    excited to watch your verrucosum keep growing! A challenge I've been having with mine is that it constantly produces extrafloral nectaries, even though there aren't any pests (I treat it regularly with doktor doom, and there is no pest damage). I find that wherever the extrafloral nectary droplets are, the leaf gets slightly discoloured if I dont clean them off :/ and those dots then look like pest damage even though its not hahah

      EFNs are the worst and as silly/dramatic as it may sound it's actually starting to lessen my absolute love of philodendrons. So many of mine are doing this, my gloriosum, verrucosum, my silver sword. I will clean and wipe them off and I swear the next day they're back. And like you said they end up making the plant look like it has pests even when you're sure they don't 😭 It's so frustrating!

    I've been neglecting my first successful houseplant and watching this to give me courage 😂 it's just a golden pothos but I've had it for so long that the original bits look like crap and all the new growth from where I've cut looks amazing and varigated. So I'm just gonna say screw it and chop it up. I didn't know much about plants when I first got it so it's so random and leggy and in way too big of a pot. I have multiple cuttings off this plant that look so much better and are way bigger. Anyway thanks so much for the inspo/confidence 🌷💫💓 you inspired me to finally make my own moss poles and I repotted one of my monsteras with it and it's giving me a new leaf already. I'm so excited. I want to try to put my pothos up a moss pole with these chopped bits. I don't even care if pothos is basic, I just love how fast and easy it grows and I want to see how huge I can get it now that I know more about plants in general, thanks to sweet folks like you!!! 🪴🌟🌈

    That damage you where talking about in the beginning, like the damaged unfurling leafs could just be the adjustment to lower humidity, bc it looks very similar to how my adensonii leafs where when they got too close to the radiator lol, but better safe than sorry 🙃

    Fern that definitely looks like Thrip damage. I've been dealing with them for the past 6 months or so, and have really empathized with your struggle with them. I was so upset when I got them as I thoroughly clean, spray preventatives, and quarantine new plants for 4-6 weeks before adding them to my collection. All my plants seemed fine, until they weren't. I've tried organic sprays, no neem oil as it irritates my lungs, harsher pesticides, nothing seems to work. Captain Jack's seems to slow them down but even regularly spraying it for weeks to kill off any new larvae didn't seem to work. I ultimately went with beneficial insects. A couple months ago I got an order of Green Lacewing larvae who went to town destroying Thrips and Fungus Gnats. I immediately saw less Thrips and Gnats. The Lacewings matured and I had some adults flying around my room but I don't think I had enough to breed and produce a bunch more. A couple weeks ago I got an order of Lacewing eggs and adult Minute Pirate Beetles. The nice thing about the beetles is they're fully grown and will fly to new plants to eat pest bugs, Lacewing larvae don't fly so they can't move very far from the plant they're on. I've seen a huge decline in pests since this past order. I'm seeing no damage on new leaves on my plants. My Philodendron Burle Marx finally put out a normal leaf with no damage, my Queen Anthurium put out a new leaf, and there's a bunch of others that are putting out nice, healthy growth. The Pirate Beetles live for a while and will breed readily with decent humidity and warmth but I do plan to place another order in 2-3 weeks. They're the only thing I've found to help, like I've witnessed them on my plants with Thrip larvae, adults, and fungus gnats in their proboscis that they were eating. And they're SO tiny, like an adult Pirate Beetle is like 1/4 the size a grain of rice. They're so small that if one accidentally lands on you, you don't even feel them on you. Its SO nice. I know this video isn't new so Idk if you'll see this comment, but you should definitely looking into beneficial predatory insects!!!

  • @AG-de9il
    @AG-de9il Před 2 lety +1

    Something I noticed is when you put a plant from moss into soil, it needs to be watered a bit more frequently. Potting it with a plant already existing in soil may cause overwatering for that second plant, and at least in my experience, root rot. I would be careful, maybe you have a better technique for getting recently moss-grown plants into soil with other plants though!
