the best ever.
Absolutely!
The moment at 4:31 is one of my favorites. Riker is clearly concerned, but he carries out Picard’s orders without hesitation and turns back around ready to receive new instructions. Best command team in Trek.
This is wonderful. Thank you for putting this together!
This makes me think that sound effects on any ship are selected like ring tones 😅. The defiant has the most angry “I’m gunna kick your ass” sound
1:43 - This IMO is the best red-alert of all ST incarnations.
That's the Apollo spacecraft's Master Alarm sound.
it’s nice, i wouldn’t mind a mix of the classic siren followed by that
Always hated that ‘whoop whoop’ red alert klaxon. Prefer the later ones. Also loved the way Kirk shouted ‘report’ on the B bridge despite not being in command!
I’ve already been nostalgic for the first Red Alert klaxon made.
Never knew there was a Double Red Alert at some point
That animated series was way underrated.
I just got the complete series on Blu-ray.
it’s a shame it didn’t last longer but the cast was expensive to continue to use
Lower Decks? or TOS animated?
Nobody does Red Alert like Riker.
I was thinking the same thing! He does it so well.
When this sounds at work, it's never a good thing! Haha
"OH GOD ITS LIKE RED ALERT EVERYWHERE BUT HERE!"
😂😂😂
A lot of people hate the 1979 TMP red alert, but for some reason, it's always been one of my favorites. I was really disappointed when it was changed in 2001 to be more consistent with the TOS klaxon. I understand the motive for it, yet still didn't like the change.
I wonder why the film directors felt compelled to change what is probably the most iconic alert klaxon in human civilization
"ITS....The Captains....chair!!"
Best was Red Alert from ST:TWOK
Agreed, also liked the ship screen showing each deck going to condition red.
Raise Shields, arm Quantum Torpedoes
"All decks go to red alert... Because we can't do that from the bridge. Thank you for your assistance."
Is this what happened when all the previous Star Trek series saw Discovery for the first time?
A distinct possibility.
Red alarm! Red alarm!
I'll never understand why they decided to go with "1990s Kitchen Phone Ringer" for the sound effect in Star Trek: Generations.
I really liked the red alert sound in the theatrical version of TMP. Was always annoyed that they changed it for a sound that just doesn't fit as well to me, especially when the others still use the original sound.
"Powering up phaser banks and photon systems"
Turning on the lights won't be any help, Mr. Tuvok.
Classic and Iconic.
Step up to Red Alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.
2:20 It puzzles me, why put the ship on red alert when there is no crew aboard. Force of habit I guess.
My guess would be that activating red alert brings key ship systems to a higher state of readiness.
@@JohnDiMarco mostly it transfers energy from non-essential systems into the Weapons and shields (Main reason that lighting is down on most floors, is that that energy is refunelled
@@FlaschenJoe11 exactly, labs are shuttered, non-essential personnel go to secure locations, turbolisfts go offline. Enterprise added “the weapons are already online, it must be the new protocols”
The TNG Technical Manual contains some information about red alert for Galaxy class.
15.6 RED ALERT
This condition is invoked during actual states of emergency in which the vehicle or crew are endangered, immediately impending emergencies, or combat situations.
Durinn Red Alert situations, crew and attached personnel
from all three duty shifts are informed via alarm klaxons and
annunciator lights. Key second shift personnel are ordered to
report immediately to their primary duty stations, while other
second shift personnel report to their secondary duty stations.
Key third shift personnel (who are presumably on their sleep
cycle) are ordered to report to their secondary duty stations (or
special assignment stations) in fifteen minutes. Specific
systems preparations include:
• Level 4 automatic diagnostic series run on all ship's
primary and tactical systems at five-minute intervals. Bridge
given immediate notification of any significant change in
ship's readiness status.
• If presently off-line, warp power core to be brought to full
operating condition and maintained at 75% power output.
Level 3 diagnostics conducted on warp propulsion systems at
initiation of Red Alert status, Level 4 series repeated at fiveminute intervals.
• Main impulse propulsion system is brought to full
operating condition. All operational backup reactor units are
brought to hot standby. In actual or potential combat situations, Saucer Module impulse propulsion system is brought
to full operating status.
• All tactical and long-range sensor arrays are brought to
full operational status. Secondary mission use of sensor
elements is discontinued, except with approval of Ops.
• Deflector systems are automatically brought to tactical
configuration unless specifically overridden by the Tactical
Officer. All available secondary and backup deflector generators are brought to hot standby.
• Phaser banks are energized to full standby. Power
conduits are enabled, targeting scanners are activated. Level
3 diagnostics are performed to confirm operational status.
• Photon torpedo launchers are brought to full standby.
One torpedo device in each launcher is energized to full
launch readiness and primed with a standard antimatter
charge of 1.5 kg.
• The Battle Bridge is brought to full standby status and
backup bridge crews are notified for possible duty in the event
of possible Saucer sep maneuvers.
• All three shuttlebays are brought to launch readiness.
Two shuttlecraft are brought to launch minus thirty seconds'
readiness.
