    Here's the absolute hope that Bungie, and specially Joe, stays communicative and even a stronger wish for the community to keep it together and be respectful with them. I love dialogue between developers and the community as it benefits both parties when the playerbase is satisfied and the developers are able to provide.
    As a former Warframe player, I loved when one of the developers (Steve, who is no longer working in developing Warframe) would just go on to stream the game and even do some live developing of prototypes, just throwing ideas for everyone to see.
    Overall, this response just scratchs the terrible itch that SotG left (or soothes the pain rather), and even if it is obvious, we need to walk into the showcase next week with hope but not hype, have tempered expectations, but still expectations about what Bungie can surprise us next with.

    • @cheezusthegrate669
      @cheezusthegrate669 Před rokem +7

      Dialogue between developer and community is fantastic, but if the community is spewing hateful things - things bad enough to make the team worried for their safety - then no dialogue is the best option for the devs. Every time, full stop. There is absolutely no reason for people to react the way I've seen some people react in regards to games, destiny and otherwise

    • @dhuntermg
      @dhuntermg Před rokem +3

      @@cheezusthegrate669 I agree. Some people really take videogame passion to an unhealthy level. That, or they are just mentally unstable. Hope is that Bungie not only makes the necessary preparations to keep themselves save, but to have the mindset that black sheeps don't paint the entire community. On our end, we must do better as a community ourselves, since it is sad to see Bungie employees get the amount of ire and hate they do. There are always ways to communicate, and spewing hatred ain't one of them.

      I'm sorry but you went from Warframe to this? God no. It's clear Bungie were never interested in making a good game since even before the first Destiny came out and they have consistently failed to meet the standards they themselves have set.

    • @dhuntermg
      @dhuntermg Před rokem +4

      @@OryxAU I didn't elaborate, since it wasn't relevant to the context. I played D1 before I played Warframe (TTK PS3), and at the time I was playing Warframe it was during a period when I didn't have D1 for my PS4 (aka having to buy it again). Eventually the grind in Warframe got too much for me and I stopped playing, but that's a me issue (I played for like 2 years, 2016 to 2018). I also prefer FPS to TPS, and again, that is a "me" thing. Warframe is still a game I would encourage people to at least give it a go.
      To say that Bungie was never interested in making a good game, however, is false. You can argue that they say they don't want to overdeliver based on their GDC talk, but I figure it would have been easier to put D2 on life support and make a D3, a game I would just outright not even bother with since I hate "wipeouts".
      Even if they are pouring all their resources into Marathon (and whatever other IP they're working), Marathon will not get nearly enough as much players as D2 based solely on the type of game it is, and they (must) know that. If they truly weren't interested in making a good game, why bother trying to improve on it? Why not leave it to rot?

    What I think feels weird to me, is I didn't even feel like Joe necessarily said anything new or different from what was in the state of the game as much as he just clarified on the points that were made with some additional context. (Which I mean more context is always a nice thing to have.)
    But then the weird part to me is the staggering difference in the community reception to this versus the State of the Game, but I guess it's just like you already said that "How" you say and present something is just as important as "What" you say.

    I'm sorry, this is classic corporate gaslighting, and all the streamers seem to have swallowed it. Yes, the communication has been sub-par, and I have no time for any online abuse aimed at Bungie employees. BUT, the average player has a very different view of the 'state of the game' and somehow that reality has been lost in this latest broadcast message
    This is what I feel is the 'state of the game':
    1. There's been little to no investment in the core playlist - strikes, PvP, gambit. Players are disengaged and bored
    2. The game is unstable. Every season launch is bug-ridden, and server stability is unacceptable for a game that is the mature phase of its product lifecycle
    3. The narrative arc is a mess; even the lore streamers can't make it hang together and this season has been a low point. It's hidden in an obscure mission that most people will have missed and it makes no sense
    4. The overwhelming chat I hear is that we're being milked - pay to win is here, we're being double and triple dipped with all the cool cosmetics being locked in the store.
    5. Bungie has moved on. It's not investing in Destiny 2 anymore. The resources have shifted to Marathon. How can you create a 'strike team' to do work that's supposed to be part of the core?

