  • 'How to' instructional video on installing the brand new LUX Angel Eye LED bulbs. These are the H8 189 variety and I HIGHLY recommend them! The old halogen bulbs dated the car quite a bit, these make the car feel much more modern.
    Install is on my RHD BMW E82 135i N54. It will be a similar install for E88 and possibly the other 1 series E81 & E82. 3 Series (E92) may need to look at a specialised video.

      I’ve had to since replace my regular headlight bulbs (unrelated) and would now say I’m a pro at removing and reattaching the back of the headlights. It’s a b*tch but if you guide the “teeth” into the holes by cupping the housing and using your fingertips to feel where they need to go - that’s the easiest way. That’s probably super hard to understand but if you give it a go, keep that in mind 🤣

    FYI, for anyone wondering why the high beam "inner ring" is brighter than the driving beam "outer ring"...
    The inner ring is illuminated directly by the H8, while the outer ring is fed light indirectly through a fibre optic (effectively, the ends of the ring act as a light conduit).
    There's no real way, without some kind of shielding, to even them out.
    It's just a product of the design.

    I have a manual N55 LCI, blue with brown leather, no sunroof, no iDrive. Got abot two dozen videos in my watchlist to get through for making the lights white on these cars. Will be doing this after deciding on what to order. That ballast thing looks huge. I'm fine with the round angel eyes, not trying to mimmick the aggressive looking new style, these will become very desirable just like the E92 M3s because they dont make em like this anymore. My E82 N55 sounds worlds better than any of the new BMWs. Driver focused machines with minimum restrictions, tech gimmicks, opf filters etc.

    • @ElliottBrooks
      @ElliottBrooks  Před 3 lety

      Nice one. The LCI headlights are super nice. I would upgrade if I could. Changing the angel eye bulbs has a big impact in my opinion! I’ll get aftermarket add ons later down the track, as it’s my preference - but I agree with all of you’re statements - lots of package in these cars! Enjoy and hopefully my videos are a help :)

    Does your car already have xeons? Did you replace the low beams with LED and you didn’t need anything else?
    I reckon invest in a good torch so we can see what you do better.
    Are you going to do a manual swap?
    Adding a android is a pretty great idea.

    • @ElliottBrooks
      @ElliottBrooks  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah I’ve improved my lighting in the later videos and will be moving towards better lit areas for the future. My car came with xenons. I didn’t replace anything to do with the headlights themselves. Just the LED that powers the angel eye. No manual swap. Android will happen. I’m going to be editing my lights again for more of an M2 style look in the next month or so - subscribe and keep track if you haven’t already!

    Hoping someone can help regarding LUX angel eyes, purchased LUX H8 189 angel eyes for my BMW 2010 E82 135i.
    I installed one of the lights and tested to verify it is working, however I noticed flickering problems.
    When the lights automatically shut off they flicker off, it is not a smooth transition, is this normal?
    More worrying, while the lights are fully turned on there is a subtle but noticeable flicker.
    Could this be that at time of testing I only had one light swapped over to the LUX? Or defective unit?
    Thanks

    • @ElliottBrooks
      @ElliottBrooks  Před rokem

      Can’t say I noticed any flickering. Is this with your eyes or on a camera? They’re independent of each other so shouldn’t have any codependency. I would reach out to where you purchased them and discuss your options

      @richardd-nz Před rokem

      Hi @@ElliottBrooks- Thanks for your fast reply! Yea the flickering is noticeable just from looking at it, I do understand that on camera it will flicker due to the nature of LEDs. Thanks for confirming the units are independent - that rules that one out. I have messaged the seller so hopefully can be resolved. By the way, I managed to get the headlight housing unit off without removing the brake? canisters, it can be done with smallish hands and a bit of patience lol.

    I’ve had trouble with LED angle eyes. The way the halo rings distribute light, the inner rings get ok light, i.e. bright enough to see in the day but not as bright as halogen. The problem is that the outer rings get no light and appear out. I have a hard times trusting pics because all the LED options I’ve tried showed up fine on camera but were completely different in real-life. These lights are super expensive and I’d hate to end up with a great representation on video but terrible in reality like every other option. I could really use the opinion of someone who has compared these LEDs to the stock bulbs insofar as how bright they compare and especially how well the outer ring lights up. Like everything else I’ve seen, these look great on videos but how accurate is that to real-life? Thank you.

    • @ElliottBrooks
      @ElliottBrooks  Před 3 lety +1

      This is a very fair comment. The first thing to note is that it’s not the bulbs that cause this problem. It’s the design. If you look at my recent custom angel eye video, I’ve upgraded my lights again - mostly because of the design flaw of the stock lights. Besides completely upgrading them, the LUX bulbs and the brightest you can get. I was thrilled compared to stock, but they’re still not 100% perfect.

    • @demakins
      @demakins Před 3 lety

      @@ElliottBrooks Thanks for your reply. Yes, it’s the distribution of the light into those little slots that will best distribute the light into that outer ring. Some orient the LEDs better and may therefore have a better result which is what I think you’re talking about with respect to the design. It is a design flaw and not a problem with the bulb.

    • @ElliottBrooks
      @ElliottBrooks  Před 3 lety

      Yes, exactly! Due to the design, it doesn’t matter what bulb you have or what orientation you fix, it will always have limited results. But for an upgrade over stock, it’s well worth it

      you need a bulb that is short, if you use regular H8 bulb that will happen, inner ring will light up but the outer will not