• Onboard sensors record the location of all personnel
and alert Security of any anomalous activity. Location and
activity information is recorded for postmission analysis.
• Level 4 automated diagnostics are performed to verify
readiness of autonomous survival and recovery vehicle systems (lifeboats). Readiness of ejection initiator servos is
verified through a partial Level 3 semiautomated check.
Security officers are assigned to insure that all passageways
to lifeboat accesses are clear.
• Isolation doors and forcefields are automatically closed
between sections to contain the effects of possible emergencies, including fire and decompression of habitable volume.
Red Alert situations, by their very nature, frequently
involve unforeseeable variables and unpredictable circumstances. For this reason, Red Alert (even more than other
operating states) requires the Commanding Officer and all
personnel to remain flexible. All Red Alert operating rules,
therefore, are subject to adaptation based on specific situations.
Red Alert can be invoked by the Commanding Officer,
Operations Manager, Chief Engineer, or the Tactical Officer.
Additionally, the main computer can automatically invoke Red
Alert status in some cases upon detection of certain types of
unknown spacecraft, as well as upon detection of certain
types of critical malfunctions or system failures. In such
cases, the automatic declaration of Red Alert status is subject
to review by the Commanding Officer.
Thank you for this! I needed a laugh at work after a tense meeting where the staff asked, shall we call a red alert?
the sound of Kirks ship "$hit'n + git'n" reminds me of cars,,,,doing the same.AWSOME!
Couldn't help but notice that there's no red alert from "Discovery." I know they mostly did "Black Alerts," but I think they did at least one Red Alert...
And they got rid of the "Black Alert" voice after a while. Which is the only thing I didn't mind. OTOH, how can you have a "black alert"? All others, including Voyager's blue alert are accompanied by corresponding light colors. How can you light up something black? You can't, so pick anything else. "black alert" sounds cool, but would only really make sense for a cloaking device or ships otherwise going dark.
No Discovery? Strange...
One time at work, I’m in the dairy refrigerators restocking and one jugged slipped out of my hands, I assumed it was going to crack or leak, so I said “Red Alert we got a coolant” or something to that extent and then realized how silly it was. But no one heard it, I tended to be by myself. Just like when some of the vegetables end up like something from “attack of the killer tomatoes”, but it’s never the tomatoes.
"RED ALERT!!! ALL HANDS TO BATTLE STATIONS!!! CAPT. KIRK, CAPT. PICARD, CAPT. SISKO AND CAPT. JANEWAY TO THE BRIDGE!!!"
That would be a mess all around .... Hilarious but a mess all the same .
KIRK: RA .... Lets see how they react , maybe I can still get lucky .
PICARD: RA .... Lets try talking one more time .
SISKO: RA .... We really should expand RA to include Launch Torpedoes in that protocol .
JANEWAY: RA ..... If a threat didnt work we can always gaslight the records so it all looks like it is their fault .
ARCHER: RA ..... Dont you mean REED ALERT ?
I am not familiar enough with anything after Enterprise to sum up what would have come next .
I've often wondered why they turn down the lights in the ship when they go to red alert.
"RED ALERT ALL HANDS TO BATTLESTATIONS"!
its been so long since i last watched TOS, why is spock rooting through kirks dresser while he calls for red alert
Spock is trying to find a phaser set to overload somewhere in the room.
If you listen to what Kirk is saying, he says there's a phaser set to overload in his cabin as the reason for the red alert. Spock is logically hunting for the phaser, and is doing so frantically given the lack of time to do so systematically.
3:52- ...Uh...YES, Captain? ...You want me to do anything, sir? ...Hello?!
5:48- ...Uh, Geordi, the "Riker Maneuver" is the way he sits down in a chair.
No one ever includes the movies! The ST: Beyond red alert is my favorite!
You mean the Kelvin Timeline movies. He included all the prime timeline films ;)
If only I could find a clean sound clip of the Generations Ent-D red alert, would make a nice ringtone.
I wish there was a good, clean loop of the Deep Space 9 and Defiant red alert klaxons, but sadly all I've seen for them is a single low-quality beep.
Shame you did not include Q‘s appearence on Voyager. „Hi I‘m Q“ and Janeway goes „Red Alert!!“
I Love the Reed alert 😂😂😂😂
It's funny, but the generic siren of TOS and TNG is probably the most realistic depiction of Red Alert for a space navy. Loud and jarring so the crew knows to rush to battle stations, but shuts off after a while to not distract the crew during the emergency. The tone blaring every time the light came on from Generations onward is a bit too much (although I suppose for a TV show or movie is does add something).
3:20 An active display switching to the (admittedly excellent) alert display while Scotty is reading is insane though.
Enterprise E/Voyager is my favorite with Generations Enterprise D a close second.
Damn it! Still trying to get that for a ring tone! Everything in my life is "Battle Stations"! 😉😆
Amazing. It's more well known as "General Quarters" then the other stuff.
Double red alert!

10:04 is the true end of this video.
This sounds like the SOS alarm.

I think the Red Alert from Yesterday's Enterprise was the best. Too bad it wasn't shown here.