    The "issues" that are holding these modes out of the playlist are, according to them, stuff like "We didn't record mode-specific VO with Shaxx," not "the gameplay isn't good." So like... very, very bad reason to just hold modes back for months or years. As you say, more or less, I expect nothing until we get an actual delivery. We have been seeing a "renewed focus on PVP" since Forsaken.
    Bungie comms are ALWAYS long on self-congratulation and flexibly worded future promises - sometimes the congratulations are deserved and the promises are followed up on, other times it's that State of the Game. But they've long since lost any chance of me (and I think most of the community) just taking them at their word when it comes to this stuff. I'm sure the showcase will get me hype for Final Shape and I never had any intention of not playing that much anyway, but when that's over I hope they are prepared for just how many people they stand to lose if all they can deliver is more of the same.

    We've been here before, now I'm just tired, I expected it not because it was needed but more because of the timing, he stated at the start nothing about the state of the game will be addressed in the showcase, which to be fair is what I'd expect, it's a showcase of the Final Shape and what it will contain, but the timing gives it all an air of "we know your pissed and here's what we're going to do about it, please pre-order the Final Shape...".
    All the changes he talked about are similar to what we've heard before, the map pack sounds good because we've had a drought of maps coming into the game, we don't need map packs we just need more than one map once a year, Disjunction is a Frankenstein's monster of a map, it's design by committee and it shows. The armour situation is understandable but I still don't see why they can make bangers for raids, dungeons, and eververse, but making one decent set for free is too hard. The strike teams for content is annoying, if the game was supported properly we wouldn't need them, they are what should be expected not a carrot when things are bad, smoke and mirrors and it's an insult to our intelligence, it shouldn't be a thing if they supported the game like they should, we are paying customers, Destiny is not F2P, it's free to try, you want the latest greatest you have to pay, and it isn't cheap, to say nothing of paid content being pulled from the game. All in all I just see it as a stop gap short term band aid to try and limit pre-order sales damage, cynical yes, but Bungie's record in the past is what made me this way when it comes to them making promises. Justin Truman's GDC 2022 presentation has aged like milk in the desert, and so it should've, a fucking embarrassment by any metric.
    Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. It's all so familiar it's a joke now, except it's not funny. Sad thing is after the showcase everyone will be pissing their pants and will pre-order the expansion like none of this ever happened and guess what, we'll be back here again, I know it, you all should know it, and Bungie sure as fuck knows it. As a group gamers are the dumbest cunts on the planet we are on the level of plant life, flat earthers point at us and laugh that's how fucking gullible we are, what's worse is we allowed it to become like this even worse still some of us act as apologists for the way it is.

    I would just like to make a quick point on the "online harrassment" of the devs or anyone else online. I did a fair amount of research on this topic a few years back mainly on doxing and online harrasssment (threats and written abusive language). Doxing seems to have a very high correlation to the rest of it. The idea being once u give out someones personal information, people are much more likely to use that information to harass someone than if they had never gotten the information. Pretty self explanitory there. Doxing is a big bad for sure. But doxing takes up a very VERY small proportion of the online harassment reported in the overall sphere of activity. The rest of it has very little correlation between someone making a threat online and an actual crime being committed... almost so little correlation that u can barely connect the 2. One reason for this is that most people who are wanting to commit a crime against a person... very rarely announce it online before hand. Then when you try and find causation, u really run into trouble... like maybe the people were going to commit a crime against them anyway and the online part was just a kind of warning more than a step on the path. It gets hard to say. It def does happen in certain situations. Most commonly with stalking and things like that, especially when people already know each other in real life. But in these cases the online abuse is just one more form that the perpetrator can use. Certainly not the most concerning. From what i could tell, most of the online harassement is not necessarily a non-issue, but in many cases, i believe we just haven't adapted to the technology so it feels alot more real than it is and perception becomes reality. Throughout human history, if u had 1000 people outside of ur house yelling at you, u had a real reason to be concerned and it would weigh heavily upon u. Now adays, 1000 people online feels the same as if they are standing right outside...our nervous system seems to process it the same... but they arent outside of ur house. We just need time and information to kind of clear the air with all of this. Anyways, of course, no one should harass anyone online, but i believe sunlight is the best disinfectant, so use this information how u will.

    Really honestly praying Joe can have a good time streaming next season. Honestly sounds really entertaining to see a high up Dev play the game especially if he decides to do some harder content 😊 personally Ik I’ll catch the first stream and wish him good luck

    The last time they made a strike force for destiny 2 was inbetween curse of Osiris and Warmind and I can not understate how much that changed the game, so this seems to be very good news for PvP players but as always recently, we will have to see it to believe it I guess.

    they should make buffs all have a little icon that’s made clear in the item description then use them to shove more info into a small place on the side of the screen

    One thing I'm wondering is where exactly is this PVP "Strike Team" coming from. Are they devs from another team or were they working on something like Marathon before that? If the latter turns out to be true that would be very telling.

    This is literally just a PR campaign. It's nothing more than damage control the week before the reveal for Final Shape. Bungie has spent enough time talking. They don't deserve any praise until they actually do something.

    I'm glad Joe Bungie himself came out to talk to us and it felt genuine but it's really hard to just be happy when it feels like it's always this big down and a little bit of up. Bungo has been a few patches away from making crucible competitive and fun for years and they always introduce an artifact mod or a weapon that on paper and in the live game will OBVIOUSLY break PvP, nerf an exotic that wasn't even an issue, or make a change that seems like it wasn't playtested or anyone looking at the change can tell it isn't gonna really move the needle on whatever problems it was supposed to solve. I'm not gonna sit here and say I don't have fun playing Destiny anymore because if I didn't I wouldn't still be playing and commenting on destiny stuff but I will say I'm apathetic to most of the announcements now because of the way things have been carried. I'm not going to be excited for final shape or any of the announcements for it, I'll play the game casually as I want to, and I'm going to watch and wait to see what Bungie does but I've said it a thousand times at this point: Destiny's feel is something that can't be replaced so there will never truly be a destiny killer. With that being said; How they managed to fumble the bag on satisfying the pvp community after making one of the most successful competitive and party shooters is beyond me. "Classic" Halo solved matchmaking, community contributions and cooperation, good pvp maps, and a solid but unique and fun sandbox and the community was so dedicated they kept the Halo 2 servers going for as long as they could the day they were supposed to go offline. All of that produced a loyal and passionate fanbase so the whole population problems probably wouldn't be an issue if Bungie full on gave the core playlists the love they deserve. If this is supposed to be your core gameplay, people should want to play it, not feel forced to. I
    will continue to die on this hill. Bungie also said it themselves; there's no point in advertising the seasons before the day they drop because people have already bought them so they already know they'll make bank so what's the harm and loss in supporting the main content (that is permanently in the game) that people are supposed to play? You know why people buy DLCs and 20$ eververse ornaments? To take that power crept gear and drip into pvp, raids & dungeons, and nightfalls so put some genuine elbow grease into your main content and I can almost guarantee that population problem will disappear. I mean come on people give 343 shit for all the scummy things they do but even after a dumpster fire release MCC is still doing numbers because: it's battle pass system is ahead of it's time, the cosmetics aren't predatory (and they're optional to view in multiplayer), the matchmaking somehow improved on classic halo's, and even years later it's still fun to just play through the campaigns with friends. How destiny struggles in some areas baffles me, considering it's still bungie and it's being made in a modified version of the very same engine they used to make the games that built the loyal and passionate pvp community in the first place.

    It was a large part of why communication died down? *checks brain from playing destiny since it came out.
    Nope. That’s never really been the case. They only have ever really communicated in a static fashion, usually after they shit the bed.
    George Orwell would be amused by this doublethink.
